How many pizzas would you have ordered?

Following a tense situation this evening I though I'd consult the hive mind.

Friday night dinner for 6 adults - how much would you expect you'd need to order?

(Dominoes/Pizza Hut style pizza)

OP posts:
EeeICouldRipATissue · 05/03/2022 15:08

Does anyone really give a shit how many calories is in their Domino's pizza when they order it?!
It's not really top of my concerns when eating one!
It's not like it's an everyday occurrence, everything in moderation and all that!

mylittlepink · 05/03/2022 15:13

Either 3/4 large pizzas with sides.

Sounds like your with my in-laws. 2 large pizza between 4 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids. Ordered without asking until it came and we had to pay half Confused
Was so hungry, it was awful. Kids were all staring at us eating so ended up only getting one slice and having to go through McDonald's drive thru on the way home.

ErinTingey · 05/03/2022 15:16

I don't think it's necessarily stingy to serve everyone the correct adult portion size, which is what OP's FIL did.

Appetites vary depending on many factors. OP missed lunch and is bf so not a huge leap to think she'd eat more than what you would personally deem a 'reasonable' portion.

Always better to over cater to guests or simply ask how hungry they are than to serve what you deem acceptable.

SlipperySlope99 · 05/03/2022 15:18

I’d probably order 5 and a large garlic pizza, don’t tend to order the side dishes and anything leftover is breakfast for the next day
As dominoes isn’t a regular thing, it’s a eat and be merry, certainly not a calorie counting exercise

ShirleyPhallus · 05/03/2022 15:20

Why do people post things like this? Surely they know how ridiculous they sound?!

@LottyD32 it’s a piss take, like lots of the “massive salad” chat and competitive underreating on this thread!

Ah OK, but a lot of people do post stuff like that, seriously Confused

Only in the sense that I sometimes order the 'de-light' pizza from Dominos so the overall calorific impact of smashing through the entire large pizza on my own is a smidgen less Wink

Other times, I get stuffed crust.

itsgettingweird · 05/03/2022 15:36

My ds (17) can eat a whole large pizza, wedges and sometimes either chicken strips or small garlic bread to himself!!! Sometimes he will leave a few slices of pizza (not very often Grin)

He's a swimmer and trains 20 hours a week so for those measly calorie counters he's probably still in deficit.

We have dominoes about 3 times a year so if we are doing it - we are doing it right GrinGrinGrin

Magicandspiders · 05/03/2022 15:42

4 large and sides

spacehardware · 05/03/2022 15:44

Am so ordering dominos tonight

PinkSyCo · 05/03/2022 15:53

The fact is, even if you are a calorie counter or get full on a sniff of a lettuce leaf, you should always order in more rather than less if you have guests. With this amount of food I would feel awkward helping myself to more than one slice if I were OP and nobody wants their guests to feel awkward do they?

LottyD32 · 05/03/2022 16:12

This. How did the serving go down op?

cushioncovers · 05/03/2022 16:16

The original order was 1x medium & 1x personal sized pizza plus a little 4 slice garlic bread.
After much prodding an extra medium pizza was added.

For those asking this was the pizza order that the op's FiL ordered for 6 adults.

Chocomelon · 05/03/2022 16:21

At least 4, maybe 5, plus sides.

I did say in my previous post that OP probably needed more as she is BFing and I would always invite my guests to order what they wanted.

My point was that the FIL's expectation of what constitutes a serving of pizza is just as valid as everyone who thinks that 1 large pizza is the norm. I'm guessing he is older than me as my DC are in their early 20s and the norm when I was younger was a 7" inch pizza was an adult meal. 12" supermarket pizza's were sold as "family size" Grin He probably wasn't expecting to have to spring for a large pizza per person when he made the offer to treat everyone. He probably thought that everyone would want a normal size family evening meal portion as opposed to a blow out treat with leftovers for breakfast, which is what seems to have become the norm with pizza.

If you think about it, a large slice of pizza is about the same as one slice of cheese on toast. A large pizza has 10 slices and nobody would think to cater 10 slices of cheese on toast per person.

I did say in my previous post that OP probably needed more as she is BFing and I would always invite my guests to order what they wanted.

But you also said FIL wasn't stingy, which he clearly was. He didn't consider his guests.

Last time I had Domino's the toppings were not generous and the base thin. Hardly compares to a slice of cheese on toast.

chesirecat99 · 05/03/2022 21:38

I think a guest who would order a whole large pizza (as PPs, not OP, have suggested is the norm) for themselves when someone else is paying would be being a greedy CF, much moreso than a host who mistakenly thought an adult portion of pizza is a few slices is "stingy". Although he's not mistaken nutritionally, only in what is culturally the norm nowadays.

purplebunny2012 · 06/03/2022 17:26

3 large

angela99999 · 06/03/2022 17:34

@Abraxan

Minimum of 3 large, but probably add a 4th incase people wanted more. Also with sides.

If everyone wanted different things I'd increase number and reduce size.

This. If they wan different pizzas you might need 6
Yogalola · 06/03/2022 17:35

Let everyone make their own choices, not everyone likes the same so sharing pizzas not everyone would be happy. Leftovers can be eaten the next day.

Bleachmycloths · 06/03/2022 17:39
  1. 6 if some guests are big hungry men 😊
user1471538283 · 06/03/2022 17:46

We are shocking for pizza. My DS and bf could easily eat a large one each with sides. I usually have a much smaller one. When I was bf years ago I could have easily eaten a large, you really need lots of calories.

I always go by it is better to have too much and it usually gets eaten.

chicken12 · 06/03/2022 17:46

2 with sides large pizza

VintageRoseFlower · 06/03/2022 17:50

If the six adults were at a pizza restaurant would everyone order one each?
