What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

@NeverDropYourMooncup, now you've suggested that I've realised I know of a few alpaca owners in the wider area.

DH is better at using Google Earth than me, but does not want to go out on a random night drive in the hope of sighting strange creatures.

Such spoilsports. My sister and bestie are the same. I haven't got anyone else to go with. <whines>

You lot are mad! I live on my own - old house, semi- rural, no street lights and have never felt freaked out at all here. But this thread earlier in the year freaked me for the first time ever driving down the lanes at night - no way would I go out looking!

Mind you, those water bottles upthread freaked me out 🤣

I think it’s because I’ve experienced a few “weird” things in the past - am worried I’m too susceptible to stuff if I go actively encouraging it 😱

Overuse of freak in that post - must find another word to use occasionally.

Furries tbh, the real appeal of those places, for me, is the peace. i'd love to live somewhere like you describe...and then if I did live there, it probably wouldn't occur to me to go to exploring.

in fairness, when I've thought of it before this thread, it was mostly in the hope of seeing a badger or something. But this MC Hammer creature really caught my imagination.

It’s weird. I’ve been here around 10 years and have seen one fox - yet used to see plenty from the window of my London flat (I don’t miss their shagging vocals!). Never seen a badger here. Saw my first wild rabbit in the garden a couple of months ago.

However, the variety of birds has been great. I’ve seen kestrels, woodpeckers, sparrow hawks, geese and a crane (along with all the “usual” birds). The other end of the village has a couple of peacocks wandering around. And somewhere across the fields are muntjac deer - they sound really odd at night. Oh, and definitely tawny owls nearby - often hear them, gutted I’ve never seen one.

Ha, had forgotten the MC Hammer reference from when the thread first started. I’ll use that image to calm my nerves when driving down the nearby lanes in the dark!

Just for something to do, we drove out to the location and sat in the lay-by. It’s a lovely clear night. Some faint noises coming from the south, ebbing and flowing like a trumpet call, but from some machine.
Then heard a patter, patter, patter sound which suddenly stopped, that came from behind us. Feeling nervous drive home. Could have been a car in the distance running over catseyes, but didn’t see any. Just got back.

The mind does funny things at night.

Holy Moly!
That’s nuts!
Once years ago a Lurcher we owned growled softly and stared at the ceiling-
i looked up and saw the silhouette 👤 of a man.
It made me jump- but was a scarf draped over a Victorian brass bedknob that had a shadow cast by a new bedside lamp.
when I sat on the bed, the “ Head and shoulders” of the shadow moved.

Pic of bedknob shadow now ( same room, different lamp)
It looked much sharper before, and scarier for dog.

What did we see last night..?

You could check for catseyes on Google earth or maps?
If there are any, that could explain it.

Otherwise??
Would have to be a big animal to chase a car that audibly..

The pattering noise was heard from behind us when we we’re parked up with engine off. We were not travelling then. It was either a soft noise close to us or a loud noise very far away. Can’t work out which, but didn’t see another car.

I wasn't scared of what this post is about it was just 2am ish in the middle of a storm on my own I felt alot more vulnerable than I would any other time and my imagination goes wild. It was very dark as the yard wasn't lit and the fields were dark. Didn't see anything exciting x

My son is a fully grown strong six foot plus man now- but he rented a Workshop on an unlit farm unit - ( Electrics were inside one of the neighbouring barns)
One Christmas Eve he had to go there after dark and said “ Do you fancy coming along, mum ?
In the wind it can be creepy there-
stuff clanging about- and raking headlights could just catch - what? legs? A Chimera?
He admitted to imaginings- Just having another person there makes it less creepy after dark.

Getting anthracite as a 10 yr old from bunker at end of garden after dark scared me-

Imaginings can be scarier than reality.

Oh my goodness 😳!
That sounds much more alarming 😂

Yeah, but if you drive off saying it must have been another car in the distance somewhere, thinking about kittens or waves crashing on the seashore it’s not too bad. 😂

No. If it is the same place then the past owners is what I am talking about. You may not even know them, before your time perhaps. It is a horror story in itself. Not for here though as it is side tracking but also not safe for MN. Nothing to do with the goat man beast thing, other than coincidentally in the same location.

Bad owners of a Yard? Supernatural or human ?
My curiosity is piqued now.

Our Dog came via someone who said she “ Lets her dogs do the interviewing “ when looking to see if someone is OK or not.

She said one of hers would not go near a man or let him touch her- She thought it odd, Despite man having the same type of dog.

A short time later, he was done for murder or manslaughter in Lockdown.
Sometimes animals can tell if something is “ Off” with a person.

Do not want to say much about the yard. The owners moved on some time ago, but lots of bad luck happened to them and the place.

I'm losing it ...

Alpaca with dreads (unshorn as they would be in Winter)

Alpaca with two colours in fleece (shorn)

Alpaca on hind legs

Average height of an Alpaca to withers - 89-99cm (up to about three foot). Length of an Alpaca - 120-255cm (four to seven foot).

Estimated height of an Alpaca on its hind legs - about six foot.

Llamas - less likely but still possible - weird postures and long, hare like ears. Also larger than Alpaca.

When you're not used to seeing them (because you live in the UK) - they all look weird.

Sorry, @Laiste , the area you describe is absolutely infested with Alpaca farms - including the glamping site.

Maybe I should dye my hair red and start wearing black skirt suits like Scully.

A loose, straying Alpaca looks like it could indeed be the ''Goatman''.

Always a prosaic explanation.

Not totally conclusive though and unproven. Could be a giant alpaca-eating chupacabra.
