What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

If you click on the photo it shows you it's just a shadow of a water bottle. It's cropped in a really awful way for the preview!

JaneJeffer · 23/09/2022 10:20

Oops Grin

Furries · 23/09/2022 12:30

Ah, ok! I didn’t open the photo as it creeped me out (bit like how I quickly scroll past photos of spiders) 😂

I remember this thread. Didn't realise there was an article on it..the mumsnet goat man..love it!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 23/09/2022 13:12

Off topic but I thought this thread, which I remember really enjoying, was from much longer ago than February! Bit freaked out that my sense of time is so distorted 😣

Furries · 23/09/2022 13:34

@LemonJuiceFromConcentrate - maybe the Goatman secretly took away your perception of time 🤣. I’m thinking he did the same thing with me as I don’t remember it being as far back as February.

OMG this is spooky. I had not heard of this thread before, but live within a mile of that exact piece of road. On Monday night around 7pm I travelled westwards and after the layby on the right there is a wide piece of grass verge. Something was standing on its hind legs and I accelerated away. It was long and thin.

Oh wow! Seriously? You wouldn't kid me about such great stuff?

I still want an MN trip to this area. I love the idea of undiscovered animals, undiscovered by humans anyway.

I drive this route alot. Just come through it this evening. Never have seen anything but we used to keep our horses down the road from there and one night a few years back I was storming so I went to check on them in the early hours. I will never do that again 🤣 I'd also had a migraine that night which turned into vomiting all.over myself in the car as I was too scared to get out and be sick 😫 The horses were perfectly happy though 🤣

WingingItSince1973 · 23/09/2022 20:22

it was storming not I 🤣 We had a family business down the road from there too. Nothing untoward seen xxx

EmmaH2022 · 23/09/2022 20:38

Winging sorry, you were scared because..? I thought you meant scared of the storm but then you said you'd never go back at night?

I wasn't scared of what this post is about it was just 2am ish in the middle of a storm on my own I felt alot more vulnerable than I would any other time and my imagination goes wild. It was very dark as the yard wasn't lit and the fields were dark. Didn't see anything exciting x

Oh I see
I just thought you maybe got bad feeling

in theory, I'd love to live in a place like the area here, but in practice, I live alone so it might be scary. When I'm away in the country, if I can see dark fields or roads, I love it, but I generally go with my sister who flatly refuses to go for a night walk in such places.

Can I PM you re the yard? It might be the one I see opposite me. If so, it has a dark history of occupation.

As in, occupied during war?

JaneJeffer · 23/09/2022 21:45

I don't think so @EmmaH2022 !

Qisk · 23/09/2022 21:56

No. If it is the same place then the past owners is what I am talking about. You may not even know them, before your time perhaps. It is a horror story in itself. Not for here though as it is side tracking but also not safe for MN. Nothing to do with the goat man beast thing, other than coincidentally in the same location.

EmmaH2022 · 23/09/2022 21:59

Qisk you can DM me!

war occupation stories can be pretty terrible too. I've still not recovered from a scene in the film Cold Mountain, though the book is brill.

one flat I lived in had previously been exorcised by someone - I don't think a priest - who said it was haunted by the ghosts of bees and butterflies. That was new to me but the previous owner, a very down to earth lady, took it very seriously.

Anyone else think @Qisk has to tell us more now and not leave us hanging?😅

At least an outline if things, maybe change names etc

I'm loving this thread (and trying to figure out how to use Google Earth so I can locate the exact spot) I think I mentioned up thread I live not that far from the sighting and have thought about this "Shuck" when we've driven nearby, but I can't figure out the exact location.

I'd probably look for the nearest farm to the village where they've got a couple of Alpaca/Vicuna in their flocks.

I've loved reading this thread and nominated it for Classics. Would hate for it to disappear into the Upside Down......

Definitely one for Classics, it would be very sad if it went. There's some great folklore in here.

LynetteScavo · 24/09/2022 21:55

@NeverDropYourMooncup, now you've suggested that I've realised I know of a few alpaca owners in the wider area.

DH is better at using Google Earth than me, but does not want to go out on a random night drive in the hope of sighting strange creatures.

Such spoilsports. My sister and bestie are the same. I haven't got anyone else to go with. <whines>
