Slightly over invested in this?
@BadDayForMe any update?

OP posts:
IEatChocolateForBreakfast · 28/03/2022 13:38

I did think the whole time that the story could be an incredible tv drama or movie. I'm thinking something along the lines of Dr Foster style. I miss that show...

watcherintherye · 28/03/2022 13:42

Thought it was slightly odd that she was either fb friends with the other guy’s wife so could see the photo……but said she wasn’t friends with her so couldn’t ask where her dh was.

I thought it was the profile pic? I’m not FB friends with anyone, but can see any number of pics and posts.

AlternativePerspective · 28/03/2022 13:47

Well there’s one bit at least which was true. She didn’t know how find my worked, because if she had she would have known that in order to see where her dh was she would have had to request to see his location and he would have had to confirm.

You don’t just get to track someone’s phone

Or that this other mans wife has such an open fb account that random strangers can see photos of her in bed. I think 99.9% of people have fb set to friends only.
She said it was the profile picture I'm pretty sure

Your facebook experience is very different to mine, I've seen loads of profiles with public information. I use marketplace a lot and always check out the profile of the person I'm interacting with.

I don't have an iphone - do you have to get confirmation every time you use it or just on the initial set up? I've seen threads on here about parents tracking thier children, how does that work then? Why doesn't the child refuse to confirm the tracking (obvs teens not primary age children)
HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 28/03/2022 13:50

@MangosteenSoda

Aww shit. I’m sitting in Costa at Bristol Intl arrivals looking out for returning 40 somethings with suspiciously clean golf clubs.

What a waste of a day.

This made me laugh Grin

If it was all made up, it was a jolly good yarn and I'm sure it could be made into a 4 part drama, I'd watch it.

watcherintherye · 28/03/2022 13:52

I haven't seen all of this posters thread. So I have no idea. But either way some tact and general niceness when dealing with these posts would be great. Mumsnet have always been clear. If you have doubts just report and they'll investigate.

I don’t disagree with you, and I’m sorry you’ve had people go after you for a genuine thread, but in this case I think it was quite the opposite. Many people were very invested in the thread, and I don’t recall there being much, if any, overt troll hunting. The thread got to 1000 posts, so full, before it was taken down, so I don’t know if someone reported it retrospectively or very close to it filling up?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 28/03/2022 13:56

@orangeisthenewpuce

Bloody good story. Could be a channel 5 drama series
After enduring "The Holiday" a screen adaptation couldn't really be any worse.

In fact I am often disappointed if I go looking for someone and their profile is locked down so I can’t see what they’re up to. Grin.

Why doesn't the child refuse to confirm the tracking (obvs teens not primary age children) presumably it’s just something agreed between the parents and the children, or if younger teens then it’s a condition of paying for the account.

You can confirm tracking forever, for a day or an hour iirc.

Also, her AirPods would have been on a seperate tab, so you have find my devices, and then find people. So she wouldn’t have been just looking for her AirPods and happened to notice he was there, she would have known he was on her people tab. Otherwise she wouldn’t have known to look.

Lambanddog · 28/03/2022 14:02

I was thinking the DH's friend's wife would be a key character too. Who DID take the photo of her in bed with the kids if her husband was supposedly in Portugal Spain the Iberian Peninsula with the OP's DH. Is she a femme fatale with a secret lover? I'm thinking second wife/former OW, played by Lily James. Maybe the murder could be of the golfing friend's first wife, a shadowy Rebecca-like figure, and it turns out James Nesbitt was more involved with her than we thought...

No, OP's DH is having the affair with golfing friend's wife. He knew golfing friend was also having an affair and not going to be in Portugal so planted his phone on golfing friend in case OP became suspicious and tried to track him. He knows he may be caught but it mustn't be known who is affair partner is because she is his bosses sister.

She said that her husband had set it up (presumably when she first got the phone) so he could have agreed permissions while doing that. This is exactly what my DP did (with my full knowledge) when he set up my most recent phone (I'm perfectly capable of doing it but can't be arsed and he enjoys it the weirdo). If I open my FindMy app it's either on the Person tab - in which case I can see my son and DP with a short written description of where they are and I can click to see the map - or the Devices tab which lists all of my, my son's and DP's devices. Again, it has a short description of where they are and I would certainly be clicking on DP's iPhone tab if it said Spain!

My Facebook account is fully private, people can't even friend request me, but my (current) profile and cover photos are visible. There is (or at least always used to be) a further step which meant people couldn't even search you.

It all seemed very dramatic but none of it was necessarily so far fetched as to be completely unbelievable (although that's exactly what a clever troll would do)

jeremyjamjam · 28/03/2022 14:09

Bloody hell was it a troll?? So much time wasted!!!!

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 28/03/2022 14:16

I reported it as a possible fabricated narrative at 11.55am yesterday, and asked MNHQ to take a look behind the scenes. MNHQ replied at 3.30pm with "We've had a look and can't find anything to suggest the OP may not be genuine but we are keeping an eye on the thread. Do let us know if you spot anything concerning."

So something subsequently transpired behind the scenes, and TSSDNCOP.

I think MNHQ are best placed to judge tbh.

All time spent on MN is time wasted. If you can't make your peace with that then I'd find another form of entertainment.

Checking back in for updates...... not what I was hoping for!

Well, at least you got a nice Costa out of it, albeit at airport prices!

So something subsequently transpired behind the scenes, and TSSDNCOP. So something subsequently transpired behind the scenes, and TSSDNCOP. often it’s a case of sockpuppets who comment on the thread, and at some point hq can see the clash between the OP and the sockpuppet who is also the OP.

PAFMO · 28/03/2022 14:31

I think another interesting point was the sheer number of Very Arsey Posters popping in to shout and stomp their feet and speak on behalf of the OP. All writing in a very similar style and all namechangers. The reason the OP wasn't replying was less that her mam had come over and more that she was finding it hard to keep up with all the socking.

I’ve no idea how to set up Find My iPhone either yet I can see all my family member’s phones and earbuds? I’m not sure how DS1 seems to have DS2’s earbuds (and vice versa) but hey ho.

a majority but nowhere near 99%. It's not unusual to find an open account.
HJ40 · 28/03/2022 14:53

Troll or not, I don't know why people find some details so implausible.

Vernon Kay's iPad ring any bells?

I think I spend too much time on MN, but that’s a whole new level! I should think the op was glad when the thread filled up, what with all the posting, name-changing, socking posts. Sounds like a full-time job!

Actually I’ve just checked in my ‘watching’ (not over-invested at all, no) and the original thread is still there in its entirety, so can’t have been taken down?
