@EsmaCannonball

RMT Union suggesting that P&O are planning to sack all UK workers on the spot. No idea if this is true or if it has any connection to Dubai/Russian ownership.
Any possibility this could be connected with Johnson's visit to UAE and possible deals made re: oil?
Rowgtfc72 · 17/03/2022 11:40

Magicfox, some have landed apparently and there's debate on whether they're picking up troops, heading to bunkers or waiting for Taiwan to do something?

ClaudineClare · 17/03/2022 11:43

I think my theory about is oil is daft, actually.

DuncinToffee · 17/03/2022 11:47
@DuncinToffee I thought that P&O was owned by DP World, the business arm for Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed. At least they certainly owned it in 2020 as it was cited in the court case between him and his wife.

This from The Telegraph dated March 2020, of course he could have sold part/all of it in the meantime:

"Through his company DP World, the Sheikh has a huge maritime presence in the UK. Last year, the firm acquired P&O Ferries for £332 million. They own and operate ports in Liverpool, Southampton and Essex, as well as the ferry lines across the Channel and across the Irish Sea."
According to Wiki, Yuvraj Narayan is Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Chief Financial Officer.

I don't know, that's why I said it might be worth keeping an eye on.

It doesn't sound good either way.

Some suggestions they are picking up weapons from China

Brave woman

A city councillor in Russia sparked outrage among colleagues after reportedly turning up to a meeting wearing a wreath of Ukraine’s national flower on her head.
Some weird stuff going on about Russian aircraft on the move via Twitter. @RedToothBrush what do you make of this? twitter.com/gerjon_/status/1504361948619673603?s=21
Don't know.

Fair amount of speculation but I don't think I see anything that makes me panic.

Look at what you see being reported here carefully.

Indeed its just been tweeted that 4 of the planes are back on route to Moscow already. And one of the tweets from the thread says:
RSD 3LD according to the FAA:

SPECIAL DETACHMENT - RUSSIA, FEDERAL STATE BUDGET INSTITUTION /RUSSIAN FEDERATION / STATE AERO / RSD

Note the word 'budget'.

I know the automatic thought is 'bunker' but looking at the evidence, is that what we are seeing. The flights do not appear to be going to places which say 'bunker'.

The planes have gone all over Russia, to Iran and a suggestion of China for at least one. (unconfirmed)

Why?

My best guess - money.

What we know: Russia is in severe crisis and the economic shit is about to hit the fan.

We know that diplomatic efforts by the West have taken government officials all over the world. So flights to Iran and China seem entirely logical and indeed seem probable. Indeed, if you are going to either, you aren't going to a bunker. (At least not immediately!)

So what about the flights to various locations around Russia. Russia is about to have a massive domestic crisis. One thats going to need management and orders given to people. So that perhaps makes sense. If you are prudent you'd be sending people to head that up ahead of shit hitting the fan.

I have seen other suggestions, but the word budget is the thing that catches my eye and tallies with what we know is going to happen rather than something unexpected about to happen.

Will keep an eye, but yeah, I don't think we need to be thinking about duck and cover on the basis of this just yet unless I see some sort of other compelling evidence.

Putin is a war criminal. He has to be called what he is if we are to maintain our humanity. He will try to control his own country's thinking and speaking and he might tie our hands militarily but he cannot shut us up.

Jisforjelly · 17/03/2022 12:10

I don’t buy this “government officials go to a bunker during threat of nuclear attack” If a nuclear war happened they’d emerge to a wasteland. And they’d have to stay in the bunker for a very long time to avoid the fall out radiation surely?

elephantmarchingin · 17/03/2022 12:11

Didn't those planes take off hours ago?

Too true

I can think of a few other areas this applies as well

Rising costs.

Fuel, Covid, Brexit.

Ben Clatworthy @benclatworthy
EXCL: Times understands P&O intends to fire all their UK staff on the spot and replace them with cheaper overseas labour

- Understood RMT planning a sit in on ships
- All services suspended and passengers and warned of mass disruption

Also speculation its unlawful dismissal. Not redundancy.

Russia related? Not as likely.

Some yes. Some are now returning.

Also a bunch of private planes gone to Dubai from Moscow today.

ClaudineClare · 17/03/2022 12:16

What an absolutely shit way to treat their staff.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2022 12:24

It doesn’t sound legal to do it that way

holliem91 · 17/03/2022 12:30

You have to stay in the bunker for 2 days to 2 weeks depending on proximity to blast and wind direction according to DH (nuclear scientist).

Lavrov was halfway to Beijing last night when his plane turned around abruptly and returned to Moscow ⁦*@BILD*⁩ reports. Unclear if Putin called him back or Chinese side got cold feet

Giant mystery about Lavrov's flight
Is that a red flag? Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (71) actually wanted to fly to his big ally in Beijing on Thursday night. But in the middle of the flight, his plane turned off again halfway over Novosibirsk (Siberia)! Instead of going to China , it was the 2800 kilometers as the crow flies back to the departure airport in Moscow Vnukovo.

And the world is puzzled: didn't Beijing want to receive Putin's foreign minister (Western nickname: lying Lavrov), or did Putin order him back because the hut in Moscow was on fire?

Another worrying message.

"Formations controlled by the Kiev regime regularly carry out provocations that are aimed at creating an emergency situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The blame for this falls entirely on Kiev, the American masters"

From a tweet in Russian on a government account.

Also being reported:

KREMLIN: U.S. USED NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN JAPAN AFTER WORLD WAR II AND HAS NO RIGHT TO PREACH TO US

Ok. I might start to be a bit more worried.

Especially when this was also tweeted 2 days ago:

Lui Xiaoming @ambluixiaoming
Chinese government official
China always opposes the deployment of nuclear weapons by nuclear-weapon states on other countries’ territory. Due to historical reasons, Japan’s movements in the military and security fields have been closely watched.

Lately, there have been repeated dangerous calls in Japan that contravene its three non-nuclear principles, which give its Asian neighbors and the international community strong reasons to question whether Japan could follow a peaceful development path.

China is gravely concerned about this, and urges Japan to be prudent with its words and actions and adopt a responsible attitude in maintaining regional peace and stability.

Wtaf.

Somethings going on. Wtf i dont know.

Looks like the Chinese might have been unhappy / not on the same page as the Russians about something...

Fuck knows.

Some on Twitter are suggesting it's a deliberate message to the West, like a drill in the event of nuclear war. It's all so pointless, what are they getting from this apart from untold misery for everybody

I think it means its the presidental office plane.

Doesn't mean Putin is on it. Or its doomsday.

“DuncinToffee

Russian mothers

You rarely hear from mothers of Russian soldiers. This lady came up to us at an anti-war protest in Moscow, desperate for the safety of her 22 yr old son. She told us there were only 10 men left in his regiment. If there are voices Putin fears, it’s these

twitter.com/jamesaalongman/status/1504382524503609348?s=21”

I saw the photograph of her son she showed saying, “He’s just a boy.” And she is right. He really only looks about 16. It is heartbreaking.

MagicFox · 17/03/2022 12:38

@RedToothBrush I'm not sure how to interpret that tweet about Japan? Is the suggestion that China are aligning with Russia?

notimagain · 17/03/2022 12:39

Re the aircraft movements…

For those who don’t know these aircraft are roughly speaking elements of the Russian royal flight/VIP Shock fleet and have been flying to and fro throughout the conflict.

Previously it’s been fairly easy to correlate a lot of their movements with those of diplomatic staff and/or politicians though in one or two instance the mischievous have speculated on the possibly of their movement being associated with funds being shifted.

There’s also the possibility that somebody at the top today wanted information of some sort carried by hand/delivered face to face to the regions, rather than by other means…roughly speaking the equivalent of the Diplomatic Pouch.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomatic_bag

Basically nobody here has a clue…..wonder if we will ever know?

Basically it is anybody’s guess what is
