Sorry, x-post, @shreddednips

Goldenbear · 17/03/2022 13:17

I'm confused, why are Sky reporting that Putin is ready to talk then?

shreddednips · 17/03/2022 13:22

@OMGTTC

Is that really what we think this is? With the planes? Is this going to really happen?

If it’s a scare tactic, it’s working.

Nobody can call this one way or the other at the moment, but I think it's important to remember that intimidation is Putin's MO. He has limited means available to him, so the only thing he can do is to rattle his sabre at us. I think it's so, so unlikely that Russia would advertise an imminent nuclear attack in such an obvious way that people are discussing it on mumsnet, Twitter etc.

Think of the threats he's made so far. Consequences like we've never seen in our history. Well, we've interfered like nobody's business, yet he hasn't actually done anything.

He's a cock and would be delighted to know that we're all worrying about it, it's like psychological warfare. So I think the best thing to do is as RTB says, get on as much as we can and see it as a big middle finger up to Putin and his cowardly bullying and threatening.

OMGTTC · 17/03/2022 13:23

Thank you, @shreddednips Flowers

Jisforjelly · 17/03/2022 13:25

@Goldenbear I just saw that report too.

Ukraine war: Reports '15-point' peace deal being 'seriously discussed' as Putin says he's 'ready to talk'

hilbil21 · 17/03/2022 13:26

I love it how RTB puts the fear of god into people then goes off to dye hair GrinGrinGrin

holliem91 · 17/03/2022 13:27

Thank you @shreddednips

I find you incredibly reassuring and I'm grateful you're on this thread.

Lots of speculation about the situation atm. I'm very scared. Some saying this is just a threat to the west, some saying it's a nuclear drill to see if their plan works and to watch how western sources track their movements.

I wasn't panicking much but now I am Sad I pray this isn't it.

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 17/03/2022 13:27

So the p&o announcement is redundancies

I've literally had to do a huge nervous poo
I've been a bit bunged up for days now so I feel a bit lighter now

EsmaCannonball · 17/03/2022 13:29

Japan is tracking four large amphibious Russian warships moving towards Europe atm. So, a major attack on Odessa?

shreddednips · 17/03/2022 13:29

@OMGTTC

Thank you, *@shreddednips* Flowers
No problem, it's just my gut feeling. He's most likely going to say some scary stuff in the coming days to try and fuck with everyone's heads, I think it's important to prepare for that. But what he says and what he does often don't align. He wants everyone to be scared, balls to him.
Natsku · 17/03/2022 13:29

Agree that the intent must be to scare us, intimidate us, anything to try and get the West to back off and ease sanctions to appease him. Need to remind ourselves of that when we're feeling anxious.

Where is this report I can't see it?

It might not even be that. As RTB said below, it could be a desperate attempt to raise funds or something. But I just have a feeling in my waters (don't know how much trust you want to place in my waters but hey ho 😆) that if this was the real deal, we wouldn't be finding out about it from Twitter.
holliem91 · 17/03/2022 13:33

My fear with all of these threats is that he can only threaten for so long until he actually has to act. It's like the boy who cried wolf. His scare tactics may only work for so long. But I suppose people still have to take his threats very seriously as it's a nuclear threat we're talking about.

notimagain · 17/03/2022 13:34

I think as shreddednips has said one explanation for this episode earlier today is almost certainly sabre rattling.

The aircraft were deliberately left visible to the likes of Flight radar and therefore to western eyes.

Reasons for that might the fact that the departures were benign or a deliberate decision was made to advertise events, possibly to generate the sort of discussion we are having here.

Once upon a time similar mass aircraft departures with a view to scattering assets were a common part of training during the Cold War though I’m not sure if the transport/VIP fleets ever did them on a regular basis….I’m sure the Soviets and the Russians after them did similar….

thereisonlyoneofme · 17/03/2022 13:34

How can Putin be trusted if an agreement is reached ?

re movement of ships etc.I wonder if China is now backing him and hes got cocky

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2022 13:35

EsmaCannonball · 17/03/2022 13:36

The private jets to Dubai might just be the rich getting out after Putin's speech last night.

EezyOozy · 17/03/2022 13:37

What are these Russian planes doing now? I've tried looking on front flight radar myself but I just get so confused with all the hundreds of little yellow planes....

shreddednips · 17/03/2022 13:37

Send it to the Kremlin with a thank you note 😆😆😆😆😆
