Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

I really don't understand why people are judging other people's food choices ..
surely we're all different? Different needs of nutrition ?
If I ate 3 meals a day I'd be the size of a house. Wish I was joking .. I eat 2 meals a day to maintain my weight.. if I eat 3 then one of them would be really small.

Let's not judge each other too much. I bet if you came on here to say "this person at work ate 2 cheeseburgers" then people would jump at you for judging..

I live my daily life realising that we're all different & all have to make different choices to suit us 😃

All the best x

Cuddlemuffin · 28/03/2022 20:19

Depends what else I'm eating that day. It would be fine if I'd had a full English breakfast or if I was having steak and chips for dinner. I couldn't enjoy my life having 3 meals a day that looked like this x

LottyD32 · 28/03/2022 20:21

@FabFitFifties

Were people at work making comments about her small lunch, thus prompting her comments? I can't bear people feeling the need to comment on people's food. Unless it's to say something nice. In my extremely skinny twenties, I would eat a breakfast at home, another cooked one, in the canteen at work, then a rather large curry and chips, with a pot of cottage cheese on top. That lunch was a mountain and was often followed by desert 🤣People could not just mind their own business and let me enjoy it without comment. I imagine if I had not been thin and fit, but overweight, there would have been comments too. I needed those calories. I eat far less now but I am much heavier, because I am far less active. I imagine if people are commenting on her lack of calories it will be equally annoying. Actually, I'm annoyed I've commented now so I'm going 😅
No,no comments, she started with them, saying she's glad she's not a glutton that eats meal deals.

That's why she's a size 6 then. People think it's fair game to comment when a super slim person eats.

She probably was full.

Kitfish · 28/03/2022 20:23

I have a gastric band. That would be enough for me for lunch. Does it occur to you that the person you are criticising may also have a gastic band? Not everyone is the same as you.

I drink 3 litres of water a day.
I've cut out processed food.
I've cut out takeaways.
I've cut out alcohol.
I don't eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or sugar.

I’m wondering whether the apple doesn’t fall far from the cart?

Anonykunt · 28/03/2022 20:26

If I've had a big breakfast or questionable mid morning snack, then maybe. Add some tuna and or some boiled eggs to that and it might suffice. I can get away with relatively little during the day. It's dinner I look forward to and I do like to eat crap on the sofa at night (really must change that soon) If I didn't skimp on food a bit during the day I'd probably be overweight because of my gluttonous evenings. I still have a stone of baby weight to lose. I wonder why Cake

LottyD32 · 28/03/2022 20:28

@theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity

Op if you'd have asked in the real world almost everyone would have said no way is it enough. But you made the mistake of asking on MN where laydeeeez eat like sparrows and get utterly bloated on two goji berries and a thimble full of birdseed. This salad would be enough to feed their family of 8 academics for a week

For me, I could eat this and only this.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 28/03/2022 20:44

Some people eat too much and are happy with that.
Some people eat too much and are unhappy with it but unable to change atm.
Some people eat too much to an extent that it threatens their health and life.
Some people eat a healthy amount and are (most probably) happy with that
Some people do not eat enough and are happy with that and feel in control
Some people do not eat enough and are unhappy with it, but are not able to control it atm.
Some people do not eat enough to the extent that it threatens their health and life.

I can see no way in which women commenting on any of these people is helpful or useful.

And for many of these people, judgey comments or even the knowledge (due to threads like this) that people think and make judgey comments, actually contribute to unhealthy eating (of whatever kind).

The OP of this thread had already made up her mind.

The salad eater n question might well have an eating disorder - so what role does a board full of MNers making 'witty' comments about surviving on thimblefuls of berries make any contribution to the understanding of eating disorders or those who suffer them?

Why don't we all just shut up about what other people eat?

I have homemade soup for lunch, chicken or beef and loads of veg, turmeric etc.

Spanish tortilla for breakfast (cauliflower instead of potato) or Greek yoghurt and a banana.

I'm having lasagne (leek instead of pasta sheets, cream cheese instead of bechamel) and salad, or fajita chicken (no wraps) and salad for dinners this week (I meal prep on Sundays).

Nuts, cheese, deli meat or pork scratchings as snacks.

I'm not a calorie avoider, just a carb dodger now, and I eat decent portions.

ImWearingReallyJudgyPants · 28/03/2022 21:16

These threads don't just bring out the competitive under-eaters, but also the competitive I'm-so-normal-eaters ("ooh, look how cool I am about what I eat! I don't care about calories! I'm so special!") who desperately try to trump one another with their "that salad would be fine with a steak/a quiche/a Big Mac/an entire cow/four chocolate cakes" comments.

Very few people on here have a healthy attitude towards food.

NdefH81 · 28/03/2022 21:17

So you brought in home made soup for lunch

She had a salad

Shrug

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2022 21:17

What’s wrong with salad and quiche for lunch? That’s a pretty normal thing to have

NdefH81 · 28/03/2022 21:20

Would you have even been able to eat this salad on your diet? Given you’ve cut out all processed foods and there’s dressing, which will be processed

LottyD32 · 28/03/2022 21:35

@NdefH81

No I'd aim to make my own salad, I'm trying to cut out buying food out, and only eating homemade wherever possible.

Obviously there will be times where I have to buy stuff but I'm aiming for the majority of time to eat my own food. And have a rare takeaway or meal out for special occasions.

It's not good to set health plans with no flexibility at all.

OP posts:
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 28/03/2022 21:36

I'm doing major calorie restriction ATM so this would be suitable for lunch for me BUT I like to save as many calories for a decent tea.

I have always worked in hospitality most of my teen and adult like and I was sort of 'trained' to only eat one big meal a day. I valued my sleep more than breakfast dinner so would just drink plenty of hot tea and coffee then have a huge late dinner.

Anyways, at the moment i could have this if I had of had breakfast. If I hadn't id need at least another 100 calories

NdefH81 · 28/03/2022 21:40

it’s not good to have set health plan
Agreed but then…
* I don't eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or sugar.**
So you sure as heck wouldn’t even glance at the sandwich meal deal let alone have a nibble!

KateTheEighth · 28/03/2022 22:00

@EndaDay

It's absolutely fine for lunch. No wonder there is an obesity problem in this country.

If you have a breakfast of 2 slices of buttered toast, an egg and a slice of melon-that's about 400-450 calories.

A banana mid morning-100 calories

that salad for lunch-150 calories

a digestive biscuit mid afternoon-100 calories

that's 800 cals, not including milk or sugar if you take them in drinks. If you do, it could bring it up to 1000.

An evening meal and glass of wine-about 700 calories.

You're getting up to about 1800 calories-ample.

Lol - on your food diary it's your third "meal" of the day (out of 6)

SanFranBear · 28/03/2022 22:01

Just to be pedantic, it's 150cal per 100g and its a whopping 176g, so is actually 264 calories... not that it would be enough for me either but is more substantial than quoted.

And agree, Coriander is devil's food Envy

SanFranBear · 28/03/2022 22:05

Wait... no it isn't so no it doesn't!

I stand by my coriander comment though Grin

I often skip lunch so yes for me it would be fine but then I try to have breakfast eg scrambled eggs and toast and cook proper evening meals, I'm trying to stick to 1600 calories a day
