Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

OP posts:
amylou8 · 27/02/2022 15:01

Russia will be wiped out if he starts firing nukes. He must know that. But he's a complete madman so who knows. Yeah I'm a bit concerned at this point.

User7497521 · 27/02/2022 15:01

@RichardsGear

Well, I hope I get to finish the latest Richard Osman book before we go up in a mushroom cloud. I'm only on p79.
Yep, I want to know what happens in the TV series 'This is Us', I don't think it ends until Summer
keysonthetable · 27/02/2022 15:03

Is it that he's done for politically if Russia don't take Ukraine ? If Ukraine resist and by some miracle survive, they'd have grounds for reparation surely ?

Men and their fucking willy waving/pissing contests !

Can the West offer a massive bounty on his head (dead only) ?

He's clearly insane at this point ?

What civilised 21st century country allows that sort of thing to continue ? Mind you, where were the believers in the the old tradition of assassinating the president when the US so badly needed it !

BettyBag · 27/02/2022 15:03

Russia using nuclear missiles doesn't mean one bomb in one city. It means hundreds of bombs across all NATO countries. Same vice versa. That's what mutually assured destruction means. Not tit for tat bombs.

The only way you "win" in a nuclear war is to hit as much as you can as fast as you can and hope the other side can't reciprocate fast enough. That's why hypersonic missiles, missiles defence systems and space missiles are such a concern, anything that can hit all targets simultaneously without warning or take down nukes before they hit means that somebody can potentially launch a nuclear attack without reciprocation and ends the concept of mutually assured destruction.

I think I might just buy that Amazon thing I wanted and put it on my credit card.
I'll.maybe not worry too much about paying off in full for the next couple months...

Inthesameboatatmo · 27/02/2022 15:03

I don't honestly think anyone in his inner circle will keep him press the red button. I think they will take him out well before that . It's still very scary though.

Rosebuud · 27/02/2022 15:04

They seem to think that Belarus will join Russia and declare war on the Ukraine too. Which would be awful

The peace talks will be Ukraine meets russias demands, which Ukraine will not do and repeatedly said they won’t.

However the west will be monitoring it very very closely and have a lot of intelligence which is not in the public domain. They want Putin to back down and walk away, I don’t think he will. He needs something to save face.

The west will have covert forces in Russia right now, if it comes to it they will have the ability to take him out and I would bet good money they have that already planned out but will do everything in their power to make him stop first, because no one wants to do that due to the ramifications. It would have to be defensible and very very last resort and only to prevent a very imminent nuclear strike.

I am highly concerned by this escalation. That's putting it mildly.

I see that happening, Belarus' president is also absolutely bonkers.

I think the peace talks will be an assassination. The Ukrainian president won't walk away alive.

@hilbil21

I'm really trying not to be scared but I live a few miles from Faslane naval base. Would there be any point in me travelling to stay with family in England or if he uses nuclear weapons is that basically the end for all of us? (Sorry to be so downbeat)
It doesn't really matter whether you're near Faslane or in the Midlands, if he sets off a nuke there's nowhere you can go, you may as well just get into bed and pull the covers over 🙄
youhadmeatjello · 27/02/2022 15:08

I don’t think the Ukrainian president will go himself

Rosebuud · 27/02/2022 15:09

No that’s not possible it’s not him, he’s not an idiot. It’s a delegation. Of course he’s not come out and meeting them in Belarus.

chairbumg · 27/02/2022 15:10

🤔 Do you think this might not have crossed his mind. Hopefully he's reading MNs so he's got the heads up!
This link is to the video of what Liz Truss actually said. You may as well be mad at Sophie Raworth for asking the question and pressing her on it. FWIW I don’t disagree that Truss is an idiot generally but I actually felt a smidgen of respect for her response on this question tbh, and the only person responsible Putin’s action is Putin.

Ukraine conflict: Liz Truss backs people from UK who want to fight www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60544838
Wholeheartedly agree with this.

Theunamedcat · 27/02/2022 15:11

I'm putting the heating on fuck the bill

Blinkingbatshit · 27/02/2022 15:11

The intention of invading Ukraine was to build a legacy for himself……it’s backfiring badly and is not making him look like the Russian macho hero he was hoping it would (to put it mildly) - as with any despotic cliched baddie he is rattling into madness as he sees his control of the situation diminishing. It is undoubtedly unsettling - the Russian people themselves need to sort this though - fingers crossed there are some still who haven’t been brainwashed!! There is no point panicking about it though - nothing you can personally do except support charities helping Ukrainian refugees👍

keysonthetable · 27/02/2022 15:11

I rather think that Ukrainians would fight on even harder if Putin took out their president.

ofwarren · 27/02/2022 15:11

Anonymous the hackers just put this on twitter

twitter.com/OpsAn0n/status/1497949924784230400?t=jE-UfuNYr-sO7n4Jg_0b9Q&s=19

"After the announcement of
Putin wants to activate his nuclear deterrent. We are going to take another level of cyberattack against the Russian government!"

I wonder what they are going to do?

thegcatsmother · 27/02/2022 15:12

Liz Truss needs to keep on commenting. NATO cannot put boots on the ground in Ukraine, but NATO nations can provide support, with intelligence, weapons and logistics. If Putin isn't stopped now, then where does he go for next? Sweden? Finland (though good luck with that one!)?

I didn't like the attempted murder in Salisbury; I didn't like the Litvenenko assassination. It's about time Putin was shown that he cannot behave as if rules don't exist.

LemonViolet · 27/02/2022 15:12

Zelensky isn’t going to trek up to the border himself. They’ll send someone at a similar rank to whoever the Russian representative is. Which won’t be Putin now will it!

OMG12 · 27/02/2022 15:13

Surely his inner circle isn’t mad enough for nuclear war? They would know the worlds nukes are aimed at them and they would be evaporated too within minutes. I suspect there is a bullet with Putins name on somewhere close, either his own people or special forces.

RunningFromInsanity · 27/02/2022 15:15

Liz Truss really needs to pipe down, someone needs to reign her in asap. Putin specifically mentioned nato leaders making aggressive statements about his country.

What is he going to do? He is not going to do anything to bring a NATO country into this war. Because even he knows he can’t win that.

Part of me wishes Trump was still in charge of America because I would not put it past him to hear Putin say that, and retaliate. He does not like being threatened or having America’s status questioned. He was partial to a few surprise drone strikes.

hilbil21 · 27/02/2022 15:15

@Neenawneenaw76 this is kind of what I want to hear. That we are all in it together and where I live doesn't make me a complete sitting duck lol.

He's not insane, he's reminding the West (and by that I mean you and me and this board) that Russia isn't Iran. They may not be able to bring about effective multinational sanctions but they can make us suffer horribly.

They play to us too you know. The reason the US shared as much intelligence as they did was in a large part for a Russian audience. There own government told them one thing, the US said the opposite and the US was right. It doesn't make for a happy population and public support for a war.

People are happy supporting Ukraine, sending weapons, saying they will fight, flag emojis, refusing to play them in football. Instead make people fearful, make them demand diplomatic solution from their leaders, bring them out on the streets protesting arms sales. It works. Look at this thread.

Also there is a lot of undereporting in the UK about the significance of Germany in this whole thing. Yes the war may not be going as well as hoped (although who knows given that we are now in full war propaganda mode on all sides) but Germany changing tone in the last 24 hours will likely have had a bigger impact. The only time Russia softened its rhetoric was after the German Chancellor visited.
