What’s DH coming home with?

265 replies

Troublesometooth · 09/01/2022 14:15

Sent DH to Aldi with a list of about £40 worth of food.

It’s just pinged on my banking app that he has spent £84! He will be home in ten minutes…

Any guesses what he is coming home with?

I’m going for some sort of middle aisle electric saw that will sit in the shed for the next 10 years unused!

I went to Aldi today ... the 9p bargains got me too!
So, as an aside on this thread, does anybody know if Stollen can be frozen? Not the first one, obviously. That won't last long enough, but the second one and the Stollen bites? Even I may not be able to get through them all straight away, especially after finishing off all the Florentines.. Wink

Inastatus · 10/01/2022 19:03

@CheshireKitten123 - he is, she posted yesterday.

Kotatsu · 10/01/2022 19:03

Your stollen were down to 9p! They're still 10x that here (so thank god I could resist them).

My feeling is that you can freeze basically anything that's not sloshy. I reckon they'd freeze fine, although you'd have to top up the icing sugar for looks which would go slushy when you defrosted.

Missed that - how many air fryers did he buy?

user1466167893 · 10/01/2022 19:08

This has made me laugh. If I'd seen it sooner, what Ops husband bought would be exactly what my husband would buy. I usually do the shopping and it's around £50. He's been for the last few weeks and it's £80 every week. He cannot stick to the list, also buys double and buys extra for the freezer (that we don't need). He came home proud as punch this week that he only spent £50. Went to cook dinner tonight (Spag bol) and asked him where the spaghetti was. Oh I didn't get that as I knew it would take me over the spend. Can't wait to see what else is missing as the week goes by!

@CheshireKitten123 - 😅 it was quite boring by the OP’s own admission. Just a load of food they didn’t really need.

Yup, I've just read back through the whole thread.

That's 8 mins of my life I won't get back.

And not an air fryer to be seen.

Pah!

@stayathomer

I hate apple crumbles too and hate that they're so loved, it means I have to fake my way through a slice at least twice a yearGrin. Out of all the kids I know, it seems to be a love hate thing, have seen kids jump for them at school days out etc, while others say they detest them. 2 of my kids would eat a full one if they weren't stopped, the other two nearly cry when they see them!
@stayathomer wrong thread? Grin
jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 10/01/2022 19:20

unless the extra £40 was spent on loads of apple crumbles Grin

You may want to consider that he got £40 cashback on top of paying for the shopping...

Is he stockpiling cash and if so, why?

Yes, even the expensive ones. I passed on those though as tried one before Christmas. Large jars of mincemeat and Florentines too. Also picked up a couple of the Millionaire sponge puddings for 99p each. Grin Will try freezing one then. Thanks!

He isn’t stock piling cash.

He defiantly came home with £80 worth of food. About £10 worth of pasta seems to be what he is stock piling, not cash.

Wow, that’s a reach and a half, even by mn standards!!

How very dare you try and post a lighthearted thread OP where we get to delight in the best and worst of Aldi middle aisle offerings. Go and examine your DHs shopping receipt for clues as to how your life must be falling apart.

MingeofDeath · 10/01/2022 21:03

Apparently the cast iron pans Aldi sell are made by le Creuset.

I've only read the first page of this thread & already it's sounding like The Generation Game!

Has anyone mentioned a cuddly toy yet?Grin

Are they really or is it a marketing ploy? I've seen Dartington casserole dishes although thought they only did glasses.

@Troublesometooth I love your user name. Is it from Titus’ Troublesome Tooth? If so, we loved that book when mine were little.

HR313 · 10/01/2022 22:33

My OH did a detour to lidl on his way home tonight… came home with a yoga mat 🥴

threatmatrix · 10/01/2022 23:05

He used your money? Why couldn’t he buy the shopping himself? Whoever goes to the shop in my house pays.

lborgia · 10/01/2022 23:43

@TheNestedIf

Is it only me who initially misread "laminator" as "terminator"? I mean, it's possible in that aisle, right?
Is that the one that says "Aisle be back"?

I'll get my coat...Blush

Mitzi067 · 11/01/2022 00:06

Is he home yet...... or is this a joke!
