That’s really good, thesillymastiff. I wrote to my MP last week and got a generic reply, but will try again today. And local councillor too. Our council has elections coming up, and I’m in a ward which changes hands quite regularly.

Could you please let us know how you get on with your MP?[/quote]
Yes definitely, I have to say she's lovely, a labour MP as we are in a safe labour seat area. I meet with her monthly as I tend to discuss our project delivery. I then also meet with other MP's but not as regularly in other areas as I am management and am responsible for project delivery of about a 200mile radius in my area. Spanning about 8 parliamentary seats.

Is there a way to ensure AirBnB places are genuine and not being hijacked by fraudsters?

I’ve dipped in and out of these threads because I find them a really useful source of information but, as someone whose imagination can come up with awful things by itself and certainly doesn’t need any encouragement, please could I ask that people don’t specify what’s in some of the links if they’ve been posted with a graphic/upsetting content warning?

@DGRossetti

"Home Office reveals only "around 50" visas have been granted under the Ukraine Family Scheme as of today.

Well if they're not fruit pickers, they ain't coming in.

What is the deal with sponsorship?

We’re looking at work sponsoring and I thought this would be good as being able to work is key

International women's Day on the 8th see, so a prime time to discuss women fleeing war 😉 I have a few physical and zoom meetings celebrating women in the diary.

To contrast with the stories about pro-russian protests in Serbia

apnews.com/article/russia-ukraine-vladimir-putin-business-nato-belgrade-ba3d38df487cbe9f52a5332bfe55ec6e?utm_source=Twitter&utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_medium=AP
Russians living in Serbia join rally against Ukraine war

As I've pointed out before, pro-russian / pro-eu views are largely split evenly in Serbia.

There is some concerns about how this crisis is going to affect both Bosnia and Serbia atm, with worries that it cause tensions or destabilisation.

Serbia is pretty connected both economically and politically to Russia so if things are going badly there its going to have an impact there. Many things which recieve Russian funding, simply aren't.

Gingerwarthog · 06/03/2022 17:04

@TheSillyMastiff
That's great. Possibly an opportunity to talk to more MPs then which is fantastic.
I hope whatever their political persuasion they can support Yvette Cooper.

Thanks for posting the new thread, it reached 1000 while I was asleep. I am going to be largely offline for the next ten days so I'd appreciate if people will keep the thread series running so I can look in as and when I can get a connection. Thank you all for your input on these threads, it has been informative, interesting and absolutely worth reading from day 1 - many eyes and bullshit filters have made it my first call for updated info It's you as mumsnetters who have made it what it is, it's a credit to you all.

Again, thank you. Take care and I hope when I'm back proper the world will be a little brighter again.

@RedToothBrush

My thoughts on the state of the Russian army / equipment.

The US / British if they have been good at spying will probably have had a better idea on its fighting ability and training than Putin himself. Simply because they WILL get intel from lower levels than Putin has been no one has told Putin the truth for years.

Putin may well not have had the full picture but from what I’ve been hearing/reading in the last day or two even many of the more honest professionals on the NATO side are now fessing up to having a really really tough time reconciling what they believed a week plus back with what they are witnessing right now.

No announcement yet. Im keeping an eye.

My community historically helped refugees in WWII so I think there would be a desire to help locally. I spoke to a couple of friends on Friday about it, and got positive feedback.

Atm we are waiting on whats going to come out on this, but i feel frustrated because theres so much footdragging on it and feel this should already be out there.

I only picked ones with reviews going back well before the last two weeks. You can never be certain but I have also tried other ways. DS spent time in Ukraine 2 years ago so we are also getting his host family to advise us on how to help their community.

Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov, generally known as pro-Russian, has come down firmly on the side of Kyiv in recent days.

“I don’t know what kind of bastard you have to be to press the button to drop bombs on Odessa”

Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak wearing the “Z” pro-invasion symbol on his shirt while sharing a podium with a Ukrainian rival on Saturday.

Kuliak finished third - behind winner Ukraine's Illia Kovtun in the parallel bars at a World Cup event in Doha.

Meanwhile the rest of nato and Europe are getting on with things rather than telling everyone else how to suck eggs and doing a nice little leaflet.

This just so fucking cringy.

*Sky News: Putin signs new law to seize his own officials' money

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing funds to be seized from the bank accounts of officials if the sum of the deposits exceeded their declared incomes over three years and was shown to be illegal, state television said on Sunday.*

This is interesting.

He's risking alienating his own officials here. The economy must indeed be in deep trouble if he's reached a point where this is necessary.

Those Oligarchs must be watching this nervously. How long will it be until Putin wants demands them to contribute to his war chest/propping up the economy?

elephantmarchingin · 06/03/2022 17:31

@Tigersonvaseline can you link to anything? Nothing is being reported anywhere yet that I can see!

This might be a good idea.

I am "going" on a walking tour of Kyiv and a wine tour near Mariopol this week. Both through Air BnB who have waived there charges in Ukraine. You need to book for today / tomorrow to get money to them fast.

I picked at random but focused on single person businesses run by women.

It is not much, but it is a small way to help.

@Cismyfatarse that’s really good!

Tigersonvaseline · 06/03/2022 17:34

BBC news.

Report's Deon the Nuclear plant.
No detection of radiation or problems but Putin has broken one of the 7 nuclear safety law's.
All workers phone's forced off And internet.

Food issues.

Allowed too work in 3 shift's ( good news)

Bad news is that the staff must be able to working freely And without pressure.

Chief is extremely concerned And has offered site visits too ensure safety

elephantmarchingin · 06/03/2022 17:35

@nottinghamsupporter I'm presuming it may be sky news? Something about them being confirmed but does not say Russia have done anything...yet!!!!
