Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

A small m&s side salad.

I saw someone have this and this alone for their lunch, and imply anything more is greedy.

I suspect competitive undereating*, but do you think this is tiny/normal/lots? I'd be bloody starving 5 minutes later 😂

*Unfortunately I've worked with a few of these in the past and just roll my eyes.

Would you find this sufficient for lunch?

@RJnomore1

150calories

That’s eating disorder material

Benefit of doubt - could be on a 5/2 fast day?

No 5:2 or fasting.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 28/03/2022 17:22

No I'd be starving, and I love salad.

LottyD32 · 28/03/2022 17:22

@ApolloandDaphne

It would be perfect. Just add quiche and a bit of coleslaw!
Exactly, I'd consider this a side.

No, that's basically leaves Grin
It would be ok with a chicken breast or prawns or feta but I would want more salad with it
I often have a bag of salad with tomatoes, cucumber etc and feta for lunch

HorribleHerstory · 28/03/2022 17:24

I often eat those m and s salads for lunch. I also often eat nothing for lunch - and I never eat breakfast. I’m certainly not a competitive undereater nor do I have an eating disorder. I’m just busy, rarely hungry at the start of the day, and I prefer eating a nice big meal in the evening, relaxing with pudding and maybe wine. I’ve never been on a diet. But I do like m and s salads and they are easy to grab.

Sofasogood1 · 28/03/2022 17:25

I've had weight loss surgery and it wouldn't be enough. Would need protein with it

SAB10 · 28/03/2022 17:27

I am a pretty light eater at lunch and carbs make me sluggish but no, that wouldn't be nearly enough to keep me going. Other than the edemame beans there's no protein which is the key thing for me - I'd have that with something like a little pack of cooked chicken or ham, or those packs of two boiled eggs or something.

LottyD32 · 28/03/2022 17:27

I love m&s salads, but the main ones, or the side ones as a side with something else.

The 'greedy' implication was people that have meal deals i.e. sandwich, crisps or chocolate and drink are greedy.

The package says it constitutes 8% of daily calories intake for a reference person. Even if the reference person is an active male, and the lunching person would be sedentary female, still it would be very small proportion of healthy daily food income, so it suggest a massive breakfast, very regular snacks or unusual metabolism/illness.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/03/2022 17:29

I've had bariatric surgery and I eat less than 1100 calories a day because my stomach is 70% smaller

That is lunch for me with 2 EGGS

So no, normal people eat far more than that for lunch

She's clearly got issues Hmm

LizzieSiddal · 28/03/2022 17:29

No, but it would be lovely to go between two slices of wholemeal bread with some cheese.

Fernandina · 28/03/2022 17:33

It's very rude for them to say anything about other people's meal choices and imply they are greedy.

They might be thin, but they are also bad mannered.

Octomore · 28/03/2022 17:33

It might possibly be ok, depending on what I'd had for breakfast, or what I was planning for dinner on that specific day.

But 150 calories is not much at all, and most days I would have a larger lunch than that (e.g. that salad, plus some tuna with dressing, maybe on some crispbread).

deadlanguage · 28/03/2022 17:33

That salad is lovely, I've had it for lunch myself before but would normally get some falafel or a samosa to go with it.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/03/2022 17:34

@PeskyRooks

It looks delicious and would be plenty for me....if it was under a burger in a bun
with chips
Seemssounfair · 28/03/2022 17:35

She maybe has an XL cod supper with a side of pizza every night?

AffIt · 28/03/2022 17:37

It depends: I only eat once or twice a day (this is NOT competitive undereating, BTW: I'm a perfectly happy and well-rounded 175cm 73 kg), but that's just the way I eat and always have done. I wouldn't think to mention what I'm eating or why.

If somebody is doing the 'OMG, my lunch is only 150kcal and made of leaves', then yes, I'd find it weird.

Howmanysleepsnow · 28/03/2022 17:38

I don’t eat breakfast, and I could eat that for lunch and not be hungry again until dinner. But then, my appetite doesn’t kick in till later on, anything I eat before 4 I’m basically eating because I want to eat it rather than because I’m hungry….

HorribleHerstory · 28/03/2022 17:38

If the person eating it was being rude about others eating habits how is this thread any better?

I often eat those for lunch. I consider it a good day when I do as it means I’ve had time to stop for lunch and I’ve had something whereas often I get nothing.

Yes they are enough for me. I take them out for lunch on actual hikes when I’m expanding lots of energy. Yes I am a normal person. I love food, cooking and eating it. Eating during the day is just not high on my radar.

MyBottleOfRibena · 28/03/2022 17:40

@JungleJimbo

I would be STUFFED after that

Apple is so high in sugar, and there's a high cal dressing so would keep me going til breakfast the next day

Really can't understand how some people eat so much Shock

Give over
Howareyouflower · 28/03/2022 17:41

I hate this sort of thing, making people feel guilty for eating normally. I was with a workmate once, driving about 150 miles, and I said "I know a lovely little cafe in the next town. We can stop for lunch". She said "I'll just have a cup of tea, I'm still full from breakfast" When I asked her if her husband had cooked for her, she said no, she'd had her usual breakfast at 6.30am, half a slice of toast with no butter and a scraping of low sugar jam.

Dillydollydingdong · 28/03/2022 17:41

Have a M&S poached salmon sandwich with it, and it would be fine.

AffIt · 28/03/2022 17:46

My appetite doesn’t kick in till later on, anything I eat before 4 I’m basically eating because I want to eat it rather than because I’m hungry…

Eating during the day is just not high on my radar.

Yes to both of the above points.

I eat when I'm hungry. Goddamit, I will consume ALL of the calories then, but I don't see why I have to eat at set times if I don't want to eat?

MoonSpoonSoon · 28/03/2022 17:47

They are having a laugh. I'm a size 6, 7 stone with an underweight BMI. I have a really small appetite and always have. I wouldn't even bother buying this salad as it's not got enough bulk to it, need proteins and grains to fill me up!

ArtVandalay · 28/03/2022 17:48

I would eat that for lunch. I tend to eat about 200 cals at lunchtime. I know that would be minimal for many though.
