Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Oops didnt mean to QT you JungleJimbo. I was going to reply to you but decided against it and left it in by accident Grin

JenniferWooley · 28/03/2022 19:46

Some days that would be fine for me but then other days I have a German donner kebab & half a packet of chocolate hob nobs - it's all about balance Grin

Malibuismysecrethome · 28/03/2022 19:46

DameHelena no 😂 I would need a bit of cake to go with it

ItsSnowJokes · 28/03/2022 19:47

@JungleJimbo

I would be STUFFED after that

Apple is so high in sugar, and there's a high cal dressing so would keep me going til breakfast the next day

Really can't understand how some people eat so much Shock

Its not high calorie at all! It's 150 calories it says it right on the tub.

I think you are just being tedious though, no one would say 150 calories a day is over eating and not needing anything else that day.

@crocus776

What dress size is the lady who consumed this?

@theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity

Op if you'd have asked in the real world almost everyone would have said no way is it enough. But you made the mistake of asking on MN where laydeeeez eat like sparrows and get utterly bloated on two goji berries and a thimble full of birdseed. This salad would be enough to feed their family of 8 academics for a week
Except that most people have said that it wouldn't been enough.

So your desperation to have a pop at people who eat less is a bit without evidence here.

ManateeFair · 28/03/2022 19:53

It would depend on the other meals I was having that day, really - but on a normal working day my lunch would usually be around 500 cals, so more like a fairly substantial sandwich or a chicken salad and an accompanying snack. Certainly a lot more than a green side salad anyway!

However, I couldn’t give a shit what other people eat, and I don’t get annoyed or feel judged by people who don’t eat much. If your colleague really did say “People who eat more than me are greedy” (as opposed to “I couldn’t manage more than this for lunch” or “I would feel greedy if I ate more”, which are very different) then that’s not on.

I have noticed that some people seem to feel judged by people who eat less or exercise a lot, and take their habits as some kind of personal affront. There was a woman at my old office who used to claim that some people who went for a run at lunchtime were ‘showing off’ and ‘looking down their noses at her’ when in fact they were, in fact, just going for a run and had barely registered her presence, let alone judged her exercise habits. But assuming your colleague really did openly say that people who eat more than some leaves for lunch are greedy, then YANBU to be irritated.

Concestor · 28/03/2022 19:54

I'm vegan, literally all we eat is veg, and that is pretty much one forkful of salad, not even a side portion in my eyes. I'm always astounded at how little veg omnis eat but that's an aside.
No, this is not a usual lunch for anyone unless they are dieting, feeling sick, or planning on eating a LOT for dinner. Not even my MIL would claim to be full after this, and she's got the whole eating dust thing down pat.

ThatsNotItAtAll · 28/03/2022 19:54

ItsSnowJokes I think the reply you quote is a parody of the archetypal MN competitive under eating posts. Its not serious.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 28/03/2022 19:55

Nope.

"competitive undereating' is another description of an eating disorder.

drpet49 · 28/03/2022 19:56

Wouldn’t even touch the sides

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 28/03/2022 20:00

I'll have some protein with it, as well as nuts and seeds.
I normally have big salad for brunch instead of breakfast and lunch.
So, if I had big breakfast, the bag of salad would be enough for lunch. But just veg is too boring.

SofiaSoFar · 28/03/2022 20:01

@Tillymintpolo

Needs a side of chips
And a steak.

Would be perfect then.

Femalewoman · 28/03/2022 20:01

Anyone that thinks 150 calories is 'too much' for lunch needs help.

Beautiful3 · 28/03/2022 20:02

Yes I'd eat that on a fast day. Depends what kind of eating plan they have, really. I prefer to save my calories for the evening, to eat a nice meal, and a small treat.

DoWhatYouLike · 28/03/2022 20:03

That's not enough. Where's the protein? Carbohydrates?

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/03/2022 20:04

It would be enough for me but then I do have an active eating disorder, that said I am very aware that I do not eat anywhere near enough.

Franklyfrost · 28/03/2022 20:06

If she has energy and is getting the necessary nutrients then that's enough.

MadKittenWoman · 28/03/2022 20:07

Everyone is different. I don’t eat breakfast or lunch; I just have coffee and water during the day and have a low carb dinner in the evening with lots of red wine. I rarely actually feel hungry. That would be a reasonable lunch for me. I am only 4’ 8”, but my BMI is 23.9 so I’m not skeletal and could do with losing about 3 kg. I do body pump, salsa, walking, swimming and body conditioning so I’m quite fit. And I’ve recently turned 60. But I wouldn’t advocate it for anyone else; it’s just the way I am.

Calandor · 28/03/2022 20:07

It's not very much but depends on personal body type etc. I would've eaten this when dieting but not for a regular lunch. I think 250cals minimum would be better (more sustaining). But, again some people have smaller appetites or they eat big breakfast/dinner so don't need much lunch.

Calandor · 28/03/2022 20:10

And I do mean minimum 250. 350/400 would be around the more normal zone.

canthecardsbewrong2022 · 28/03/2022 20:14

Looks nice.

...I can be really good all day until the evening!

maddy68 · 28/03/2022 20:14

That's plenty for me at lunch time tbh

lljkk · 28/03/2022 20:16

I needed 3200 cals yesterday. Salad with a lot of oily dressing might have sufficed for lunch.
