Russia puts its nuclear deterrent on high alert

Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

OP posts:

@Nidan2Sandan

Peace talks will be starting near the Belarus border, and Belarus president has said no missiles etc will launch from their land during this.

I am fearful that Putin will not negotiate, he will demand and Ukraine rightfully wont acquiesce. We can hope that some middle ground will be found.

Belarus and Chechnya need taking to task for supporting Putin in this as well though. If only the West could get China inside, that really would cut the head off Putins beast.

The "peace" talks at the border are a blatant assassination attempt in the making, sad to say
Kassle · 27/02/2022 14:33

Feeling very grateful to be way up in north Aberdeenshire right now.

Why? Genuinely - why? Even if there WAS a nuclear war and you somehow managed to survive the initial blast, would you really want to live through a nuclear winter and the end of civilization? Not to mention the fallout would get you. No thanks. I live in a major city already but if I didn't, and there was a nuke on its way, I'd head as quickly as possible to the epicentre.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 14:34

China won't want the entire world to nuke each either

ABitBesotted · 27/02/2022 14:35

I deeply love both Ukraine and Russia. We have to hope that the peace talks will go ahead and all this will be deescalated.

No one is going to strike the UK. Stop making this about you.

Liz Truss is an embarrassment but, hopefully, also an irrelevance.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 14:35

The preppers board will be on fire 😆

Kassle · 27/02/2022 14:35

Not being funny but even Putin doesn't want that. If he did he could have done it already.

Yup fair enough. If it happens, it won't be nice being anywhere.

To be honest I am worried and I think there's no point in trying to pretend that we know what Putin will do next, but I'm also in the mindset that it's good that people are fighting back and not giving in to Russia.

GnomeDePlume · 27/02/2022 14:37

@battenburgHatday
He’s ill and he’s unpredictable due to it. It’s obvious. That is the problem if he’s not going to think rationally then he is dangerous, it is not just a case of asserting power and winning his war, I honestly thing there’s something wrong with him physically and/or mentally

I agree with this. My suspicion is that he realises that he has to be aggressive or risk being deposed then who knows what his fate will be. It would not surprise me if he were to be 'taken ill' and for the 'military exercise' to come to a halt.

Fakenamefornow · 27/02/2022 14:37

Putins not going to nuke the UK, its where all his money is.

RobertsRadio · 27/02/2022 14:37

He needs putting down like the rabid dog he is.

A bullet to the head, some left over Novichok, or a poisoned umbrella tip would all do the trick.

marieantoinehairnet · 27/02/2022 14:38

We have to accept this man will be squirrelled away in a bunker, with his key people by his side. The only way he'll be disposed of will be with one of his own, and I don't feel that's very likely. They live and breathe each other.

Applesonthelawn · 27/02/2022 14:39

He is a madman in charge of nuclear weapons, therefore unpredictable. Anything can happen. I'm sure the West is trying to stop the escalation, but someone really needs to put a bullet in his head and that's most easily achieved by one of his own people. Let's hope.

Imabouttoexplode · 27/02/2022 14:39

You only have to look at the unimaginable lengths a man will go to when he's backed in to a corner, such as killing his own wife and children etc, so I'd put nothing past Putin right now.

RobertsRadio · 27/02/2022 14:40

I agree. Safest place to be is among all those rich Russians, so Belgravia, Knightsbridge or the South of France.

Ah cmon, you know better than that, they’ve taken out many dangerous men holed up with their people in bunkers. They will know exactly where he is and how to get to him.
youhadmeatjello · 27/02/2022 14:44

Surely with all the sanctions we are putting in place those rich Russians aren’t going to stick around in the UK for long…

ThymePoultice · 27/02/2022 14:44

I often wondered what living through the Cuba Missile Crisis must have felt like.

Rosebuud · 27/02/2022 14:45

They want these rich Russians to presssure Putin to stop.
Ripepear · 27/02/2022 14:46

This is really scary. It seems like the west often say “nah, he is just making threats” and thinking we can deal with him by negotiating. But goodness knows what he is actually capable of.

OhWhyNot · 27/02/2022 14:46

I wouldn’t put anything past Putin

But we are not his target. People in Ukraine have felt his threat for years. Let’s be real our lives will carry on as normal tomorrow, we shall go on the school run, go to work, shopping etc and may have to pay higher petrol prices or worse out banking might be disrupted I understand people feeling extremely anxious but we are not being bombed we are not having to leave our homes and loved ones behind.

We need some perspective

LampLighter414 · 27/02/2022 14:46

Ready for when he moves onto Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in the future.

Nato will baulk and do nothing. Nobody wants nuclear war

RunningFromInsanity · 27/02/2022 14:47

He’s embarrassed as he hasn’t managed to take Ukraine as easily as he thought. This is an absolutely empty threat.

wonderwoman26 · 27/02/2022 14:48

Whilst it is a scary thought, I think even Putin must realise that Nuking any western country would end Russia within hours.

We, as part of NATO, have enough nuclear weapons to quite literally take Russia off the map instantly. Putin knows that, his advisors know that.

The thing we have on our side is our allies, we are all as one and Putin knows you attack one, we all attack back. Russia has no known allies - it would be a suicide mission for him and Russia and he cannot be oblivious to that.

Cherrysherbet · 27/02/2022 14:48

For Russia to get out of this sorry mess there needs to be a military coup. Here’s hoping 🤞🏻

I hope this happens, for the sake of all the people in Ukraine and for the rest of the world.
I think this is the only way out of this mess.

How can one person cause so much destruction in this day and age??

MidnightMeltdown · 27/02/2022 14:49

@Fakenamefornow

Putins not going to nuke the UK, its where all his money is.

He won't need money if he's dead. If he nukes anywhere Russia will be destroyed.

There are rumours that he's dying anyway so maybe he doesn't care - but hopefully anyone actually deploying the weapons would.
