How did you meet your husband or partner?

I’m in my mid-twenties and I am single and ready to find my future partner or husband. However, I work in a small team so there’s no chance of finding my future husband at work. I don’t think online dating is for me either, and this really limits my options.

I’m wondering how you’ve all met your husbands or partners, because I could do with some inspiration. I would love to hear stories especially if you didn’t meet at uni, work, or online dating.

If you have ideas for how I can meet men, with a view to romance, then please let me know!

At a medical conference in Houston. I arrived late, so took a seat near the door and not with my colleagues.
If it hadn't been for a hole in my tights and me running back to my hotel next door to get changed, I wouldn't have met him and my children wouldn't be here.

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar...
(Well, a grotty city centre pub.)

There was a power cut in his building at University so he fell on the mercy of his ex to print an essay. She was my housemate, and later a guest at our wedding.

At work. I liked the look of him, so left my phone number on his windscreen.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/03/2022 20:09

He sat in my seat in the pub. So I sat on his lap. We were engaged 5 months later. 23 years ago 🥰

One night stand in a nightclub with my line manager leading to friendship then a relationship.

Probably not the best inspiration! We were both students and it was our part time job.

AHungryCaterpillar · 28/03/2022 20:10

When I was young I use to meet men out and about all the time, even walking down the street, now I’m fat and older I don’t 😂

I employed his best mate and got to know him by proxy. Managed to find some daft excuse to get his number so asked him out. That was 14 years ago. Been married for 7 with a beautiful (and somewhat miraculous) 4 year old DD.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/03/2022 20:12

We were set up by my friend and her boyfriend (he was DH's best mate).
We've been married over 25 years.

SmellyOldOwls · 28/03/2022 20:13

Went to the pub with my mates and one of them bumped into her cousin and brought him to say hello, 12 years later the cousin and I have two kids.

I have met almost all of my partners through my male friend from school. Either in his band or a friend of his, or at events he has hosted, he is my accidental match maker it seems!

Watercoloursky · 28/03/2022 20:14

Am-dram! Though I only joined that particular group because a friend from uni (who I hadn't seen for years) messaged out of the blue to say they were staging a show we'd done together back at uni and needed more altos for the chorus... no reason why our paths would have crossed otherwise, I guess I owe that friend a lot!

totallybonafido · 28/03/2022 20:15

We were neighbours when we were teaching English abroad

Cinders15 · 28/03/2022 20:16

I went on an HNC course for local govt - one day a week for a year
We got pissed together st Christmas party and he was one of 5 who crashed at my house

cruelladepoppins · 28/03/2022 20:18

Through a hobby - playing in an amateur orchestra.

At work, initially I worked at a different depot and didn't know him he just admired me from afar. Then I moved to his depot and I definitely was interested to know who he was.
It took to me leaving though and him finding out he wouldn't see me again to tell me how he felt.

5 years and a baby later I couldn't be grateful for the chance conversation I had telling him I wouldn't see him again after his holiday as I would be there anymore.

MrsGHarrison87 · 28/03/2022 20:19

Plenty of Fish. Yes there's loads of strange people online but I think it's worth persevering if you're serious about meeting someone and don't have much opportunity in real life to meet single men.

RiverRats · 28/03/2022 20:21

At a festival, I’d just finished high school, he was a year older and I ended up spending the rest of the summer with him and then we moved in together when I stated college. Looking back now we were insane, I don’t know how my DM didn’t have a heart attack.

roxifoxy · 28/03/2022 20:21

Met mine at work 😃
I liked what I saw and made sure I "bumped" into him again 😂 he then added me on Facebook and it all started from there 😂

Palavah · 28/03/2022 20:22

Through a shared hobby. Didn't fancy him at all at first, he started going out with someone else for a bit, they broke up, we spent more time together as friends, then got together

PuffinMcStuffin · 28/03/2022 20:22

One night stand, 22 years and still going strong

MsChatterbox · 28/03/2022 20:23

At an athletics group. You could also try church if your beliefs align. The men in my church are a lot more eager for marriage than the men I know outside of it!
