The private jets to Dubai might just be the rich getting out after Putin's speech last night.

Agreed, I'd be doing a nervous poo of my own and running for my life in their shoes. It sounds like he's planning a purge.

He wants us to be scared, it's all part of the propaganda. We can't let him win so we need to get on with our lives whilst doing the two things that will make a difference: donating to charities helping refugees, and using less energy and fuel. We don't use much Russian gas, we use North Sea and import half from Norway, but Europe do use more and if we cut our usage, there's more Norwegian gas for them. Russia then gets less money which is helping to fund the war, they can only afford it due to gas and oil exports. Europeans were asked to turn their heating down by 1c to help reduce gas imports.

No problems with that. I've been turning it down to help my bank balance!

@hilbil21 That's my other reason too, it's very expensive now, not sure how people on the edge are going to cope with next winter's bills.

I wouldn't worry, the press conference will probably just be more reassurance that everything is OK and Sweden is prepared for anything.

I'm hoping the Swedish 'change in security situation' press conferance is to tell us we can all eat our stockpiles of tinned peaches and spam.

None of us really know what is going on, but I am beginning to think some on this thread are enjoying spreading panic. It's really not on. Stop it.

Homes of Russian activists have been graffitied with threatening messages, including the Z symbol, several people, including a well-known food blogger, have been charged under the new disinformation law, Russian state prosecutors have been told to wrap up current economic crime cases because by next month they will have to focus on 'traitors.' (I wonder if these people will have all their assets seized. Again, it could explain all those private jets buggering off to Dubai.)

In more positive news I see the basement of the theatre in Mariupol is intact and that casualties are thought to be minimal.

China and the USA are talking tomorrow about Ukraine's war. It will be interesting to see if anything changes as a result.

In the meantime, I think the sanctions are starting to hit home - they have only been in place for two weeks so the consequences on the purchasing cycle (refreshing stock, inflation etc.) are becoming more visible. Putin' s acknowledged that although we won't know the full picture for some time. I also suspect the number of dead Russian soldiers has gone up to uncomfortable levels: the US are estimating up to 7,000 dead and double that injured.

This will be about internal politics.

Re planes leaving Russia, if I was an Oligarch I’d be getting the fuck out of there too following Putin’s comments yesterday.

The Swedish military see no change in Putin's intention to take Ukraine by force and no change in the threat level to Sweden.

Why are you feeling like this? I’m not being goady, just wondering what’s causing such panic and if there is anything anyone can say to make you feel better.

Things are still shit in Ukraine but generally not much worse than they have been.

I think the people who are extremely scared on this thread would be better off just getting their news from the mainstream media? There's no mention of any of this anywhere apart from here, or if you go looking. I understand for some people being informed is how they deal with it. But there are definitely some people who I think would be better stepping completely away.
