So we've got Dudley today and tomorrow and Eunice on Friday so thought I'd start a thread. Dudley has barely hit here in Edinburgh and already there's a flight from LHR struggling to land.

Dublin-Leeds is heading back west now.

sparklecrazy · 16/02/2022 21:00

I'm Not far from Leeds Bradford either, it is pretty bad here.

QueenOfThorns · 16/02/2022 21:01

@GracieLouFreeebush

Geneva to Manchester went back up at about 700 foot
I’m getting so obsessed with this that I ran into the kitchen earlier to watch it go over … I guess I’ll be getting a second look!

I’m entertained watching this but I’m worried about the hours of life I’m going to lose.

In my 15 minutes of experience I was watching the Geneva to Manchester thinking, you’re too high to be that close surely? Maybe I should retrain?

comfortablyfrumpy · 16/02/2022 21:02

Is the Leeds one diverting, or coming in another way (I know nothing about planes).

GracieLouFreeebush · 16/02/2022 21:02

Do we think Dublin to Manchester will do it?

CharlieLo · 16/02/2022 21:02

Watching the Dublin to Manchester one now to see if it makes it

Pinotpleasure · 16/02/2022 21:03

Ryanair 156 DUB - LBA has given up and heading north west (and climbing)

ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 21:04

Gawd, Geneva - Man just flew over my house…

Perhaps it's trying for Manchester?
GreenWords · 16/02/2022 21:05

I was confused with the Dublin leeds flight because it didn’t look to get anywhere near the airport - unless I’m looking at it wrong

ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 21:07

Looks like Philly- East Mids has had to circle.

QueenOfThorns · 16/02/2022 21:07

Dublin-Leeds currently the second most tracked flight worldwide. It’s all the Mumsnetters!

GracieLouFreeebush · 16/02/2022 21:08

Dub-lba maybe going for Liverpool?

titchy · 16/02/2022 21:08

For those still interested in Leeds/Birmingham and what is going on, the key is the combination of the runway direction and the wind direction...General principle here is a very strong wind blowing along the runway is not a big problem, but blowing across it can be a big problem.

So, Leeds...Last reported wind at 2020 hours was 260 degrees 32 knots Gusting 49 knots

(roughly west, 34 mph, gusts to 54 mph) given the runway direction that is all across. That'll be outside limits for most airliners..

Birmingham..a bit better, at 2020 hours, 270 degrees 18 knots Gusts 30 to knots ( 20 mph, gusts to 33 mph)...

Again the runway direction means that's almost all crosswind, possibly OK if the runway is dry but not if the runway is wet because that lowers the limit.

HTH.

GreenWords · 16/02/2022 21:09

I wonder if it will go back like the Belfast flights earlier?

cheekychaplin · 16/02/2022 21:10

It was just in a holding pattern, waiting for a drop in wind speed no doubt.
ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 21:10

@notimagain am I making this up or is Leeds Bradford also on a slope?!

ShavingTheBadger · 16/02/2022 21:12

Philly-East Mids circling again…

twilightcafe · 16/02/2022 21:13

Dub-lba is now the most-tracked flight- 6816 watchers worldwide

gelatogina · 16/02/2022 21:14

Those tiny little private jets as well, imagine how they blow around in this weather

GracieLouFreeebush · 16/02/2022 21:15

Geneva - Manc has gone up again!

comfortablyfrumpy · 16/02/2022 21:15

Geneva Manchester has aborted again.
Bigger plane behind, wonder if that will manage ?

NoWordForFluffy · 16/02/2022 21:15

Geneva just failed at Manchester again! Those poor people on board!
