Do you listen to the radio?

I never do. Wonder if I should.
If you do listen, which station do you listen to? How do you listen to it (what kind of device/app)?
What time do you listen? Any particular time of day and why?

In the week, Radio 4 when I get up, James O’Brien on LBC from 10 and then usually switch back over to R4 at 1pm. Eddie Mair on LBC at 4 and flick between him and Today on R4 after 5. A bit of Iain Dale while I’m cooking from 7pm on LBC and Tom Swarbrick before bed (or Today in Westminster on R4). Always listen to Nick Abbott 10pm-1am Fri-Sun on LBC. In the gaps I listen to stuff on Global Player and BBC Sounds.

Weekends just the apps really aside from the morning show on R4 on a Saturday and maybe a bit of David Lammy on LBC which is mid afternoon on a Saturday. Radio is generally otherwise pretty rubbish.

dontcallmelen · 14/02/2022 15:02

Davros totally agree BBC radio London ruined now that Robert Elms no longer on most of the week, also miss Jo Goode in the afternoon.
I switch between Radio London/LBC/Radio 4 occasionally R2 always have the radio on when I’m at home, much rather radio than TV.

Whenever I am in the kitchen, if I am not listening to music or a podcast, I have the digital radio on. Radio 4 default, but if it is a particularly strident Today interview or a particularly boring edition of You and Yours, I might switch to Radio 2 or Absolute or Heart. If I am feeling like I don't want to engage with the world it will be Classic FM. And if there's an ongoing news story I want to follow, it will be 5 Live.

If I turn on Radio 4 and it is in the middle of something interesting I might start it from the beginning on BBC Sounds on my iPad. If it is in the middle of something boring I might look at the schedule and play something from earlier in the day or from the day before - the News Quiz, the Unbelievable Truth, Dead Ringers, or something.

Radio 4 for a short time every morning. I can't take too much of the Today programme for the sake of my blood pressure.

Radio 3 afterwards. I love Radio 3. Beautiful music, not too much talk in between times.

Radio 4 for a bit at lunchtimes.

Never miss The Archers, although usually on catch up now.

More or Less is excellent and I often catch the obituary programme on Fridays.

Rina66 · 14/02/2022 15:21

Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Chris Evans
Then Radio 2 Jeremy Vine phone in at 12, then stay on Radio 2 for Steve Wright in the afternoon.
If I can't get into the phone in, then it's Magic Soul!

wendz86 · 14/02/2022 15:25

Normally listen to heart on way to and from dropping / picking kids up . Listen to smooth while i am working at home and not in meetings .

MotherofHeathens · 14/02/2022 15:31

Radio 2 in the car for morning commute, usually Radio 4 in the afternoon, but my car radio won't tune to it at the moment so I'm stuck with Steve Wright.

At home it's usually 6 Music - if I had a fancier car with a DAB radio then I'd have it on all the time. Though I do like Radio 2 in the evenings sometimes.

pitterpatterrain · 14/02/2022 15:33

Wake up to money on radio 5 via the app
But usually later than when it goes out live Grin

FunkyPhantom · 14/02/2022 15:34

Depends where I'm working and who's in first 😄😄

If it's me, I'll either go Radio X, Planet Rock or Radio 2.

Monday to Friday though everything stops for Popmaster on Radio 2, it's the law 😄😄👍

RagzRebooted · 14/02/2022 15:34

BBC radio 2 on all day here, occasionally absolute radio 70s if Radio 2 is being shit (Elaine Paige!). I sometimes have radio 4 on in the car, but usually it's 2. Listened to LBC a bit during the beginning of the pandemic or any political drama.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 14/02/2022 15:42

Local radio or bbc radio 2 in the car

Generally listen to amazon music on alexa at home but sometimes local radio.

Kids listen to funkids radio on alexa in their rooms

wordlehurdle · 14/02/2022 15:46

Da rod and dontcallmelen
I know I'm a community nurse so the radio has been a huge part of my life.'it's got me through some really upsetting times.
I love Ken Bruce and used to love Robert elms even jo good although irritating was still entertaining.
I find radio two much better at the weekends Micheal ball is great so is Rylan and Lisa Tarbick.
I also have a real soft spot for Elaine Page. If me and my husband have been away and are driving back on a Sunday we also listen to sounds of the 70's and kid ourselves that we are so much younger than the people making the requests.
I love the radio

IntermittentParps · 14/02/2022 15:46

Sort of. I have 6Music on all day in my office at home, but very quietly as I read a lot for work and too loud is distracting. At weekends it's on in the kitchen/diner and is more audible.
Radio 4 sometimes, but I or someone else usually switches it off with an expletive when something really dull or really depressing comes on, which seems to happen a lot.
And radio stations from around the world, selected at random. There's a good Ghanaian one and some good Latin American ones, but reception can be iffy.
I'd like to actually listen properly sometimes, but I can't work and listen and I can't really make it fit into my life at other times. I love it in the background for company though.

TheDogsMother · 14/02/2022 15:48

Radio 2 all day until 7pm

FionnulaTheCooler · 14/02/2022 15:49

Local radio station in the car. I sometimes have Absolute 90s on at home through my sky box if I fancy a bit of background music.

NeedToKnow101 · 14/02/2022 15:55

Yeah Radio 4 or 6 Music mainly. Just at home or driving.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 14/02/2022 16:00

Absolute Radio all day on my laptop or mobile.

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 14/02/2022 16:03

Radio 2 always on in the kitchen as company. And Radio Norfolk at 9.30 on a Sunday to see what Chris is up to on High Ash Farm. He recorded a starling impersonating his voice the other day!

SpiderVersed · 14/02/2022 16:07

Not any more. I just use the Sounds app on my phone when I want something specific (Usually More Or Less and The Archers)

JerkintheMerkin · 14/02/2022 16:11

I put the smart speaker on before the kettle. Ask it to play the first radio station that enters my head. Stays on all day until me and DD go to bed. Music is a constant in our house.

Chishnfips · 14/02/2022 16:12

6Music is always on in the kitchen. Radio 2 in the car because I don't have dab in the car. Never play radio when working though, thats always just intrustmental background noise. I can't deal with chatter when I'm trying to concentrate.

Bouledeneige · 14/02/2022 16:14

Radio 4 mostly but also Radio 2, 6 or 1 when I'm in the car. I listen when I'm cleaning or cooking in the kitchen and sometimes in breaks from work.

hisnameisfreckles · 14/02/2022 16:17

Yep listening right now to absolute 70's but also do 80's

SweetestThing · 14/02/2022 16:19

Radio 4 in the kitchen when making dinner and at the weekend when pottering around/having breakfast. Classic FM in the car. Radio 2, 4 or 5 live in DH's car but I have passenger station-changing rights. And driver-changing rights if I'm driving his car too, obviously.

downtonupton · 14/02/2022 16:24

a mix of Radio 5, Radio 6 and Absolute - depending on who is least annoying at the time - sometimes Radio 4 when R5 is being sporty

I like the chatter on Radio 5 n the day, it's like having colleagues while working from hime.
