How did you meet your husband or partner?

I’m in my mid-twenties and I am single and ready to find my future partner or husband. However, I work in a small team so there’s no chance of finding my future husband at work. I don’t think online dating is for me either, and this really limits my options.

I’m wondering how you’ve all met your husbands or partners, because I could do with some inspiration. I would love to hear stories especially if you didn’t meet at uni, work, or online dating.

If you have ideas for how I can meet men, with a view to romance, then please let me know!

shitfaced in a nightclub. It was magical Blush

WomblingWilma · 29/03/2022 15:37

Eyes met across the dance floor of a smoky nightclub. Had a few drunken dances. Wrote my number in lipstick on the back of a fag packet. Almost 30 years later, the rest is history!

DD met her soon to be DH in a pub but was able to put his number in her phone Grin.

I picked him up at a party at a friend's house while on holiday, one night stand in a hotel Blush . He got in touch a few months later when he happened to be passing through the UK for work and asked if we could meet up. Met in a pub, went back to mine and he never left. Married 17 years.

PS my message for OP would be always go to every event you are invited to...I had not even felt like going to the party as it was New Year's Day lunch and I had a terrible hangover. But I have always had that motto myself, and I was 40 and in the middle of a divorce, so...

Worldgonecrazy · 29/03/2022 15:47

We stood next to each other at a concert, and both just happened to be on our own that night. If my friend hadn’t gone home poorly we would not have met. There were a lot of coincidences about how we met so sometimes I think you just have to trust fate.

Chattydoll · 29/03/2022 15:47

We met through mutual friends at a BBQ

Hayisforhorse · 29/03/2022 15:58

DH - we met and got together when we were random flatmates.

Previous LT boyfriends, whilst at uni it was usually via a shared interest such as in an amateur music group, or sports group, or volunteer group. Met one in a shop, but I knew of him already because we were in a sports group.

Won a competition.

At sixth form, we've been together just over 20 years.

He hit me in the head with a frisbee. Not on purpose, mind.

I seem to have form for this kind of thing, though –the last long-term relationship I had before this one, we met when he tripped over me in a bookshop (I was crouched down reading and he was walking backwards).

Perhaps you could try just sticking your foot out on a busy pavement and see who falls down? Grin

In a club ....

Bluebluemoon · 29/03/2022 16:06

In a Nightclub. He asked me for a cigarette...
He doesn't smoke!

(and neither do I nowadays - this was obviously donkeys years ago when you could still smoke in pubs! 😳)

theDudesmummy · 29/03/2022 16:08

I did the smoke thing too! I have never smoked but when I saw DH walk in to the party and he was smoking, I bummed a fag and went over to him to ask for a light...

Turningpurple · 29/03/2022 16:08

In my best friends kitchen. I got there to pick her up for a night out. I walked in the kitchen, started talking to her.

She then said 'oh this is my brother' I turned round and he was making a brew. I said hello, we chatted for a few minutes and when he smiled I thought he was gorgeous.

We got together a few weeks later and been together since.

gingerhills · 29/03/2022 16:10

We was a very old friend of a new good friend of mine. She said: you should meet X, you'd really get on. Then she set us up and we did.

gingerhills · 29/03/2022 16:10

He was not we was.

I worked with someone who met her husband when she ran him over in her car
cptartapp · 29/03/2022 16:11

In a nightclub as students . 1992. The club has long been demolished. He still has the shirt he was wearing that night!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 29/03/2022 16:12

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar... (Well, a grotty city centre pub.)
This is how my parents met - my dad was a cocktail barman in the 80s a la Tom Cruise in Cocktail. He showed off to my Mum by making her a super fancy cocktail and then asking her out Grin.

DH and I met at a wine tasting. Booze seems to be a running theme in my family...

bloodywhitecat · 29/03/2022 16:13

Tinder. I had only joined a few weeks before and swiped right on his photo instead of left (he had no bio and my rule was left swipe anyone without a write up). He messaged straight away and we got chatting then met up. We were together for five and a half years and married for 8 very happy months.

fromagreatheight · 29/03/2022 16:14

@CloudPop Excellent! I'll remember that one in case things don't work out with DP Grin

kateemo · 29/03/2022 16:16

Friends holiday abroad at a music festival - friend of a friend became my boyfriend Wink. Wasn't expecting it.

TimBoothseyes · 29/03/2022 16:18

DP's parents and mine were long time friends so I first met him when I was 6 years old and his mum had just bought him home from hospital.....he was 3 weeks old.

I moved away at 18 and when I divorced and moved back we met up(he was single), 20 years later we are still together.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 29/03/2022 16:20

I met my DH at a ballroom and latin American dance class. There were more single men there than single women (although overall more women but most weren't single).
