So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

Good idea for a thread!

Just been out for some shopping and Asda is on the edge of the water with the flight path in to landing in to EDI right in front of it. There was an easyJet that looked like it was just suspended in the air not going anywhere. Never seen that before but the previous LHR took an age to go on when it did eventually land too

During the last storm I witnessed a plane on it’s descent into ABZ suddenly start to climb - circled once then according to FR diverted to EDI.

Crazykatie · 16/02/2022 17:15

Watched one last storm trying to land a Manchester after 3 attempts it went to Frankfurt!.

Airliners have a strict limit for turbulent weather and carry extra fuel for diversions.

Yeh I've seen several attempts before then diversions. Must be terrifying for the passengers. I wonder if when this gets properly going though if they'll just automatically divert. Apparently the north is going to be less affected than the central belt

Ooooo. Interesting.

thisislove · 16/02/2022 17:34

I had an aborted landing coming into Bangkok several years ago and an aborted take off coming out of Zante 3 years ago. The aborted take off was worse.

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2022 17:38

So naughty - I'm now wasting my time looking at a Lufthansa flight into Birmingham from Frankfurt, got down to about 2,500 and is now flying over Sutton Coldfield after an aborted landing. Very windy here. Poor passengers.

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2022 17:42

And another - Ryanair Dublin to Birmingham just aborted their landing after getting down to 2,000 ft. I'm way too interested in this! Grin

ajandjjmum · 16/02/2022 17:49

Look like Birmingham is turning away flights - one from Fuertaventura heading west, and the Frankfurt and Dublin ones heading South.

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/02/2022 17:51

Stop it! I’m about to get onto a flight. How long is it supposed to last?

liveforsummer · 16/02/2022 17:54

Where are you flying to/from? This storm due to its shape is not going to affect the whole uk.

From Mexico into Manchester..

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/02/2022 18:03

Land early tomorrow morning v so I’m hoping it will have passed

JuergenSchwarzwald · 16/02/2022 18:06

You should be ok tomorrow morning - we have a window of a day or so before the next (worse) storm hits.

doradoo · 16/02/2022 18:08

Not looking good - I've a friend flying home from BHX to DUS this evening- not looking hopeful I think

Snowpatrolling · 16/02/2022 18:10

TomAllenWife · 16/02/2022 18:14

Holothane · 16/02/2022 18:14

Love this app off for a nose.

According to the Facebook weather man I follow it can't be tracked yet as hasn't formed. Friday is being mentioned but no idea when or where it will be worst
OP posts:
liveforsummer · 16/02/2022 18:17

Also @TomAllenWife assume tire going to Tenerife from that airport code. I think you'll be fine, heading out of it and not sure if the worst will go as far south as Bristol anyway

OP posts:
TomAllenWife · 16/02/2022 18:19

Yay Smile as long as the turbulence doesn't spill my drink Grin

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 16/02/2022 18:19

How can you tell which flights are being turned away or sent to other airports? DS is due to fly home on a 4pm flight from SOU on Friday and the forecast for wind at that time is not good :( Don't know what else to do, other than tell him to go to the airport and hope.
