Is anyone else monitoring the air traffic on FlightRadar24? There was an 8 minute wait to get on to the website!

Lots of military aircraft.

notimagain · 09/03/2022 13:49

Neutral party in all this AFAIK so no reason why they shouldn’t be there.

FatFucker · 09/03/2022 14:23

Brazilian airforce plane over Poland?? Wtf

Why would they be there? Surely there would be better places for them to do exercises!

Is this unusual?

@PestorPeston thank you!

This is the best thread EVER!! ;)

Given some concerns expressed above maybe I can mention that it really isn’t that unusual to have a military aircraft, especially a transport type, fly over or land in countries other than their own.

You’ll find RAF aircraft such as C-130s scattered around the globe at times, similarly USAF C-130s and C-17s, the Russian Air Force transport fleet used to get around as well…

It’s requires something called diplomatic clearance which is usually a formality if whatever is being transported isn’t munitions or something of a lethal nature, so the Brazilian aircraft really is not a big deal.

Tigersonvaseline · 09/03/2022 15:10

Thanks not me , I googled it and its rescuing its citizens.

Ahhh suspect that's why the oligarchs' planes are grounded! Wonder if they got all their dollars and gold out in time!

PestorPeston · 09/03/2022 16:25

Two jets playing chase over Imber Range. Not showing on FlightRadar24

Slingsanderrors · 09/03/2022 17:13

I’m spending way too much time here and on FlightRadar24.
Now looking at a Greek AF aeroplane near Doncaster

HAF356U
That just flew over my house!
Slingsanderrors · 09/03/2022 18:28

@elmfield4 wow!

FatFucker · 09/03/2022 20:26

Can you retroactively look at what's flown over your house or a location?

If it’s still in the air you can click a plane and it will show where it has been, but once it’s landed I don’t think there is.

Use playback mode.

open up FR, centre on your desired location/

Then at bottom of the screen there’s should be a little menu bar, right hand end should be a clock “playback” icon.( I’m using an iPad)

Enter time and date of interest (time in UTC=> GMT=> Uk winter time) when promotes and play.

notimagain · 09/03/2022 20:49

“When prompted”, not “ when promotes.

A US air force plane from Washington landed in Rzeszow a few minutes ago. It was a private jet type aircraft - sorry can't remember what sort. I wonder what that's about.

If you are using Flightradar you’d find the answer using playback mode.

It was a Gulfstream (USAF designation C-37), used for VIP transport.

WoozieFloozie · 10/03/2022 08:27

FORTE10. Has had a long stint over the Black sea. I saw it yesterday and now it looks like it's only just on it's way back.

aldilemonade · 10/03/2022 08:58

LAF100 has just flown right down the whole Latvia/Russian border.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 10/03/2022 11:14

@Tigersonvaseline

Brazil air force??

Over Poland?

Are they a friendly

Maybe they are evacuating Brazilian citizens fleeing Ukraine. There were a lot of South American uni students and footballers.
WeAreTheHeroes · 10/03/2022 12:04

Is FORTE10 keeping an eye on Russian activity in southern Ukraine or protecting civilian aircraft or both do you think?

Gotajobthrunepotism · 11/03/2022 00:09

Anyone noticed that the skies above Romania and Poland look very empty of military aircraft. Is it possible for them to block Flightradar24 tracking them?

The fighters are usually blocked and/or have the transponders used to link with Air Traffic Control turned off when they are in that part of the world, though you can sometimes see them when they are in transit to and from.

Some of the bigger stuff (tankers, transport types and some of the intelligence gathering aircraft ) tend to stay visible, though given the intelligence gathering types are appearing less frequently I suspect even they are now often being blocked by the trackers or choosing to “go dark”.

FWIW any operator can actually choose to not have their flight(s) displayed.
