I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

@SomeFuckingWizardry

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60274193 - possibly a distraction from this, Andrew to give deposition evidence in March, which was published an hour ago?
You don't think the fact that she has been on the throne for 70 years tomorrow is a more likely explanation?
BacardiOnATuesday · 05/02/2022 22:39

@girafferafferaffe

Hope they all sod off
Couldn’t have put it better myself! 😂
Porcupineintherough · 05/02/2022 22:39

Coming up through the ranks is hardly a new thing with queens. I mean, I'd rather a republic but if we are sticking to a monarchy then why not?

Figgygal · 05/02/2022 22:39

@Twokidsanddone

I got that, and a breaking news notification at the same time stating the Queen was set to step down and coronation plans for Charles were underway. But it disappeared and can't find anything online now. Been driving myself daft wondering if I imagined it
Queen will never abdicate Ever
BotterMon · 05/02/2022 22:40

Good that's her rightful role when Charles becomes King which won't be until QEII dies - she has today reiterated she will serve her whole life.

BadgerStripes · 05/02/2022 22:40

Pity she and Charles didn't behave with dignity years ago.

Think this is an appalling decision.

Topseyt · 05/02/2022 22:41

I see no reason why Camilla should not be Queen Consort. I don't think it should ever have been questioned, especially for as long as it has been.

I think that she was the woman Charles always wanted to marry but was instead steered towards the disastrous marriage to Diana.

Didn't Diana herself once say while still married to Charles that she (Diana) would never be Queen? That proved to be sadly prophetic, unfortunately.

I see no reason why Camilla should not be crowned as Queen Consort when Charles comes to the throne.

Bellex · 05/02/2022 22:41

Clutching at straws for anything to deflect from Prince Andrew

cakeambush · 05/02/2022 22:42

Well why not. She'll be married to the king. People who witter on about Diana (who has been dead a quarter of a century) need to grow up.

SomeFuckingWizardry · 05/02/2022 22:43

@SparklingBrook I didn't know it was tomorrow (I'm not British), I saw several people questioning why so late on a Saturday, someone mentioned maybe Andrew, and happened to notice the Andrew story in the BBC top 10 sidebar.

So does she need to cancel tomorrow and pretend it isn't 70 years since she became Queen? Because Andrew.

Yep, it's her Diamond Jubilee this year. We're getting an extra Bank Holiday. Bet the people wishing they'd sod off will all be going into work as normal. Grin

Inspectorslack · 05/02/2022 22:47

Can anyone tell me what the queen wrote above her signature in the statement? I can’t read it on. T phone

ohMaggieMaggieMae · 05/02/2022 22:47

@Pyriah

Disgusting. I would vote for a republic long before I accept Camilla as Queen of England.
Me too

I completely disagreed with Sparklingbrook about something else the other day, but I think she's right here about the timing of the announcement.
KittensTeaAndCake · 05/02/2022 22:49

Well I like her and I'm very pleased for her.

CPL593H · 05/02/2022 22:50

This is all about what she's called, not what she will be. She is currently the Princess of Wales but the decision was (unsurprisingly) made not to use that title. At the moment Charles becomes King, she becomes Queen (Consort) She can be referred to as the Grand Moff Tarkin, but she will be Queen Camilla.

What's wrong with just putting 'I agree with Sparklingbrook?' Confused Grin

'your servant'

not sure if she usually use that?

Inspectorslack · 05/02/2022 22:51

Thank you.

I couldn’t make sense of it at all.

Why do you care so much? It is really weird that this upsets anyone.

lol

agreeing with you must be an unexpected occurrence for that poster Grin

endofagain · 05/02/2022 22:52

Queen Consort is not remotely the same thing as Queen Monarch. She won't actually be Queen of anything/anywhere. To be honest, if we have to have a head of state, I guess the monarchy is less dreadful than any of the presidents and dictators I can think of off the top of my head. Although, I would concede that Singapore turned out reasonably OK.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2022 22:53

It made me laugh anyway. Grin it's a bit shameful to admit to agreeing with me, clearly.

BreadInCaptivity · 05/02/2022 22:54

Good. I'm pleased.

I like Camilla and she's done great work in supporting DV charities.

She's very down to earth and gets on with the "job" without fanfare (I met her once and she was really engaging, friendly and fuss free).

People need to move on. It's obviously sad that Diana died (especially for her children) but neither party in that marriage behaved well - upshot is it was a terrible match for both of them driven by silly ideas about what type of woman Charles should marry.
