How many pizzas would you have ordered?

Following a tense situation this evening I though I'd consult the hive mind.

Friday night dinner for 6 adults - how much would you expect you'd need to order?

(Dominoes/Pizza Hut style pizza)

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 05/03/2022 07:48

I’d work on half a pizza each with an extra pizza as people may want more of one flavour, so 5 pizza

BigupPemberleyMassive · 05/03/2022 07:55

@Abraxan

Minimum of 3 large, but probably add a 4th incase people wanted more. Also with sides.

If everyone wanted different things I'd increase number and reduce size.

Half a pizza each. 6 people, half = 3 Plus one extra= 4

Where are you getting 5 from?
Is 5 a typo?

georgarina · 05/03/2022 08:00

4 large pizzas to be safe, plus 4 sides and salad

Lovemusic33 · 05/03/2022 08:02

We have one large between 3 of us but we have sides, so I would say if your just having pizza (no sides) then 3 large pizzas would be ok, maybe 4.

Loopytiles · 05/03/2022 08:14

3 large too little IMO. 4, minimum and that’s assuming people with similar tastes in toppings.

liveforsummer · 05/03/2022 08:18

Do we have bingo? The competitive under eating, calorie angst, full til lunchtime the next day, dominoes is disgusting - I'd never eat there, no pizzas is the correct answer! The use of emotive (goady) language such as 'shovelling' for anyone who more than nibbles on a crust to let them know that a poster is disgusted by them 😆. Anything missing?

Personally I think it's important to make sure there is plenty to feed guests, and it was known some had missed lunch and would be very hungry. Dominoes isn't as filling as Pizza Hut as the crusts are thinner - 5 large pizzas and some sides. If it was a buy one get one free I'd probably go with 6 rather than 4 to be safe. And I'd eat them at a normal pace and in a normal manner. No shovelling, troughing or stuffing. Any leftovers would be eaten at lunch with some salad (massive) to feel a bit less unhealthy.

stuntbubbles · 05/03/2022 08:22

@liveforsummer No one’s yet suggested topping it with a chicken to stretch it out for seven meals.

KohlaParasaurus · 05/03/2022 08:23

One per person, their own choice of toppings, because I have learned on Mumsnet that lots of people really, really hate sharing food. And a couple extra, and whatever "sides" are included with an order of eight pizzas. I'd rather have leftovers than hungry guests. And I'd encourage the guests to take any leftovers away because although I like freshly cooked pizza I'm not keen on morning-after pizza.

Terfydactyl · 05/03/2022 08:23

@knittingaddict

Those who are saying 6, what size? Not large, surely?
Well yes, large. One for each person. Why would anyone under cater, who wants to go home hungry. And I'm so generous apparently that I would get sides too. Any left over pizza gets sent home with guests or warmed up the next day.
notacooldad · 05/03/2022 08:27

6 no sides.

Darbs76 · 05/03/2022 08:27

Probably 3 or 4 large and some sides. Maybe a couple of cookie desserts (Papa J’s do a nice big cookie to share)

Darbs76 · 05/03/2022 08:28

Do people really eat one large pizza each to themselves? I literally have 2-3 slices when I have pizza. Not a chance I’d eat a whole large pizza in one sitting.

liveforsummer · 05/03/2022 08:31

Hmmm, I'm not sure adding to an already complete food stuff is 'in the spirit' of the mumsnet chicken?! Perhaps the left overs from the day 2 pizzas massive salad could be paired with the chicken?!

Ponoka7 · 05/03/2022 08:33

It's two large pizzas and two sides for £26, still not enough, but not as expensive as posters are making out. But the better deal would have been 40% off £40+.
If he's a first time GP, I wonder has it stored up feelings of being inadequacy/getting old, hence the strange behaviour.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/03/2022 08:35

Not wanting to sound like the calorie police but a large Domino's is very large, around 2000 to 2500 calories, very few people will eat a whole one, plus sides.

Surely if you ordered 8 pizzas plus sides, you'd still have a huge amount of leftovers even when people eat until they're beyond stuffed?

londonrach · 05/03/2022 08:35

6-7... Love cold pizza. Rule of thumb one pizza per adult as people will pick during the evening and sides.

JellyfishandShells · 05/03/2022 08:42

3, of different types so that there is variety. Plenty - unless the host wants to live on cold pizza for the next few days !

Inertia · 05/03/2022 08:44

Your FIL is not only inconsiderate to a BF mum, and tight, he’s also stupid. The most expensive way to order Dominos pizza is to order small amounts, because there are always deals if you order enough.

To answer your question, for 6 adults I’d order 6 large pizzas plus garlic bread and wedges, but would expect there would probably be some left over for lunches (or snacks for BF mums!)

Christmas1988 · 05/03/2022 08:46

4 medium or three large, maybe a few sides

bluesky45 · 05/03/2022 08:48

In my friendship group it would be 6, one pizza each. Men tend to order a large, women a medium with stuffed crust. Everyone takes their own leftovers home with them. We would also all pay separately too so you order what you're happy to pay for. Domino's is expensive!

Crunchymum · 05/03/2022 08:53

One medium and one personal sized pizza? And one portion garlic bread.

For 6 adults?

I think when it turned up, I'd have had to say something. That is ridiculous, stingy and inconsiderate.

BlondeDogLady · 05/03/2022 08:56

Everyone picks their own pizza. That's what we'd do. And it would be a large one each. If you don't finish, that's breakfast sorted for the morning.

SisterAgatha · 05/03/2022 08:58

If you call the local pizza places they will do a deal on big orders which far surpasses anything Pizza Hut/dominoes can offer. For kids parties we order from those.

And yeah years ago I could eat a whole pizza. A large stuffed crust too.

3 of the largest from domino's/pizza hut, they aren't very big, plus a few sides and 2x bottles of drink.
