I did find something about 'public hangings' in Ukraine

twitter.com/juliadavisnews/status/1503149624789504004?s=21
Pundits on Russian state TV advocate implementing public hangings in Ukraine once Russia's dominance is established. If you speak Russian, here is one example (watch). Other pundits later agreed, one of them noting that DPR/LPR constitution conveniently permits the death penalty.

And

twitter.com/kitty_donaldson/status/1499381363010682881?s=21
NEW: Russia's intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service, has drafted plans for public executions in #Ukraine after cities are captured, per a European intelligence official

Nothing linking to individuals.

Berlin warns Ukrainian refugees about trafficking danger

The Homes For Ukraine Scheme has been launched.
www.gov.uk/guidance/homes-for-ukraine-scheme-frequently-asked-questions
Anyone in the UK (of any nationality and any immigration status providing they have at least six months leave to remain in the UK) with a spare room, or separate self-contained accommodation that is unoccupied can come forward to help. Accommodation must be available for at least 6 months, be fit for people to live in, and suitable for the number of people to be accommodated.

Named individuals can offer residential rooms or unoccupied self-contained residential units to a specific person or people, and charities, NGOs may be able to help you to make contact with a named person. In the future we will work to help organisations to also sponsor individuals, but we are starting the first phase of the scheme with named individual contacts.

and

Those arriving will have met standard security checks.

Sponsors and all adults in the sponsoring households will also be subject to security checks and may be subject to safeguarding checks too.

Your council will want to check that the accommodation you are offering is appropriate in the circumstances.

Zelenskyy

Discussed with President of the 🇪🇺 Commission @vonderleyen the 🇪🇺’s support for 🇺🇦 in countering Russian aggression. Increasing sanctions pressure on Russia is important. We also appreciate significant financial assistance. Ukraine continues to move towards membership in the #EU.

So no hope in terms of peace negotiations then Sad

I know it’s naive, but I was hoping for a breakthrough today.

1dayatatime · 14/03/2022 16:54

I was genuinely shocked by this clip, the woman being interviewed in Moscow said "how long do you think it will take for me to get arrested if I said two words", she then held up a piece of paper that simply said "two words" and was immediately arrested.

As the reporter said - this is insane:

This is in the FT, not sure if it's a new development about China's willingness to assist Russia?

ScrollingLeaves · 14/03/2022 17:08

I saw the Ukrainian representative of the United Nations speaking in New York on BBC news this afternoon. He mentioned the “Future of NATO and the OAC.” Please can someone tell me what the OAC is?

Gingerwarthog · 14/03/2022 17:17

So if we want to sponsor a refugee we need to have their name already?

Was it ACO, not OAC?

I think you are allowed to meet them via Instagram...

It doesn't seem as straight forward as they make it out to be.

Gingerwarthog · 14/03/2022 17:25

@DuncinToffee
You wouldn't even do Air B n B like that..

Gingerwarthog · 14/03/2022 17:27

This is crazy. You flee a war zone then create a lovely video of yourself on Insta and wait to be picked?
Is this seriously what's being suggested?
Sorry if I have this wrong. Been at work and haven't really seen much detail on this.

DuncinToffee · 14/03/2022 17:28

I know Ginger, it seems very limited.

EsmaCannonball · 14/03/2022 17:30

The police response to Deripaska's mansion being taken over by squatters is rather infuriating. If you or I told the police our houses had been taken over, we would be told it is a civil matter. For a burglary we'd get a crime number. Perhaps they should have thrown this amount of manpower into investigating the source of all that gangster money sloshing around the London property market.

Gingerwarthog · 14/03/2022 17:30

Maybe I'm cynical but it seems a great way of saying to people oh look none of you helped the refugees - we, the Government tried!- while simultaneously making it as Byzantine a process as possible....

Don't think anything official has been released yet today
holliem91 · 14/03/2022 17:39

@TokyoSushi I think that is a new development, I've seen it in a few of places over the past hour.

I was really hoping things were going to cool down soon. Sad

AgnesWestern · 14/03/2022 17:42

So China are helping to provide military aid to Russia? Or they haven’t said either way? Thats what I’m getting from it.

AgnesWestern · 14/03/2022 17:43

@holliem91 me too Sad seems like a never ending rollercoaster.

AgnesWestern · 14/03/2022 17:47

But the opposite is being reported here:

Infuriating is right. Dozens of them hot-footing it along after Mr Oligarch no doubt phoned his pal Mr Johnson and told him to sort it out.

The Met getting it wrong day in, day out.

shreddednips · 14/03/2022 17:49

@AgnesWestern

So China are helping to provide military aid to Russia? Or they haven’t said either way? Thats what I’m getting from it.
From what I understand, there was intelligence that suggested China might be considering providing financial aid or military equipment to Russia. Jake Sullivan met with Yang Jiechi in Rome today to discuss the matter (and wider issues around the strained relationship between the US and China.)

As far as I know, we don't know anything about the results of that meeting yet. The US will have told China that it can expect sanctions if it tries to help Russia bypass western sanctions or provide military aid. I have absolutely no idea how to call what China will do next. Aiding Russia would be very much against its economic interests, but then again, backing away from Russia would leave Xi with egg on his face because it would highlight his poor judgement in building such close ties with Putin.

It would be interesting to know what the nature of the intelligence was!

AgnesWestern · 14/03/2022 17:54

@shreddednips

I’m hoping this one is true and not the other one!

No. The first wave will be people you might know / you can be matched through an agency.

Second wave of applications the government will match you.

holliem91 · 14/03/2022 17:56

@AgnesWestern

I know. I'm mentally drained from it but have to know what's going on otherwise my anxiety is worse.
