Russia puts its nuclear deterrent on high alert

Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

He's not going to touch a NATO country as that will bring NATO into the conflict and Russia cannot fight NATO also, it would end in mutually assured destruction.

He didn't bank on the response from the Ukraine and the world to the Ukraine. I bet he didn't bank on the response from the Russian people either, because they do not back the war.

Its more sabre rattling, I hope someone puts a bullet in his skull, or poisons him before it gets that far, I hope the equivalent of the KGB sees the bigger picture, and takes him out before he has the chance to do anything that serious.

LacasadeBernadaAlba · 27/02/2022 14:50

Of course many feel scared but we are not the target of his anger let’s try and keep that in mind he wants Ukraine (and probably other countries around Russia) not the UK

Who is he threatening with nuclear weapons? NATO? If he wants Ukraine, it really wouldn’t make sense to be sending nuclear missiles into Ukraine or any other country he might want because he’ll kill everyone, need to bear the cost of rebuilding, and bear the cost of supporting those who don’t die in terms of medical care, food etc as the land will be unworkable. I mean, I know he’s bonkers but a missed or two into Ukraine is an own goal at best. If he’s going to use nuclear missiles, they’re pointing at NATO members, surely?

Lampface · 27/02/2022 14:51

No one should have this much power. It's mental.

BrambleAndBees · 27/02/2022 14:52

They are actually holding peace talks.

Lampface · 27/02/2022 14:52

@BrambleAndBees

They are actually holding peace talks.
Really? As in right now? Do you have a link?
youhadmeatjello · 27/02/2022 14:53

The thing that worries me is it’s all very well for us to all say on here he won’t hit a nato country but a lot in here we’re saying he wouldn’t invade Ukraine and it was all bluster yet here we are.

I think I might take a mumsnet and news break, my anxiety disorder is going into overdrive. I think the anxiety of the last two years was bad enough but this has just tipped me over!

Neenawneenaw76 · 27/02/2022 14:54

The problem is no-one actually knows just how sane this joker is. He's getting older, there are reports of poor health and he's a complete narcissist, how far is he willing to go? We can only hope there's people around him that can and will pull the brakes if they need to.

GingerScallop · 27/02/2022 14:54

@TheLoupGarou

As a child in the 80's in London I can remember local CND painting shadows on the pavement to represent victims of atomic bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I was terrified of nuclear war. I genuinely thought the days of that threat had gone. But here we are in 2022.
sadly as long as any country has any nuclear weapons, it's always a possibility
battenburgHatday · 27/02/2022 14:55

@wonderwoman26

Whilst it is a scary thought, I think even Putin must realise that Nuking any western country would end Russia within hours.

We, as part of NATO, have enough nuclear weapons to quite literally take Russia off the map instantly. Putin knows that, his advisors know that.

The thing we have on our side is our allies, we are all as one and Putin knows you attack one, we all attack back. Russia has no known allies - it would be a suicide mission for him and Russia and he cannot be oblivious to that.

I worry he’s that ill what if this is his suicide mission
Chestofdraws · 27/02/2022 14:55

He has simultaneously sent a delegation for a peace talk whilst putting his nuclear weapons on high alert.

marieantoinehairnet · 27/02/2022 14:55

@BrambleAndBees

They are actually holding peace talks.
Come on, there's no peace coming out of those talks, they were hoping to lure Vlodymyr to an assassination party in Belarus
Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 27/02/2022 14:55

I really don't think anyone ordered by Putin to 'press the button' could bring themselves to do it. Of course Putin would have whoever refused assassinated . This will all be over soon. One of his own will stop him.

Chestofdraws · 27/02/2022 14:55

Also I think we need to understand what a peace talk means to Putin, it’s Ukraine capitulating to his demands.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 27/02/2022 14:56

@hilbil21

I'm really trying not to be scared but I live a few miles from Faslane naval base. Would there be any point in me travelling to stay with family in England or if he uses nuclear weapons is that basically the end for all of us? (Sorry to be so downbeat)
If London gets nuked, the whole of the UK (and much of Western Europe will be affected by radiation).

If Faslane is nuked (and there wouldn't be much point as the subs are probably all out on the open sea somewhere) the same applies.

RunningFromInsanity · 27/02/2022 14:56

@Chestofdraws

He has simultaneously sent a delegation for a peace talk whilst putting his nuclear weapons on high alert.
Because his invasion isn’t going to plan. It must be extremely embarrassing for them to have not taken any Ukrainian cities yet.

By doing this he can go to the ‘peace’ talks with the threat of nukes. But everybody knows he’s not going to actually use them.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 27/02/2022 14:57

I also think China might have a word in his ear. Nuclear war kills all of us - I am not sure they want to be affected by this

ilovecardigans · 27/02/2022 14:57

Here's hoping...

Russia puts its nuclear deterrent on high alert

I agree. Or hopefully there's a James Bond in there as we speak Wink

I think I might take a mumsnet and news break

I think this is, broadly, a good idea. We’re living in an age where information is out there every minute, every day. I’m not advocating ignorance, but I certainly don’t need or want to know every development or new opinion, every minute of every day. That way lies madness.

katepilar · 27/02/2022 14:58

@Fakenamefornow

I think the best chance to stop Putin lies with the Russian people. They ALL need to get out on the streets.
In the streets? Sorry, that sounds like a joke at this situation.
RichardsGear · 27/02/2022 14:59

Well, I hope I get to finish the latest Richard Osman book before we go up in a mushroom cloud. I'm only on p79.

hilbil21 · 27/02/2022 14:59

@JuergenSchwarzwald I don't think all the nukes are on submarines though which is why I thought it would be a target, as some are stored on land in bunkers. That's only my understanding though and might be wrong.

I think this is the way I need to go.

@Bedsheets4knickers

I just wish someone would stick a bullet in his head . Surely the people closest round him do no want this either .
I've pondered so much on this

Why can't someone just stick a f..ing bullet is his head ?

Dude is ashamed he has lost .. didn't think resistance would be so tough and he is upset that everyone is supplying Ukraine weapons as well as the sanctions

Dude needs to pick his face from the floor and back out

But knowing P.. , I don't think he would easily let go
