How did you meet your husband or partner?

I’m in my mid-twenties and I am single and ready to find my future partner or husband. However, I work in a small team so there’s no chance of finding my future husband at work. I don’t think online dating is for me either, and this really limits my options.

I’m wondering how you’ve all met your husbands or partners, because I could do with some inspiration. I would love to hear stories especially if you didn’t meet at uni, work, or online dating.

If you have ideas for how I can meet men, with a view to romance, then please let me know!

@Bumpsadaisie

Online dating in 2002, long long long before such a thing was in any way normal or acceptable 🤣🤣🤣

Been together 20 years, married for 16.

OMG in ancient.

Lol, I met mine through an advert in a magazine, long before computers and online dating! Been married nearly 27 years.

@gingerhills - I did. My first husband died, and 8 years later I met his brother for the first time ...... got to admit, it's a bit much, but as I say I never actually met his brother (lived up in the wilds somewhere) until he came to his parents for Christmas.
@FlipFlops4Me that's what I'm wondering too, did you marry your husbands brother? Nothing wrong with that, but how had you not meet him?

My DH offered me a job driving farm machinery in the back arse of no where in Australia! Pure co-incidence we even meet. That was 10 years ago, expecting our first baby this summer :)
Never met him because he and my first husband couldn't be in the same room without almost coming to blows (entirely first husband's fault). After first husband died, his brother still didn't visit as it was a long way to come and he was a workaholic then.

I met mine through work.

I know you're reluctant to try online dating, but have you thought more about using say, Match.com as opposed to Tinder?

on a beach. we just stared at each other, and... Grin

Not the most romantic story but I met my OH the day before we went into lockdown on Tinder. I was just looking for a laugh and people to chat to whilst being stuck home alone for who knows how long.
We ended up FaceTiming every single night for 8 weeks before deciding to meet in person. He felt safe and like a best friend because all we had been able to do was talk for so long.

2 years later we have a gorgeous baby boy and couldn’t be happier ☺️

I think for me OP is definitely have more confidence in talking to people when out and about - easier said than done.

I once got asked out as I was lost and got chatting to a guy working in a cafe, I decided to order a coffee there as I had time but asked him for directions and we ended up chatting and he then asked me out (was a lot younger!). I’d also say if you’re with friends and you notice someone has noticed you then try to speak to them. Years ago I was working and had lunch most days at a Thai cafe where one particular man went a lot and apparently stared at me but I was always with a work colleague. One day when friend went to toilet I plucked up courage to speak to him and bam got talking and then he asked me out. He told me he was shy/intimidated of approaching me whilst my work colleague was with me!

@poppymaewrite

Thank you all for your stories. Some of them made ne giggle! I think I need to join groups that fit in with my hobbies and interests and be more confident about chatting to men.
You are mid 20s. You need to go and have some fun and worry about setting down later.

Travel, take up some new hobbies or sports, build your career, get some more qualifications, volunteer, move abroad.

You are much more likely to meet an interesting and compatible man when you are busy leading your own best life.

At the gym, lounging in the spa pool. Asked me to Xmas party there. Married 2 years later.
