Interesting perspective re Belarus.

Just checking in to say that I hope that things don't turn out to be quite as bleak as feared. I agree that things in Mariupol look absolutely horrific and the talk of gulags and the like almost unbearable.

But we don't know what will happen next, we can only hope that things will eventually get better.

Just a feeling, I'm probably wrong. But it sounds like Lukashenko is hanging on by a thread. If I was going to launch a coup, doing it as troops are withdrawn seems as good a time as any.

Is RTB referring to the 2am GMT deadline Russia has demanded from Zelenksyy in Mariupol?

I don't have a good feeling about that either

It's not that Red is not allowed to be worried, it's that she tends to post a very cryptic post about something BAD about to happen. These cryptic posts are very different from her usual posting style and that's what gets people's backs up. Then again, it's their own fault for putting her on a pedestal and hanging by her every word.

If you are paying attention it is hardly cryptic. She has posted quotes regarding the situation in Mariupol through the last ten pages, and then she states that she is very worried what tomorrow will bring. Makes sense to me, I too am very worried what tomorrow will bring for those in Mariupol, and for the rest of Ukraine that we are not hearing about. Things are getting even more desperate. There is no hidden message here.

I understood exactly what red meant about tomorrow being bleak, and more bleak at that, than so far this month. Rational says it’ll be Mariupol that’s the big escalation is going to hit. Followed by look they chose to stay, we warned, we tried to “rescue” them propaganda. It’s an escalation and we are all going to wake up to it.

Are people seriously saying they didn’t understand the threat to Mariupol meant something was going to kick off over our night?

Agree with @BobbieMeserole. RTB posted pages of information and all of it is concerning, so I understand where her last posts were coming from.

As a whole I find her contributions to be more helpful than any of the snide remarks whenever RTB seems to have a wobble or expresses worry/anxiety.

I Also find rtb posts more useful than the posters who post only to stir up the panic among the anxious people. Or post about nato might go in again to stir up panic. There’s a definite pattern.

I saw a lot of videos circulating with Ukrainians taping (it looks like tape or cling film) people to posts and torturing them. The captions were that these were Russian speaking Ukrainians being tortured by Ukrainian ultranationalists and this is not new behaviour.

Has anyone else watched these videos or knows if these videos are real or staged?

Yes I also saw these videos. I've no idea if they're real or staged. Or rather, no idea what the identities were of the people involved. A native speaker could perhaps shed some light.

It's not black and White as too NATO going in though is it? Poland etc are talking about going in.

I don’t think Boris will go (in reply to the report in the DM about him going). I think it’s to make him look good but it will be said security chiefs couldn’t allow it/couldn’t make it safe enough. Besides what happens if something happens to Boris during the visit?! Surely that would be an escalation. I can only imagine him bumbling around a war zone acting like he’s Churchill and it’s making me cringe. How would it help anyone?!

I wonder what costume he would wear this time?

I've seen a couple of images of men taped to lampposts. Vigilantes dealing with looters in the early days of the war, apparently. IIRC, most Ukrainians are Russian-speaking Ukrainians. The Klitschkos are Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Imagine the English surrounding Cardiff with tanks because we want to liberate English-speaking Welsh people from oppressive dual-signage.

Yeah it’s very grey. And each day brings new news for us, new decisions we may or may not hear about by our militaries and governments, and new horrors for the Ukrainian people who are either stuck in Ukraine or watching from safer places knowing their families are still there.

Only 1/10th of the population has made it to other safe countries not including those that have been taken to Russia.

Swearing at posters is so rude and uncivilised- 'fuck off, 'I'm pissed off'- why are you? you can see how disagreements start with humans, civility makes the world turn peacefully without it we have nothing.

Ah yes the age old 'gotcha', 'you won't agree with me/do what I want, so you are uncivilized, a nazi etc' Aren't we seeing this same shite on a grander scale right now.

Please (how's that for civilized) can the thread get back on track and posters stop taking swipes at other posters who are taking time to share information they have come across. Everyone should know by now that all information posted is mostly speculation/opinion, so accepted it as that and filter it appropriately. No need to devalue posters.

I don't know about all the clips, but I know some of the ones of people clingfilmed to poles were looters, some of the pictures of that from two weeks ago had pieces of paper attached to them that said "мародер" marauder/looter

There's videos circulating now of men and women being publicly tortured. A native speaker could perhaps identify the identities of those involved by dialect, accent etc and certainly the truth of some of the claims being made.
