Camilla to be Queen

I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

And I don’t mind either way personally I should asd

DePfeffoff · 05/02/2022 23:23

@Benjispruce5

Not in my mind she won’t!
No doubt at this very moment the Queen is saying "Time for a U-turn, Benjispruce5's mind can't cope with it"

Alternatively, of course, she doesn't give a rat's arse what Benjispruce5 thinks.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 05/02/2022 23:23

Seems only right, and makes sense for the Queen to make her wishes clear in advance. Charles and Diana separated before I was born so I don’t have any beef with Camilla!

toppkatz · 05/02/2022 23:23

@supercalifragilistic123

But why announce it now? At 10pm on a Saturday!
Er - you do know what day it is tomorrow? It's the 70th anniversary of when she woke up in the morning to be told that her father was dead, and she had become Queen overnight.
LittleMissPerfect28 · 05/02/2022 23:23

@IcedPurple @amusedbush
Thank you

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 23:24

@WitchWithoutChips

Yep, it's her Diamond Jubilee this year. We're getting an extra Bank Holiday. Bet the people wishing they'd sod off will all be going into work as normal.

Platinum - 70 years. Her diamond jubilee was in 2012.

Plenty will sneer but we’ll never see another one.

Yes, I did mean Platinum. Sorry about that. Sad But it's 70 years whatever and that does deserve the extra Bank Holiday which I am sure all the people frothing will gladly enjoy.
ClariceQuiff · 05/02/2022 23:24

Off topic but does anyone else find the word 'Queen' starts to look really silly when you see it in post after post?

amusedbush · 05/02/2022 23:25

@Pyriah

Why on earth not? Because she’s super unpopular and part of the arrangement when they married was she would never be queen. They’ve lied to the public.
Who cares? And if you care - why?? It shouldn't even register as an irritation in your life.
Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 23:26

Yes, but Andrew remember. Hmm

Cameleongirl · 05/02/2022 23:26

I think it’s non-news at this point. She’s nearly 75 and they’ve been married for 17 years, far longer than Charles was married to Diana. If William was very against it he might try to do something, but he may feel it’s pointless so long after Diana’s death. It wouldn’t change the past.

Aposterhasnoname · 05/02/2022 23:26

@Pyriah

Disgusting. I would vote for a republic long before I accept Camilla as Queen of England.
Aw Bless! You don’t get to vote for the monarchy. That’s not how it works.

Some people seem to be taking this as a personal affront!

PlanetNormal · 05/02/2022 23:27

@LittleMissPerfect28

Nothing against Camilla but I don't understand why the Queen names Camilla as future Queen but yet her own husband only had the title of prince?

This makes no sense to me?

It’s confusing, because there are two types of Queen and only one type of King.

The two types of Queen are Queen regent, the actual monarch, eg the current Queen Elizabeth II and Queen consort, the wife of the King, eg her mother who was also called Queen Elizabeth and became the Queen Mother when her husband King George VI died.

The King is always the actual monarch. There is no such thing as a King consort.

LuluBlakey1 · 05/02/2022 23:27

@Viviennemary

Its a disgrace. We were told she would not be Queen. More backpeddling. Sick of the lot of them.
Don't be so ridiculous. Of course she would have been Queen Consort- it is what happens to the wife of the King. She is Princess of Wales, she just chose to use the title Duchess of Cornwall. She could choose to be Princess Consort but why should she. Out of deference to a woman who he never lived with from 1992 and who died 25 years ago? Camilla has been married to Charles for 17 years, very happily.She was his companion formally many years before that after Diana's death and informally before. He and Diana were married in 1981, unhappy by 1984 and living separate lives, formally separated in 1992, divorcing in 1996. I have no idea why Camilla as Queen Consort upsets you but get over it. She is entitled to the role, the title and what goes with it. Surely it's not to do with a long dead woman who was as unhappy with him as he was with her.
Pyriah · 05/02/2022 23:27

‘ Except it's not them announcing their wish it's the Queen's, who is kind of in charge here’
It doesn’t matter who is in charge, they’re still breaking the promise that was made to the public. They knew nobody wanted Camilla as queen so when they married they said we promise that will never happen. Otherwise people would have objected to the marriage. And now they’re like “haha we lied!”

HerRoyalNotness · 05/02/2022 23:27

@Inspectorslack

Can anyone tell me what the queen wrote above her signature in the statement? I can’t read it on. T phone
Your servant I think

I honestly don't know where to start with this. Grin

Can you link to the official statement where "they said we promise that will never happen"? Because as I and others have pointed out, as the wife of the king, Camilla was always going to be queen by default. The only controversy was whether or not she would use that title in public. But there was never any question that she would not be queen. I'd like to see this 'promise' in writing.
BreadInCaptivity · 05/02/2022 23:30

Actually when they were permitted to marry I’m sure they said she would never be queen. They weren’t even allowed to marry in church, they had to go to a register office. Now they’re trying to break that promise to the public and make her queen. It’s shocking.

To be fair, I think there was a statement by Clarence House about Camilla, saying she would be Princess Consort in due course.

However you've missed the point.

Charles and Camilla have not broken any promises.

Its actually quite clever as HMQ is expressing her wish that Camilla is styled as Queen when the time comes - and thus this "top trumps" any statements Clarence House previously made on the matter as they would want to respect the wishes of HMQ.

Frankly the whole thing is just a bit silly. She will be Queen, just as she is the Princess of Wales irrespective of how she's styled.

As for the Andrew comments - that's just daft. I'm pretty sure the Queens father didn't plan his death to provide a PR opportunity to eclipse the abhorrent behaviour of a grandchild who had yet to be conceived.

Rather this smacks of a Queen who is cognisant of her age (and Phillips death will have brought this home) and is tying up loose ends to help provide the best basis she can for her son and the future of the monarchy.

Pyriah · 05/02/2022 23:30

‘ You don’t get to vote for the monarchy. That’s not how it works.’

And that is exactly why we should have a republic. So we can vote for who we want and vote to remove those who are unfit. Such as Camilla.

I don't think she's super unpopular any more. Don't forget that no one much under the age of 30 will remember Diana and all the furore surrounding Charles and Camilla's affair. Plus, of course, there've been many more, and worse, transgressions within the RF since the 1990s.

And there was never any 'arrangement' about what style Camilla would take when Charles became King. I doubt they knew themselves - they can't see into the future.

CaveMum · 05/02/2022 23:30

@VodselForDinner

Does anyone know what happens if she outlived Charles?

William will become King. If Charles had still been married to Diana she’d have gone from Queen (Consort) Diana to what- The King Mother?

So what would Camilla be?

Surely she’d just be Queen Camilla, in the same way Queen Mary was “just” Queen Mary when her son became King George VI? Suppose she could be titled “The Dowager Queen”? I’m not up to speed on my titles Wink
blyn72 · 05/02/2022 23:31

I don't care any more and Queen consort is not the same as actually being THE Queen. I do wonder what Princes William and Harry will feel about Camilla being called 'Queen' but that's something we may never know.

Can I ask why you feel she is unfit? Do you feel the same about Charles?
