So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

No joke being on a plane right now. I was on one many years ago, didn't realise we were landing in a storm, all I could see was the fact we weren't going down on the runway and terminal buildings fast approaching. To his credit pilot go the plane down, but we were all thrust forward in our seats. My parents watched us land, and said many other had to abort and climb again.

I love flightradar24!

Have any of you been watching the flights around Antarctica these last couple of weeks? I think they may be connected with trying to look for Shackleton's boat.

ponkydonkey · 16/02/2022 19:15

The bins are down and the chimney is howling... west of London... I'll go and check my flimsy fence in a min

I live very close to leeds Bradford airport. It’s windy and there is a Tenerife flight trying to land

Nice!

In Windy we trust Wink

Yep..

LBA, another airport like Brum that has an almost north/south aligned runway. They've had gusts out of the west of up to 45 knots (over 50 MPH) in the last hour so I'm not surprised they are having a bit of difficulty, the wind is probably well above their crosswind limit.

Leeds Bradford is our local airport, but it always seems to be blowing a gale there, whatever the weather!
ethelredonagoodday · 16/02/2022 19:28

*superfluous 'but' in my post...

GreenWords · 16/02/2022 19:32

How many attempts do they try? Just going for the 4th at Leeds

Fifth go Shock

It's blowing so much of a gale tonight it's distorting that aircraft's hold (it's not a nice symmettrical oval), and it looks like they climbed up a few minutes ago...wonder if that was to try and get into some smoother air..

Good night to be on the ground.

titchy · 16/02/2022 19:38

Looks like it's giving up and going to Manchester!

Violetmo0n · 16/02/2022 19:38

Leeds is aborted

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 16/02/2022 19:39

Tenerife - Leeds is climbing again. I’ve been on a flight that couldn’t land due to horrific weather on more than one occasion. The anxiety definitely increases.

notimagain · 16/02/2022 19:39

'Fifth go'

Don't think it's a fifth go qt an approach, looks to me like they've had one go, went around (the ground track for that is the tight teardrop pattern to the west of the airport).. since then they have been going around the anti-clockwise hold at medium altitude to the north east of the airport, presumably hoping for the wind to drop

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 16/02/2022 19:39

Appears they’re off to Manchester now!

Violetmo0n · 16/02/2022 19:39

Flight into Newcastle having a second go.

greengraydoor · 16/02/2022 19:41

LCY to GLA going for a second try landing.

Ah good to know!

I just had a look at Leeds arrival board - the earlier flight from Belfast was diverted - back to Belfast 🤦‍♀️

You can tell when they have attempted landing as the line goes yellow from green when the altitude goes that low. The tracking has been odd tonight though and parts seem to be disappearing

Poor passengers. We were diverted once due to bad weather. We can see our house as we come into land so was slightly annoying to have to be coached back from Newcastle!

greengraydoor · 16/02/2022 19:46

LGW to GLA easy jet was trying to land but it’s given up. Not sure where it’s off to as GLA has gone and it now says N/A.

Following that now. Not seen that before and doesn't seem to be heading anywhere obvious. So scary for passengers and any family etc watching. Glad to hear from a pp that the add extra fuel when knowing there is a storm as I know budget airlines generally fly with as little as they think they can get away with
