Jackie Singh 🇺🇦 🇺🇸@hackingbutlegalThis, out of #Ukraine, is 100% one of the most incredible videos I have ever seen.

This Russian POW has the heart of a lion

An amazing confession from a Russian POW listening to this is worth ten minutes of your attention.

Trying to read all of this, but got to say, I am feeling physically ill about all of this. Those poor Ukrainians 💔 and the thought of us going under, I haven't slept or ate properly in over a week, obviously I'm aware the ukrainans are having a far worse time than me, but I'm constantly trying to seek some reassurance and can't find any. I feel this is only going one way, I don't even want to take my children to school tomorrow morning Sad

Justanotherlurker · 06/03/2022 20:36

Firstly you are conflating two different things.

I am not stating things I have copied the tweet word for word from the Parliment of Poland

*I would not call information provided by the US Secretary of State "fake news"."

I didn't, but "looking at solutions" is not 'it is happening', again I didn't make the tweet and it is not from a random either.

toastfiend · 06/03/2022 20:37

@Thewayshetalks

What is scary (to me anyway) is that they declared they could nuke all NATO states at once leaving no retaliation for them
The UK's nukes are on submarines, as are some of the US'. Even if he nukes every NATO country and wipes out land based nuclear capability, there will be nukes on submarines that will retaliate. It's by design, otherwise MAD simply wouldn't work.
elephantmarchingin · 06/03/2022 20:39

@BreadInCaptivity

t's Poland who have said it's fake

Source??

The link that was provided above the fake news banner is from blue tick Poland chancellor
Jisforjelly · 06/03/2022 20:39

@Justanotherlurker so they’re not sending the planes? I thought they said they were?

vera99 · 06/03/2022 20:40

If Trident is ever used then we are effectively at the end of the world and certainly at the end of human civilisation.

Ijsbear · 06/03/2022 20:42

Hm. Russia has apparently signed an agreement with China to use their payment system since Mastercard and Visa are no longer doing business with them. Good long term move for China.

But the Asian Infrastructure and Investment bank has frozen its operations in Russia and China has a veto on all major decisions. So China has approved this

"The bank so far has approved $800 million worth of investments and loans to Russia, with another $300 million awaiting the green light. It also had 200 billion euros ($222 billion) worth of proposed projects in Belarus" asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ukraine-war/China-backed-AIIB-freezes-lending-to-Russia-and-Belarus

Deep shame on Shell though for buying a lot of Russian crude, cheap. Expected better.

RedToothBrush · 06/03/2022 20:42

A shipment of 1,000 anti-tank rockets and 500 fully operational US-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles was safely delivered this week.

Berlin announced this week that it plans to follow it up with a delivery of 2,700 of the Strela missiles.

But it has now emerged that 700 of the missiles are so badly damaged they are no longer operational.

The German defence ministry was reportedly surprised by the government announcement, because the Strela missiles were declared obsolete and placed in storage in 2014. They are at least 35 years old and had been declared unsafe.

Germany. A country known for its efficiency and attention to detail apparently shipped a load of missiles that it thought were useful but were a) unsafe b) damaged c) officially written off by one department.

Think about that.

Then i ask you again about those Russian nukes...

Can you see them a) launching b) detonating as expected at their intended target or c) it potentially ending up rather messy in Russian military bases without NATO launching a single missile of its own?

PestorPeston · 06/03/2022 20:43

@Wrongkindofovercoat look at a map, Russia could not afford to lose Crimea. For some years they rented their naval port, but really!
www.theguardian.com/world/2014/mar/07/ukraine-russia-crimea-naval-base-tatars-explainer

There's a long history behind this and unfortunately the Ukrainian people are paying the price.

You didn't read everything

The German defence ministry was reportedly surprised by the government announcement, because the Strela missiles were declared obsolete and placed in storage in 2014. They are at least 35 years old and had been declared unsafe.

The Ukrainian government reportedly specifically requested the missiles despite their age.

@RenegadeMasterx I know exactly what you mean. I’m feeling very afraid and struggling to eat or sleep at the moment.

I just keep thinking surely those at the top are trying everything in their power from stopping us ending up in a nuclear war, it’s game over and nobody wants that. Maybe Putin, but definitely not his generals and closest in command, they all have families and people they care about too.

Logburning · 06/03/2022 20:48

@vera99 do you think it will happen? I’m struggling so much right now, it’s just horrible, I want my child to grow up and to have a future.

Gosh I hope so. I think it's the fact everyone says how unhinged, unpredictable and dangerous Putin is, that he'll literally do whatever he wishes to do regardless of consequences. He isn't afraid of anything. There's rumours he's got a terminal illness, and is planning on going out 'with a bang'. Again, it's only rumours at the moment, but surely he knows he's not going to be able to live normally again after this so wont be phased by any punishments etc, what if he decides to just take us all with him Sad x

PestorPeston · 06/03/2022 20:54

Can we please stop with the POW videos

THEY ARE ILLEGAL

You need to take your children to school tomorrow morning and then I think you should speak to your doctor if this has been affecting your sleep to this extent for so long.

By not sending your children to school and not keeping things as normal as possible you’ll end up passing some of your panic on to them, which I’m sure you don’t want.

Talk of anything nuclear related is scary but it’s only talk- chances of anything happening are still really, really low.

Some time away from the news would be good for you or, if you really must know what’s going on, stick to factual pieces and avoid ‘what if’ articles.

TheSillyMastiff · 06/03/2022 20:56

Launching a nuclear missile requires more than one man. All it would need is one man to break the chain.

So even if a mad man is shouting "fire, fire fire" he isn't the one with his finger on the trigger luckily.

If there ever was a man mad enough to launch a nuke, and we now have two Kim and Putin, Kim has been madder for a while, but still no launch on South Korea.

Please try not to worry, especially if you are based in the UK. It's not like he can launch it and it arrive 3seconds later. Everyone would have fair warning and interception is a possibility. But I wouldn't even dissapear down that rabbit hole, honestly.

Ireland

www.rte.ie/news/2022/0306/1284759-ukraine-refugees/

The updated estimate on the number of refugees expected in Ireland comes as the latest figures show that 1,349 people have arrived into Ireland from Ukraine so far.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 06/03/2022 20:57

@PestorPeston I have looked at a map, I get why Crimea is so important strategically for the Russians. What do the land based Ukrainian forces have to combat the long range capabilities of the Russian navy from bombarding their southern cities ? Or do you think the Russian Navy hasn't really got involved yet ?

Interesting, but not sure what to believe, still!

Is he a Russian soldier coerced by Ukranians? A Ukranian pretending to be a Russian soldier? A Russian soldier ordered to be captured and pretend to have a change of heart so that he could elucidate sympathy for and mercy towards other Russian soldiers?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid. But the Russian authorities have form when it comes to ridiculously convoluted schemes.

vera99 · 06/03/2022 21:01

That POW video is very moving and he is a totally believable volunteer and it's certainly not illegal to watch it and no I don't think Trident will be used.

My niece's bf is a nuclear engineer on one and disappears for months on end - he said, and this was a year ago that the perceived wisdom was they feared the US rather than Russia. Hotlines are now open between the two militaries to make sure mistakes don't happen. Putin and his cronies are doing a lot of posturing but I don't frankly see it happening.

RenegadeMasterx · 06/03/2022 21:03

@Catquestion - I absolutely agree, I feel sick all day and have waves of sudden panic, I'm awake from 2am onwards, my heart races and my throat feels like it's going to close up. I am maybe letting this affect me too much but all I hear is that Putin is going to wipe us out, I'm so so upset for the people of Ukraine too. Thank you for your comment. I definitely need to come off socials for a while they're pretty damaging at the best of times. X

FacebookPhotos · 06/03/2022 21:03

I think it's the fact everyone says how unhinged, unpredictable and dangerous Putin is, that he'll literally do whatever he wishes to do regardless of consequences.

I don’t think that is all literally true though. He went into Ukraine thinking it would be a relatively easy win, and likely didn’t expect either full scale of sanctions nor the strength of the Ukrainian resistance. He takes big risks and is careless about the lives (of others) lost due to his actions. But he doesn’t appear to be suicidal.

He also isn’t a cartoon / Bond villain sat with his finger on the big red button. He has family, and friends. He needs to support of his generals to start a war or go nuclear. It helps (me) to remember that he is human. An evil one, sure. But not some all-powerful demon.

The world has been on the brink of nuclear war before and we (humanity) managed to pull ourselves back. And now we have China as a major player on the world stage (more powerful than Russia) who won’t get involved while they aren’t at risk, but also won’t want the world to end. So, if things got really bad, I can see them stepping in too.

vera99 · 06/03/2022 21:04

@BigHuff you are more than a sceptic than me but right to be so. It's a great piece of Ukrainian social media propaganda though if that is what it is. He seemed very poetic and spiritual for a grunt soldier but his lack of dentistry makes me think he isn't an actor.
