Mumsnet buzzwords you can’t stand *light hearted*

There are a few for me that set my teeth on edge.

‘Pop’ - my number one. My mortal enemy of MN words. Just ‘pop’ a plaster on it. I might ‘pop’ some money into a savings account. Why don’t you ‘pop’ to the GP for your Diet Coke addiction. No idea why it sets me off in such a way.

‘Flourish’ - enough said

There must be more of you out there. Are there any words you can’t stand that are MN buzzwords?

Again just to stress this is light hearted and I do not hold personal grudges against users that use these words 🤣

Somebody DARES mention the word 'gender' on the pregnancy boards and people pile on saying "it's sex, not gender!". Oh do fuck off already. It's not like unborn babies can decide on their gender anyway.

Squiff70 · 19/03/2022 21:35

"I self-discharged myself". Eh?

TwoAndCooPlease · 19/03/2022 21:42

@Squiff70 Grin

Amlaughingsomuchnot · 19/03/2022 21:42

Virtue signalling…that MN expression really makes me cringe ! Never hear it IRL .

ThomasinaGallico · 19/03/2022 21:44

‘You sound like hard work’.

And I agree about the not-necessarily-MN words like ‘nourish’ and ‘succulent’ that are only found in low-rent advertising.

Wnikat · 19/03/2022 21:46

Report it

NippyNippy · 19/03/2022 21:48

Yes to 'tinkly laugh' mainly because I can't work out what makes a laugh fucking 'tinkly'.

I. Just. Don't. Get. It!

Also people writing in the above style is rage inducing.

Squiff70 · 19/03/2022 21:52

YES! Everybody is accusing everyone else of 'virtue signaling'. I've only ever seen that term on MN and it look me about two months to work out what it meant.

One man, bless him, hired a van and asked for donations of things to take to the Polish border to help out Ukrainians who were fleeing the most horrific war. Poor guy was accused of 'virtue signaling'. What were YOU doing to help Ukrainians then apart from sitting on your arse posting on MN?!

bare · 19/03/2022 21:54

'Cheeky' ways to save money..... what's 'cheeky' about saving money???

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 19/03/2022 21:54

'Hmmmmm' to start a post, like we've all been awaiting this philosophical determination to be pronounced so we can breathe easy and move on.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2022 21:56

@LadyIckenham

Wow. Just wow.

Drives me mad, I tell you.

I'm with you. Irritating.
TrickyD · 19/03/2022 21:57

Drama Llama
Narc
Fuming

SkyeT · 19/03/2022 21:58

When people quote a pp and just say: This.

Iseeall · 19/03/2022 22:05

Didn't want to read and run.

Well stick around and say something useful then.

GreenClock · 19/03/2022 22:14

“Large of nork”

EishetChayil · 19/03/2022 22:19

"Why does it bother you?"

user1471443411 · 19/03/2022 22:34

I hate the casual use of 'narc'
'ripped through' and 'dropping like flies' in relation to covid
have only ever heard 'ducks in a row' on MN, it sounds quite smug, but I don't hate it as much as some others
Don't mind 'crying and shaking' and 'Wow. Just wow' - they're quite funny
I first heard 'virtue signalling' on MN but it's used everywhere now, and yes, maybe a bit overused but it perfectly describes some modern behaviours.

KohlaParasaurus · 19/03/2022 22:36

Naice irritates me a little bit because it appears to be some sort of private Mumsnet joke and I'm not in on it.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 19/03/2022 22:39

SHL (shit hot lawyer) has started to rear its head again. It fucked off for ages; everyone was happy.

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 22:39

@KitKattaktik

Are you on glue? said by no one ever in RL.

Head tilt and Tinkly little laugh you would just look as if you'd lost the plot!

take in ironing Hmm

A&E NOW Hmm

Log it with 101 yes of course they'll keep a record of the fact that your neighbour has windchimes in his garden! Hmm

Apart from "log it", I haven't seen any of these used on Mumsnet either.
DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 22:40

'ripped through' and 'dropping like flies' in relation to covid
See also "thrown to the wolves" or "thrown under the bus", usually in relation to kids/vulnerable/teachers

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 22:42

@Squiff70

Somebody DARES mention the word 'gender' on the pregnancy boards and people pile on saying "it's sex, not gender!". Oh do fuck off already. It's not like unborn babies can decide on their gender anyway.
Same with vagina "I think you mean vulva, OP, you can't see your vagina" ha fucking ha
DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 22:43

@Easterbunnyiswindowshopping

Cluster feeding. Sets my fucking teeth on edge!!
I don't think that's a buzzword. Its just what the thing is called...
CailleachGranda · 19/03/2022 22:43

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen

Hubby Picky bits (also, picky tea) Myself (‘attending were myself, DH and the DC’ - WRONG) ‘Sit them down and …’ ‘Wow… just wow…’ ‘But that’s just me’
See, I think hubby and picky bits are rightly derided on here - so wouldn't call them Mn buzzwords. Quite the opposite

For me, it's all the kitchen verbs. Chuck, bung, throw. Kitchens must look like bomb sites

YellowLemonYellow · 19/03/2022 22:44

I hate these Hmm Confused . I feel angry when people post them after their comment
