Mumsnet buzzwords you can’t stand *light hearted*

There are a few for me that set my teeth on edge.

‘Pop’ - my number one. My mortal enemy of MN words. Just ‘pop’ a plaster on it. I might ‘pop’ some money into a savings account. Why don’t you ‘pop’ to the GP for your Diet Coke addiction. No idea why it sets me off in such a way.

‘Flourish’ - enough said

There must be more of you out there. Are there any words you can’t stand that are MN buzzwords?

Again just to stress this is light hearted and I do not hold personal grudges against users that use these words 🤣

‘Set my teeth on edge’

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/03/2022 20:07

Any kind of pop-psychology, especially ‘narc’ or those ways of defining oneself in relationships (anxious attachment, avoidant attachment) - WTAF?

EventuallyDelighted · 19/03/2022 20:07

Pop is just a normal everyday word, as are grim and vile.

I hate picky tea and dippy eggs but not sure if they are specific to MN.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2022 20:09

It's not enough to be just 'in tears' you have to be 'crying and shaking'.

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2022 20:09

'boundaries', bloody 'boundaries'. I know you need them, but some posts, Christ, 'work on your boundaries, op'. And 'red flag!!' and all the toe-curling varieties like 'more red flags than a Communist Party parade'. And 'shit-hot lawyer' and 'get your ducks in a row' without any further explanation. Such bloody clichés.
I also agree with a pp on 'ignore other posters saying...'. So presumptuous.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2022 20:10

I'm not sure any of these are unique to MN. My friend loves to say things are 'grim'.

Just been reading a thread about Covid and remembered another one - ‘ripped through’. So sick of Covid ripping through…

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 19/03/2022 20:12

Cluster feeding. Sets my fucking teeth on edge!!

CeliaCanth · 19/03/2022 20:13

Sanpro

Downton57 · 19/03/2022 20:15

'tearing someone a new one' or variations on that theme. Repulsive.

Bytrgrewd · 19/03/2022 20:15

@PeopleBeCrazy

Unhinged. Literally never heard in real life but used frequently here
My dh uses “hinged” to mean the same and that really annoys me !
FayKnights · 19/03/2022 20:16

When someone is telling a story and they say ‘I was with a friend, let’s call her Jane and her husband, let’s call him Dave’ just say a bloody name or use something similar if it’s so unusual it’s outing Angry

LadyCatStark · 19/03/2022 20:17

“Wow. Just wow. It must be so nice to experience such privilege.”

Said about anything that’s better than bread and dripping for dinner.

“Reader, I married him.”

“I’m crying and shaking.”

“I literally spat my tea into my keyboard.”

No you didn’t…

Karwomannghia · 19/03/2022 20:18

I’m sick of all these people dying on hills who aren’t at all.
The it’s vulva not vagina police are tedious as well.

LookingGlassMilk · 19/03/2022 20:19

"I mean this in the nicest possible way..." and then they usually go on to say something that's not very nice

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 19/03/2022 20:21

Tinkly laugh

You sound nice

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 19/03/2022 20:24

Hubby
Picky bits (also, picky tea)
Myself (‘attending were myself, DH and the DC’ - WRONG)
‘Sit them down and …’
‘Wow… just wow…’
‘But that’s just me’

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 19/03/2022 20:45

'Pop', definitely, because it's so often used by a poster outlining their amazingly efficient problem-free life while addressing an OP desperately looking for help.

I just pop a casserole in the oven and while that's bubbling away I pop on a load of washing and ask the DC to pop upstairs to tidy their rooms so that I can pop the kettle on in case my lovely friend pops in for a cuppa and a catch-up [continues ad nauseam]

TwoAndCooPlease · 19/03/2022 21:09

Unreasonable. When it's not even a aibu
I catch myself saying it all the time now!

TooGood2BeFalse · 19/03/2022 21:13

Haha so true

'fast forward 2 weeks, low & behold'

Fizbosshoes · 19/03/2022 21:29

To be fair I've not actually seen it used on MN, but I hate the word nourish particularly if used with regard to well being!
