Do you listen to the radio?

I never do. Wonder if I should.
If you do listen, which station do you listen to? How do you listen to it (what kind of device/app)?
What time do you listen? Any particular time of day and why?

Virgin in our bedroom and kitchen 7-school run
Capital in car until I've dropped daughter, then virgin

chipsandpeas · 14/02/2022 13:23

only in short journeys in the car

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 14/02/2022 13:23

Radio is on all day here too. Radio X mainly, with some R2, R4, Greatest Hits (love Simon Mayo) and BBC London.

Yes daily on a digital radio in my kitchen. Switch between radio 2, absolute, Radio x and abs 80's depending on day/times. I like the radio when I'm cooking/washing up. Also have digital radio in my car.
The radio actually got my through lockdown and I've carried on listening to it. Something nostalgic about radio I love.

Classica · 14/02/2022 13:24

The only station I really listen to is Fip. Great music, no chat. Can't stand radio type prattle.

ArtemisDarling · 14/02/2022 13:25

In the car (school run plus my work commute takes up just shy of 3 hours a day) I listen to radio 4 when just me and our local radio music and chat station with the Dcs.

Radio 4 and Classic FM in the kitchen.

Classic FM I love when they do the regular of the top 300 classic FM tracks (voted for every year). That is from 9-12 and 3-330 when I am out and about.

For Radio 4 I love PM on at 5 pm. I like the consumer affairs show You and Yours (12.15) and I love some of the regular programmes particularly More Or Less which gives the through behind dodgy reported statistics. I abandoned Womans Hour for a while but went back to it recently.

MondeoFan · 14/02/2022 13:27

Absolute 80's on a Sunday between 4-8pm is a must.

Radio 2 in the mornings and definitely on a Saturday between 1-3pm for the chart show. They choose 2 years and play the songs from it.

Radio X especially on a Friday morning

Monday - Thursday switch between stations

thecatneuterer · 14/02/2022 13:28

I have the radio on nearly all day (and for some of the night when I listen on BBC Sounds to things I might have missed). Radio 4. But I just can't bear The Archers so have to switch it off when that comes on.

thecatneuterer · 14/02/2022 13:30

Oh and I listen on all sorts of devices. I have a couple of DAB radios, normal car radio, and I listen on my Ipad, sometimes on my phone, sometimes even through the TV

FourChimneys · 14/02/2022 13:31

Radio 4 and Radio 3 mostly. Occasionally the local BBC station but muted for the pop songs.

AdoptedBumpkin · 14/02/2022 13:33

I generally listen a few times a week, especially when chilling or cleaning at home. I mostly listen via Radioplayer app. Lately I've been listening to my local BBC station and Radio 2. I've also discovered a community station I quite like.

DPotter · 14/02/2022 13:34

It's Radio 4 for me, plus BBC Sounds too. Can't work to music so it's on when I'm in my studio. Also when I'm in the car, although I also have an ipod too.
DP is a Radio 6 Music fan so that's on in the kitchen
couldn't be without my radio.

What do you like Blacksheep ?

There are great documentaries, plays, books, quiz programmes as well as current affairs. I like a wide range of stuff - things like
The Infinite Monkey Cage for light hearted approach to science,
The Bottom Line for indepth look at business
The Media Show is good - really good explanation recently on why the Govt can't just pull the plug on the licence fee
Loved the Film programme before it was axed - yes I'm still annoyed BBC
Desert Island Disc is good too.
Then there one off plays and series - Pilgrim is a standout for me

And for night owls like me - there's the World Service which takes over late night, after the national Anthem is played!

Give it a try

SweetPotatoDumpling · 14/02/2022 13:37

First thing I do in the morning (actually my alarm is set to Radio 2!)

I listen to the radio whenever I'm home or driving...it's on all of the time. I prefer it to the TV. I have an Alexa in most rooms, but only one small TV in my living room. Never had TVs anywhere else in the house , even when my children lived at home 🤣

When I'm cooking, the radio is on.

Cleaning...radio

Working...marking books/planning lessons...radio.

I don't know how you can't have it in your life OP!

DPotter · 14/02/2022 13:38

Forgot to say - we have a radio in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, my studio, living room, downstairs loo. and several of them will be on at the same time, so I can walk between rooms and not miss something.

Also listen on my ipad for BBC sounds and pods casts

DPotter · 14/02/2022 13:39

As my Mum used to say, although I'm sure she got this from someone else
the pictures are so much better on the radio

MadeinSW3 · 14/02/2022 13:41

Yes LBC all day in the kitchen. Radio 1 in car.

Davros · 14/02/2022 13:42

Radio 4
Magic Soul
Jazz FM
Radio 6
Radio 3
I used to listen to Robert Elms on Radio London avidly but they've changed the schedule and ruined it

Snozzlemaid · 14/02/2022 13:42

Now I'm working from home I have the radio on all the time.

Radio X every morning and different local ones in the afternoon.

TeenPlusCat · 14/02/2022 13:48

Radio 4 by preference.
If in the car with DD it will be Capital.
If in the car and the R4 programme is not to taste (Count Arthur Strong or The Food Programme) then either Radio Solent or a CD.

R4:

  • the quizzes & comedies
  • drama
  • more or less
  • life scientific
  • from our own correspondent
  • the Archers Archers
MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 14/02/2022 13:48

I love sport so 5live, except for the awful chat shows. The Drive programme is good, I love Tony Livsey.

ThreeRingCircus · 14/02/2022 13:48

Radio 2 in the car, will sometimes switch to Radio 1 depending on what is playing. I feel a bit stuck for radio stations for music as Radio 1 often feels like it's aimed at 15 year olds and a lot of it is really irritating but Radio 2 can be a bit old school for me too. Ideally I'd like a real mix of new music and music from all decades.

I listen to LBC via my Alexa in the kitchen if I'm sat on my own eating lunch or if I'm cooking.

sluj · 14/02/2022 13:50

I listen to Boom Radio, it's a new station which I can get on my car and Alexa. Its full of old radio presenters from the past and is everything from the 50s to the 80s pretty much. It's aimed at Baby Boomers, which I am not, but it's the perfect mix of my music and the music my mum played when I was a child. Everything from Johnny Mathis to the Smiths.
Other than that, selected Radio2 and 4 programmes plus Classic FM. Wfh, I use the radio 1000 times more than I used to

insertsomethingwitty · 14/02/2022 13:50

Only when I'm in the car and I listen to Planet Rock

Jellycatspyjamas · 14/02/2022 13:51

Radio 2 is on in the kitchen all day - I like the background noise when I’m home alone and the kids like having music on in the house.

VariationsonaTheme · 14/02/2022 13:55

Usually Radio X, occasionally R2 for Sara Cox, or Heart/Capital if the kids are in the car.
