Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

@ApolloandDaphne

It would be perfect. Just add quiche and a bit of coleslaw!
And new potatoes or chips.
Makeitsoso · 28/03/2022 18:59

No

speakout · 28/03/2022 18:59

Why are you so invested?
Is this a famly member?

NumberTheory · 28/03/2022 18:59

This would suit me most days if I'd had breakfast (or, more likely, a bunch of biscuits with a latte earlier). It would be too little on other days.

She's wrong to make comments about other people's appetites, but an assumption that it's competitive undereating isn't justified, either.

Mellowyellow222 · 28/03/2022 19:01

@JungleJimbo

I would be STUFFED after that

Apple is so high in sugar, and there's a high cal dressing so would keep me going til breakfast the next day

Really can't understand how some people eat so much Shock

How many calories do you eat a day? A 150 calorie lunch isn’t a lot at all and an adult shouldn’t be stuffed after 150 calories for a main meal.

Also please don’t make disparaging comments about people eating more than 150 calories for lunch. It’s a really unhealthy attitude and you are reinforcing the misconceptions of people with eating disorders.

WonderfulYou · 28/03/2022 19:04

If this had some sort of protein like meat, fish or eggs then that’s similar to what I regularly eat for lunch.
I also don’t eat breakfast.
Not everyone has big appetites.
I’m a size 14.

iloveeverykindofcat · 28/03/2022 19:06

I absolutely hate this assumption that having an 'attitude' or making 'comments' about what people eat is an indication of an eating disorder. I've had anorexia since I was 13 with periods of remission and I have never in my life commented on another person's food or drawn attention to what I was eating. The thought makes me cringe, to be honest. Actual real-life anorexia is nothing like people think it is. I'm anorexic because I'm autistic with extremely messed-up sensory inputs. I don't even own a full-length mirror.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 28/03/2022 19:06

If I had had a substantial (i.e sustaining - it wouldn't need to be a fried breakfast, for example) breakfast, and was planning on eating out that night then yes I might well just eat that for lunch.

You can't look at one meal and make judgements about people's eating.

And I wonder what was said to her for her to reply implying that more was greedy? A judgey comment, perhaps?

LOL

Yeah all right Fatso

gunnersgold · 28/03/2022 19:07

Would be fine for me , I'm amazed when people eat a lot and don't get fat . I have to watch what I eat so carefully!

FernGilly · 28/03/2022 19:07

Hopefully JungleJimbo is joking?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 28/03/2022 19:07

Anyone who expresses those kind of judgey public opinions about other people's meal deals for lunch has disordered eating, and quite possibly an eating disorder. Leave them to it and avoid being around them at mealtimes.

NearlyHeadlessNick · 28/03/2022 19:07

The salad would go lovely at the side of my sandwich, or the side of cheese and crackers, plus fruit...

cakewench · 28/03/2022 19:08

Needs a pack of their grilled prawns or chicken breast and it would be perfect for lunch.

I eat a lot of salads as meals but they almost always have some protein and/or more substantial veg (raw broccoli, peppers etc) not just leaves.

And, coriander Envy (not envy!)

merryhouse · 28/03/2022 19:10

I normally have undressed salad (just the veg) for lunch

but I have a decent breakfast (two if I have an exercise class) some fruit in the afternoon and a substantial dinner

MrsGHarrison87 · 28/03/2022 19:11

No it's nowhere near enough calories. Ideal for me for lunch is around 400 and that's for weight loss.

JudgeJ · 28/03/2022 19:12

This would suit me on a fasting day but I would explain why and complain I was hungry afterwards

Why would you feel the need to explain to some random person who comments on your meal?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 28/03/2022 19:12

@JungleJimbo is clearly joking (and very accurately satirising certain orthorexic attitudes often seen on MN).

Coriander, one step down from sucking a sweaty sock!
WetLookKnitwear · 28/03/2022 19:18

I wouldn’t mind that for lunch as long as I had a hot drink but I do stuff myself at breakfast.

The person was just trying to wind you up.

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 28/03/2022 19:19

Of course it is!

That would feed a family of 4, with enough left over to make smoothies for breakfast the next day.....Smile

TabithaHazel · 28/03/2022 19:22

I've had one of these for lunch before and I am definitely not a competitive under-eater! My work canteen does a great fried breakfast, so I usually have something like that salad for lunch and eat the main meal in the evening.

Geranium1984 · 28/03/2022 19:23

I'm early pregnancy and currently having 2 lunches a day. Pret sandwich/baguette or something similar at about 11.30am then a pot of goyza & noodles from itsu at about 2pm.
I eat plenty of fruit, yoghurt etc. throughout the day and make my own lunch(es) when I work from home.

Hankunamatata · 28/03/2022 19:24

Each to their own. If you have a small appetite hen perhaps it would fill you.

TabithaHazel · 28/03/2022 19:24

How do you know so much about this person by the way - you say they don't have big breakfasts or are doing 5:2, do you live with them/are related to them and if not why do you care?
