Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

@Viviennemary

Its a disgrace. We were told she would not be Queen. More backpeddling. Sick of the lot of them.
She was always going to be queen. The only question was to whether or not she would publicly use the title. Just as she is now Princess of Wales but does not use that title. "Princess Consort" is a silly title so I think it's good this has been cleared up.

Exactly.

I can't understand why people are frothing about this.

Because Andrew apparently. And/or Diana?

I don't get it either.

cuparfull · 05/02/2022 22:59

UGH Dreadful woman!

MsFogi · 05/02/2022 22:59

It is simply to deflect attention from Andrew, yet again.

MissCordeliaPreston · 05/02/2022 22:59

Who cares?

She has been Princess of Wales since she married Charles. She just chose to not use that title.

If we are going to keep a monarchy then when Charles becomes King, Camilla will be Queen Consort. By law and precedent.

As Kate will be Queen Consort.

One day people will realise how ridiculous these arguments are. They are just people.

Thesearmsofmine · 05/02/2022 23:00

Good. I find her fairly likeable, have heard her speak about a number of her causes including domestic abuse and she came across very well.

Some people will always hate her because they hold Diana up as some kind of amazing woman but she was no angel and it is very easy to hold someone in high esteem when they are no longer around.

Marcipex · 05/02/2022 23:00

I suppose Camilla and Anne are the least-worst.

Figgit · 05/02/2022 23:00

Who cares. It’s all so bloody anachronistic. Off with their heads. The whole leeching lot of them.

JudgeJ · 05/02/2022 23:01

@HerculesMulligan

This is the typical time of the week for a Sunday paper exclusive to break. Surprised this is the moment the Palace has chosen.
In time for the Sunday papers on the 70th Anniversary of her accession, and it's a good time to make Camilla's position. Maybe it's also a gentle way of saying that he is likely to become King in the near future.
Lolliepoppie · 05/02/2022 23:02

Its difficult, I can only really judge her on how she has behaved since she entered public life. Anything else is just gossip and speculation.

I do think she has done a stellar job supporting Charles and the monarchy and the causes she believes in.

I also literally bumped into her once (before her marriage) when out with my baby son and she couldn’t have been more lovely.

ClariceQuiff · 05/02/2022 23:03

Came on to say this exact thing. The question was only ever how she would style herself, not whether or not she would be Queen.

I'm a republican so I hope the RF won't last forever. But Camilla is far from the worst of the Royals. At least she doesn't pretend to be anything she's not. If we have to have a King and Queen at all, I'm fine with Camilla taking the style.

Pyriah · 05/02/2022 23:05

Actually when they were permitted to marry I’m sure they said she would never be queen. They weren’t even allowed to marry in church, they had to go to a register office. Now they’re trying to break that promise to the public and make her queen. It’s shocking.

Imissmoominmama · 05/02/2022 23:06

@MyDcAreMarvel- most of them are.

HelloFrostyMorning · 05/02/2022 23:06

No.

Me too. I'm not a royalist, but I do respect the stoic way in which Camilla put up with years of abuse. She had bread rolls thrown at her in the supermarket, got called all sorts of names, and just got on with it. She also does a lot of excellent, unglamorous work for very deserving and not necessarily 'fashionable' charities.
VaulterTech · 05/02/2022 23:08

I think it’s great. She’s the most relatable one of all of them.

When? I can't remember ever being told that.

Nothing was ever 'promised' about her future style - it was all just press speculation.

The not marrying in church was because Camilla's ex-husband was still living - it was (perhaps still is?) common for CofE to refuse a church marriage in that scenario, whether for Royals or not.

There would be more to complain about IMO if the rules had been bent for Charles & Camilla (his mum being head of the CofE, she could probably have insisted on them being allowed to marry in church) where they wouldn't for the average divorcee on the street.

LawnFever · 05/02/2022 23:10

@supercalifragilistic123

But why announce it now? At 10pm on a Saturday!
Because this has also just been announced?

No, they didn't say that.

The issue around marrying in church was purely a religious one, nothing to do with the monarchy.

DappledThings · 05/02/2022 23:11

It’s shocking
It really isn't

VodselForDinner · 05/02/2022 23:11

Does anyone know what happens if she outlived Charles?

William will become King. If Charles had still been married to Diana she’d have gone from Queen (Consort) Diana to what- The King Mother?

So what would Camilla be?

Benjispruce5 · 05/02/2022 23:12

Not in my mind she won’t!

JenniferWildlay · 05/02/2022 23:12

Gift the whole family to Scotland. Then call the referendum.
