@RedToothBrush

Meanwhile the rest of nato and Europe are getting on with things rather than telling everyone else how to suck eggs and doing a nice little leaflet.

This just so fucking cringy.

Its the kind of thing one might expect if one asked primary school kids to make a poster, but at least they would have brushed their hair.

Not sure if Orla Guerin and Lyse Ducet have stayed in Ukraine. It would make sense to reduce the size of the team if food is getting low though and I have thought all week that Clive Myrie was really struggling.

No radiation issue's be assured.

Just major concerns about working conditions , loss of proper informed about levels from staff... staff under pressure...food problems, low morale etc.

Chief of Nuclear safety is extremely concerned

elephantmarchingin · 06/03/2022 17:37

This is from Sky 'The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said in another concerning development that Ukraine's nuclear regulator reported that communications had been lost with all institutions in Mariupol using category 1-3 radiation sources.
The port city is under siege by Russian forces.
Commenting on the situation in Ukraine, the IAEA's chief Rafael Grossi said: "I'm extremely concerned."'

Didn’t mean to post the image twice apologies

ClaudineClare · 06/03/2022 17:41

Phew, that is very worrying.

Megan Mohan *@meganmohan* Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak wearing the “Z” pro-invasion symbol on his shirt while sharing a podium with a Ukrainian rival on Saturday.

Kuliak finished third - behind winner Ukraine's Illia Kovtun in the parallel bars at a World Cup event in Doha.

Why is he allowed to be competing?

Does anyone have a share token for the article in today's Sunday Times about Clive?

Director of Bolshoi ballet has resigned

As has Belarus deputy defence minister

Hawkins001 · 06/03/2022 17:46

@Roussette

To be honest without further research, both for and against on the issue of open boarders, I'm not sure what's best, especially with Paris already being a safe haven away from the war

So let's not take any Ukrainians, is that what you're saying? Because Paris is safe?

They have family here and can't even get across from Calais to be with them. It's not 'open borders' FFS

50 visas issued. Poland has taken .1 million (I know they want to stay close to Ukraine), Germany have already registered more than 19,000.

Us... 50

I was explaining that they have reached a safe area away from the conflict, and to further my perspectives and knowledge, I would then need more research on the issues for having fast travel straight to the uk, vs following the embassy route in paris, then coming to the uk.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/03/2022 17:47

i hope the nuclear plant is not a real concern,
the concern is the workers need to be able to carry out vital duties.

brogueish · 06/03/2022 17:48

“Updates from BBC correspondents in Ukraine and the region: Jeremy Bowen, Lyse Doucet and James Waterhouse in Kyiv, Sarah Rainsford in Zaporizhzhia and Fergal Keane and Joel Gunter in Lviv”

This is who the BBC currently have reporting for the news app at least. Jeremy Bowen appears to have taken over from Orla Guerin - she was listed as being in Kyiv yesterday I think. Jenny Hill also dropped off Moscow on Friday when they withdrew from Russia.

I have huge amounts of respect for war journalists. The lengths the teams go to to keep us informed is incredible.

brogueish · 06/03/2022 17:50

@CovidCorvid my thoughts exactly!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/03/2022 17:50

agree @brogueish
they do amazing jobs
quite humbling

Tuba437 · 06/03/2022 17:53

I'm guessing with kremlin saying any airports used by another country for Ukrainian jets would consider them to be joining the conflict, sort of rules out the Polish jets going to Ukraine?

Looks like Russia are just destroying any airfield so they would have to use another countries if they wanted extra jets.

They just need to be so careful treading this line around becoming part of the conflict and just helping Ukraine to defend themselves.

I have no vested interest.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/03/2022 17:55

surely too much is being shared on the news?
all this talk about offering planes?
if we know this from the news, it is known by all?

Footage from a huge pro-Ukraine demonstration inside occupied Nova Kakhovka.🇺🇦

There is just no way the Russians will ever control this country. It's just not going to happen.

Orla Guerin was in Irpin (where the bombed bridge on the route out of Kyiv) earlier today I believe. Whether she is leaving Ukraine its not clear. Her BBC team are Goktay Koraltan, Wietske Burema and Natalka Sosnytska

worriedatthemoment · 06/03/2022 17:59

@RedToothBrush what do you suggest they do ?

notimagain · 06/03/2022 18:00

@blueshoes

notimagain: Putin may well not have had the full picture but from what I’ve been hearing/reading in the last day or two even many of the more honest professionals on the NATO side are now fessing up to having a really really tough time reconciling what they believed a week plus back with what they are witnessing right now.

Please elaborate, if you can.

Tough to explain without getting into specifics, other than some people who you would expect to be read into the latest info on Russian methods (both on the ground and in the air) have apparently been looking at the last few days and have gone this wasn’t in the brief….
