Mumsnet buzzwords you can’t stand *light hearted*

There are a few for me that set my teeth on edge.

‘Pop’ - my number one. My mortal enemy of MN words. Just ‘pop’ a plaster on it. I might ‘pop’ some money into a savings account. Why don’t you ‘pop’ to the GP for your Diet Coke addiction. No idea why it sets me off in such a way.

‘Flourish’ - enough said

There must be more of you out there. Are there any words you can’t stand that are MN buzzwords?

Again just to stress this is light hearted and I do not hold personal grudges against users that use these words 🤣

Big girl pants

NightmareSlashDelightful · 19/03/2022 14:38

Well personally I can’t stand ‘lighthearted’

It sounds so… 1950s.

RealRaymondReddington · 19/03/2022 14:39

Naice

cheeseybeans19 · 19/03/2022 14:40

Fucking naice 🤬 sets my teeth on edge!

Wavypurple · 19/03/2022 14:41

@NightmareSlashDelightful

Hahaha yes fair comment on the ‘light hearted ’ 😂 if you think of a better alternative let me know.

Hope you didn’t take this post to ‘heart’ 😉

Are you on glue - makes me mad!!

TooGood2BeFalse · 19/03/2022 19:47

'Ducks in a row'

Fuck off with the ducks,seriously.

Nnique · 19/03/2022 19:50

light hearted Wink

howardmoonseyebrow · 19/03/2022 19:52

‘How odd’ said in a very sneery manner , saw it twice in one thread today 🤦🏻‍♀️

PeopleBeCrazy · 19/03/2022 19:53

Unhinged. Literally never heard in real life but used frequently here

Squiff70 · 19/03/2022 19:53

'Naice' - WTF?

Argument with DH? LTB. Dodgy text from him? LTB. He dared go out with friends as a one-off and got a bit drunk? LTB. He forgot to feed the goldfish? LTB. Doesn't anybody believe in fighting for marriages any more?

FannylovesDick · 19/03/2022 19:56

Dementia.

Mentioned every time someone is talking about a complete arsehole. No, they do not have dementia, they really are just a complete arsehole.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2022 19:56

Don't think I have seen 'flourish' or 'pop' used as buzz words on here, unless I am on the wrong threads. Hear 'pop' in RL quite a lot.

'Get your ducks in a row' the same-I've not seen it but it always gets a mention on these threads, I do have Relationships hidden so I'm guessing it's a prelude to LTB?

'You do you' wins my prize for pointless statement though. Grin

CecilyTheWake · 19/03/2022 19:56

‘Grim’
‘Vile’
‘Picky bits’
‘Hubby’
‘Gifts’

Nnique · 19/03/2022 19:59

What on earth is wrong with ‘flourish’? And in what context is it used as a buzz word?

Clevs · 19/03/2022 20:00

I can't stand all the abbreviations when referring to other people... DP DH DD DSC DFIL DF DM DSis, DDog etc. Just write the bloody word, it's just as quick. It ruins my train of thought when reading a post as I have to stop and think about what it should say. Especially if there's a couple of options that it could be, for example DF could mean father or friend.

PierresPotato · 19/03/2022 20:01

gently

I've no idea either but think maybe in relation to schooling? Seems like a fairly ok word to me unless i am missing something?
bumblenbean · 19/03/2022 20:02

I’ve said it before but it really annoys me when someone says ‘ignore all these posts OP’ - it’s so dismissive and arrogant. As if they’re some kind of oracle and all other posts can be safely ignored, sometimes when people have spent a long time writing a reply Hmm

Vitnery · 19/03/2022 20:03

Buzzword
Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/03/2022 20:04

Oh , my teeth gnashing phrase would be I cannot get worked up about this

In my head I think it should mean "I'm such a lazy fucker that I cannot expend the energy"
But I see it as "I am so obviously superior to you that this trifle doesn't even cause a blip on my radar "

And the overuse of "Super"

I;m super excited
I;m super careful
That is super delicious

Super does not equal Very /Extra/Really

KitKattaktik · 19/03/2022 20:04

Are you on glue? said by no one ever in RL.

Head tilt and Tinkly little laugh you would just look as if you'd lost the plot!

take in ironing Hmm

A&E NOW Hmm

Log it with 101 yes of course they'll keep a record of the fact that your neighbour has windchimes in his garden! Hmm

LadyIckenham · 19/03/2022 20:04

Wow. Just wow.

Drives me mad, I tell you.

zen1 · 19/03/2022 20:05

‘in tears’. Lots of people seem upset over fairly minor occurrences or things which don’t personally affect them.

Agree with ‘pop’.
