Thought this was a good read:

^^Chappell tells her patients worried about Ukraine to give themselves permission to feel competing feelings: “It’s OK to feel grateful for what you have and grief for others at the same time. These feelings can coexist.”

It’s equally OK to be suffering in your own way right now, over something completely unrelated to the crisis in Ukraine.

I'm only an armchair commentator on this, but I really can't see the Ukrainians agreeing to these terms. But I suppose that's the point - it is an opening statement, not the end of negotiations.
Exactly, first rule of negotiation is don't accept the first offer.

Also opening extreme to give yourself plenty of moves. We sometimes open obscene to be really cheeky

United Nations: 1,207 civilian casualties of Russia’s war in Ukraine, 406 people killed and 801 injured.

Most casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including heavy artillery, multi-launch rocket systems, missile and air strikes.

That Russian gymnast who wore the pro-invasion "Z" to have disciplinary proceedings opened against him for his "shocking behaviour".

At least from today, the Russians and Byelarussians will no longer be able to compete even as neutrals.

@Roussette

She says the scheme is “the first of its kind in the world” (??) and says that it has already had 14,000 applications

I cannot tell you how much PPatel gets on my nerves. Can't stand the woman.

Three times today she has talked of 14,000 applications or thereabouts.
Applications are irrelevant.
It's issued visas that's important.

50.

Poster welcoming refugees in Calais

The shocking poster that greets Ukraine refugees arriving here in Calais. Appears to be absolutely no official British help on the ground for these traumatised people. The wonderful volunteers of @Care4Calais are doing their best to help.

Priti Patel says refugee situation is a “rapidly moving situation” and says new figures will come this evening. “The figures that have been publicised are absolutely inaccurate and they have not been assured by the home office.”
She says the scheme is “the first of its kind in the world” (??) and says that it has already had 14,000 applications.

'Applications'.

Watch the weasel word.

I keep thinking about the state of Ukraine after the conflict. There's the rebuilding of infrastructure; a male-heavy society; the countries been flooded with weapons; trade, industry, social services needing to be reopened, and that's without the consideration of (some?) land being occupied.

minsmum · 07/03/2022 16:30

I have seen a list of Ukrainian demands of Russia, it's a joke btw.
1 Russia withdraw from all of Ukraine
2 Putin present himself to the international court of justice
3 Free and fair elections in Russia
4 Russia make full reparations to Ukraine
5 Russia make a plan for eventually joint the EU and NATO
6 Russia change their national language to Ukrainian

FacebookPhotos · 07/03/2022 16:31

So it was Priti Patel telling porkies.

Honestly, I do not understand how people can possibly trust these charlatans. Not one could tell the truth if their lives depended on it.

LadyCordeliaFitzgerald · 07/03/2022 16:31

The Russian demands are interesting for what they’ve left out - no mention of de-nazification which was the pretext for invasion.

Tuba437 · 07/03/2022 16:32

I do think by the Kremlin publishing their exact demands it shows they want this over sooner rather than later.

Using that to get officials to pressure zelenskey into accepting them

Roussette · 07/03/2022 16:35

@DuncinToffee

That has really shocked me. Disgusting.

I also heard that it is just a 9 to 5pm number to ring too.

Yet we're world beating at this sort of thing aren't we? Are we? Hmm

Jacopo · 07/03/2022 16:36

Fuck off and die Putin.

Just felt that needed to be said.

Gingerwarthog · 07/03/2022 16:38

Please again - write to your MOs re this if you can support a temporary consulate being set up.
I've had a positive message back from my MP.

Gingerwarthog · 07/03/2022 16:39

MPs not MOs -

Grin The Ukrainians are trolling Putin. It's a reasonable list of demands seeing that Putin is expecting a sovereign country to hand over several of its regions and assets because he asked so nicely Hmm.
prettybird · 07/03/2022 16:42

She says the scheme is “the first of its kind in the world”

It probably is the "first of its kind in the world": the first scheme which makes refugees fleeing for their lives go through a complicated application process with as many barriers in place as possible Angry

alltheapples · 07/03/2022 16:42

@LaDamaDeElche

I saw on the news today about the 11 year old boy who was sent alone by his mother, who couldn't leave as she was looking after her elderly, sick mother, to Slovakia with a phone number written on his hand and some papers. Thankfully he was helped and managed to get to his relatives living over there. It makes you think what you would do in that situation. I have a 12 year old and I have to say, I'd probably leave my mother and go with my child in case anything happened to them. No judgement on the mother at all by the way, but it made me think about what I'd do as I have a child nearly the same age. What would all of you do? It's a terrible choice to have to make.
I assume if she left, her mother would die from lack of care. I am not sure I could abandon my mum if she couldn't sort out food for herself, and just leave her to starve to death. And the UK does baby children to an extraordinary degree, so he may have been far more capable than a typical UK 11-year-old. Desperate situations lead to having to make terrible choices.
Tigersonvaseline · 07/03/2022 16:42

Febrier, yes that concerns we Also, how to rebuild the infrastructure? The money wasted on trying to rebuild his manically sensless destruction.
The gun's aspect Also deeply concerns me, especially after the Batticlan.

DuncinToffee · 07/03/2022 16:43

1/ Outspoken Kremlin critic and extremely brave Russian politician, @IlyaYashin: I’m staying in Russia. Let them shove their war censorship up their ass. I said and will continue to say, Russians and Ukrainians should not be killing one another….
2/..If I’m destined to end up in prison for anti-war speeches, I’ll accept it with dignity.”

They've also got to try and get all their prisoners back inside. Not an easy job I'd imagine .

I can completely see why they released them though, with nobody to run the prison you couldn't leave people locked up in cells to die. That would be inhumane.

Ijsbear · 07/03/2022 16:47

@Freedombpass

It will take him some years to get back to a position where Russia is stronger, but he -will- try again. If not the Ukraine, something else.

I get where you are coming from but the guy is 70 and he looks like shit. I don't think he "some years" left in him.

Biden is what, 79? Putin's come a long way in 20 years, and could well have at least another 15 left.
RedToothBrush · 07/03/2022 16:49

Oooh I've got an update

Pippa Crerar @PippaCrerar
Now Priti Patel admits the processing centre is not actually set up yet - but that the Home Office is planning one.

No shit Sherlock.

Cos the Home Office haven't had TWELVE DAYS to forsee an issue and set one up.

Remind me who would be in charge of such a lack of oversight? And she still doesn't know whether shes set up a department or not?
