How many pizzas would you have ordered?

Following a tense situation this evening I though I'd consult the hive mind.

Friday night dinner for 6 adults - how much would you expect you'd need to order?

(Dominoes/Pizza Hut style pizza)

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 05/03/2022 09:01

Not wanting to sound like the calorie police but a large Domino's is very large, around 2000 to 2500 calories

There’s nothing to suggest that this happens on a regular basis. An occasional blow out on the background of a healthy diet is fine. Do you think people don’t know dominos is unhealthy?

BlondeDogLady · 05/03/2022 09:01

@dirtyfries

Ok I've found my people Grin Yes I'm the BF travelling mother so perhaps a larger appetite than normal.

The original order was 1x medium & 1x personal sized pizza plus a little 4 slice garlic bread.
After much prodding an extra medium pizza was added.
What boggles my mind is that the order was made by a man who always orders a mixed grill in restaurants if available on the menu so it's not like he has a small appetite!

I'm in bed with the baby, I've just text DH who's downstairs to go get me a subway Blush

I would never go to their house again. That order for 6 people is batshit.

I have a friend like this. The last time I went to stay with her, the food she dished up was the tiniest portions in the world. It was December and the heating wasn't on. You could see you breath, inside the house! Wine glasses sat empty for ages. That was about 15 years ago, and I've never been back. And just to be clear, they are not poor - quite the opposite. They came to stay with us one time and ate and drank all weekend - their alcohol contribution was one bottle of mini Bud (even though they guzzled our wine all weekend).

mydogisthebest · 05/03/2022 09:02

I can't believe people are saying 6 pizzas. Me and DH are pretty big eaters but no way can either of us eat a whole pizza. With sides we only have half a pizza between us.

RuthW · 05/03/2022 09:02

5

stimpyyouidiot · 05/03/2022 09:03

I click on food threads just to see the batshittery

threestars · 05/03/2022 09:03

That would have made me hangry 😡
I would not have been able to control my impulse to go out and buy proper portions for us all even if it offended 🙈

hawkinspawkins · 05/03/2022 09:04

Silly man. He could have bought a few supermarket pizzas if he's that tight. At least everyone would have been fully fed

notacooldad · 05/03/2022 09:07

That exactly what you sound like!!!🤣🤣🤣

ClariceQuiff · 05/03/2022 09:09

Which 6 adults? If it was, e.g. me, DH, my parents, my sister and her DP it would probably be:

3 medium pizzas (one each for me, sister and sister's DP - that would factor in cold-next-day leftover slices!)
1 'personal' pizza for my DH
1 medium pizza for my parents to share

I'd get a fucktonne of dips but no other sides.

Haven't had a Dominoes in years, so if I was taking the plunge I'd do it properly, hence having a 'medium' pizza all to myself Grin

Kennykenkencat · 05/03/2022 09:21

The original order was 1x medium & 1x personal sized pizza plus a little 4 slice garlic bread

So I other words he ordered 1 medium size pizza between 5 adults was this 4 slices for your Dh 1 slice and a garlic bread each for the 4 women.
If he had told you when he was ordering it would have probably saved him money.
We had a pizza fest recently and by the time the discounts were added we had 2 xxl pizzas between 3 of us for just over £20. (Cash back, taste card, BOGOF deal etc)

Ponoka7 · 05/03/2022 09:24

@BarbaraofSeville

"Not wanting to sound like the calorie police but a large Domino's is very large, around 2000 to 2500 calories, "

So at least three pizzas is about right. But Dominoes is something you over order to get the better deals and eat the next day. The OP and her DH had missed lunch while traveling there. The OP BFing could eat a whole one and still be within her calorie limit.

Shade17 · 05/03/2022 09:28

I’d imagine most 8 year olds would eat more that a 1/4 of a large Domino’s

TrendingNowt · 05/03/2022 09:33

I'd order 2 large pizzas and sides. I can't imagine everyone would eat half a large, especially when there's garlic bread, chips, chicken wings, onion rings etc.

Kennykenkencat · 05/03/2022 09:34

Not wanting to sound like the calorie police but a large Domino's is very large, around 2000 to 2500 calories

But in this case at best it was 2 medium size not large pizzas divided by 6 not forgetting the 4/6 of a piece of garlic bread each
That is if the personalised pizza was for everyone and not just one person.

Derbee · 05/03/2022 09:35

Our large Pizza Hut pizzas were £8.99 each last night. Definitely 4 for 6 adults, with a couple of sides. Cold pizza the next day is the best part of a takeaway

liveforsummer · 05/03/2022 09:37

There wasn't chips, chicken wings and onion rings though. There was 4 slices of garlic bread between 6. I would rather a bit less pizza and loads of sides but that's a pretty expensive way to do it as the sides are pricey in the hope you do buy some on top of their cheap pizza deals. In the absence of loads of sides then more pizza is ok

SoTiredoftheStress · 05/03/2022 09:39

how was it divided up OP?

how did he split the 4 slice garlic bread between 6?

did FIL serve everyone on plates or did you each help yourselves?

how did everyone else react?

id have been so gutted.

If it was me id have ordered 4 or 5 large with sides.

Dominos is expensive but if im shelling out on it id want to be well stuffed :-D

purplesequins · 05/03/2022 09:50

we are 5 adult size people at home (2 hollow legged teens) and would order 3 large pizzas + a few sides. like a bucket of coleslaw and a bucket of chicken pieces.
very little left overs.

for 6 adults with normal appetite I would order similar.

mam0918 · 05/03/2022 09:52

6 pizzas.

If 6 people went to the Pizza hut restaurant you wouldn't order just 3 mains would you?

We eat in Pizza hut many times a year and have never seen people share pizzas.

  • Obviously, everyone will want different things Pizza toppings are as indervidual as taste in Subway sandwhiches etc...
SartresSoul · 05/03/2022 09:53

I’d say 3-4 large with a couple of sides.

KatherineJaneway · 05/03/2022 09:54

@dirtyfries

So how much did you each get in the end?

SartresSoul · 05/03/2022 09:54

We’re a household of 7 so 2 adults, 5 DC aged 1-12. We order 4 medium pizzas and 2 sides and that’s sufficient.

GatoradeMeBitch · 05/03/2022 09:58

When people say "6", do you mean large, medium, or small? 6 large pizzas for 6 adults is a lot of pizza. I'm a gannet and I would struggle to polish off a medium by myself.

mam0918 · 05/03/2022 09:58

@mydogisthebest

Me and DH eat a whole pizza to ourselves EVERY Friday, we don't have sides (weird with pizza it's a meal in itself, it has toppings)... neither are obese or overeaters or unusual eaters (if we are ill ot tired from overworking we might have 2 pizzas a week).

I'm currently carrying an extra stone after recently giving birth but at 5 ft 7 I still only weigh 10 stone which is a perfectly healthy weight.

dfendyr · 05/03/2022 09:59

We do 2 large sometimes with 2 garlic bread for 4of us.
So 3 large, maybe 3 garlic bread
