Personally I don’t think Putin is the sort to back down. And right now he’s being humiliated. He thought this would be over by now. He’s not going to back down, he will dig his heels in and attempt to take Ukraine at all costs.

Honestly yes right now he’s threatening nuclear war and yes he’s pretty much being doing it from the start as he wants everyone to stop helping the Ukraine, to stop giving them weapons and aid. He sees it as an act of aggression against him and Russia.

I personally believe if it comes to it and they really think he might do this, then he will be taken out before he is able to do it. Either by his own people, NATO or the USA etc, I think they will take him out to save millions of lives if it comes to it and they think the risk is real.

The Guardian specifically says high alert.

It's not because of Liz Truss.

Ukraine is talking longer to beat then expected, that keeps the pressure on Putin. He doesn't want the world to see Ukraine as the good guys and for Russians to turn against him.

He’s ill and he’s unpredictable due to it. It’s obvious. That is the problem if he’s not going to think rationally then he is dangerous, it is not just a case of asserting power and winning his war, I honestly thing there’s something wrong with him physically and/or mentally

I think the best chance to stop Putin lies with the Russian people. They ALL need to get out on the streets.

A lot of them are coming out but the police are treating peaceful protestors very aggressively. The scenes from St Petersburg earlier were awful.

My worry is that Putin's attack on Ukraine isn't going as he intended, and that his response will be to ramp it up. It's scary.

Liz Truss is a fucking idiot.

I don't know what to make of this. Obviously the main thing about nuclear weapons is that everyone has to have them but no one wants to use them. And that worked in the cold war mostly because Russia was isolated and relatively weak. You can call a person's bluff when you have the upper hand.

However Russia for the last twenty years has become fully embedded in the UK, USA, Chinese and global economy. Boris is literally Putin's bitch, trump was too. It's Russian money that drives key factors of our economy like housing, energy and infrastructure, Chinese money too, and China likes Russia. Difficult to believe Putin would take anyone in the west seriously if they call his bluff now. You can't call the bluff of a person who owns you, and he owns our government - he put them in power and his money keeps their economic and political policies running. He is not an idiot and he knows this. And he's got nuclear weapons.

I just made the mistake of googling nuclear bombs as I've never really known what it means. Feel sick now. I used to be so paranoid about things like this ever since 911 and have finally found myself normal again. I shouldnt have googled it, or read this thread 😩

I thought the advisers looked pretty alarmed too. We can only hope that they will have the courage to step in and stop Putin before he goes much further.
