I think that’s the right verdict. Have they done the sentencing yet?

workshy44 · 14/12/2021 11:13

Cannot understand how the "mother" and I use that term loosely didn't get convicted of even manslaughter. She won't really serve anytime

musicalfrog · 14/12/2021 11:15

Only just hearing about this. Gorgeous little girl, her poor great grandfather he looked broken. Another dead child, another child failed by her parents and the authorities. It's unbearable!

Bagelsandbrie · 14/12/2021 11:15

Having re read that I don’t understand why “causing death” isn’t a charge of manslaughter?

the80sweregreat · 14/12/2021 11:18

It's so so sad , another poor child let down by the system and by her 'parents' ..
it is heartbreaking..

When tested the mother was found to have an IQ of 70, in the bottom 2% of the country. This would indicate she lacked the capacity to understand her actions.

Another case of a baby being repeatedly abused, with multiple reports to social services and being let down by them.

danni0509 · 14/12/2021 11:23

Right verdict for Savannah. 100%

Frankie I’ve been on the fence. Not for murder or manslaughter, but for causing or allowing. To start with I thought she was as guilty as charged but my opinion has changed.

Neglect and cruelty, yes, but not so sure about causing or allowing since I’ve read more about the domestic abuse and her learning disability it’s muddied it for me, I’ve been undecided. I do actually feel sorry for frankie.

I’ve read the trial everyday on telegraph and Argus, David jagger has done a fab job reporting!

Anyway I’m pleased justice will be served for number 1 psycho bitch Savannah.

Sentencing will be tomorrow at 2pm.

ListenLinda · 14/12/2021 11:25

Followed this from the beginning, my son is three weeks older than Star. I hope Brockhill rots in hell.

Itsnotover · 14/12/2021 11:26

I hope Brockhill gets sent down for life. She’s evil and is a danger to society.

I don’t believe Frankie Smith is evil and I hope she gets a second chance at life. She has an IQ of 70 and I don’t think a lot of people understand what that actually means. I have a daughter with a similar IQ who is also 20 and she’s never lived independently and never will. She’s been in residential since the age of 14.

Echofallen · 14/12/2021 11:26

So tense waiting for the verdict, god knows how her family feel. Justice at last for little Star.

LadyCleathStuart · 14/12/2021 11:27

I think they are the right verdicts. The fact that Brockhill was so arrogant on the stand and in her police interviews was ridiculous, there was CCTV evidence of her beating that baby and she still denied it. She argued with the prosecution about how snapchat works to the point they had to bring an expert in to officially rubish her claims. Unfortunatley she seems the type who will thrive in prison.

Sorry but nah she doesn't get a second chance at life in my opinion. Low IQ or not, she was absolutely vile to her young child, and allowed her partner to torture the child. And kill her. I don't feel sorry for her

Itsacakebaby · 14/12/2021 11:33

Definitely the right verdict.

Rest in peace beautiful baby Star.

Lougle · 14/12/2021 11:34

I think the murder verdict was correct. The causing/allowing, I'm not convinced.

Lougle · 14/12/2021 11:35

I think if there had been a neglect/causing suffering charge, that would have been appropriate for FS. I just think that causing/allowing required more sophisticated thinking processes than she is likely capable of, given her IQ.

I think frankie comes under category C reading the criteria. Taking the time off she has already served, I think she’ll be out in the next year or so.

I hope she can rebuild her life and learn to make the right choices, she’s going to need a lot of support.

Savannah for me I hope they lose the key.

Badnightguaranteed · 14/12/2021 11:40

Glad the jury managed to reach this verdict. Having read the daily updates from the case, and the subsequent summing up, I mused that I wouldn’t be able to have found SB guilty, from the evidence, had I been on the jury, and followed exactly their ‘flow charts’ of how to reach a verdict. From the evidence, I mean.
It’s good that the jury reached this verdict, it’s the correct one imo.
Awful awful case.

Badnightguaranteed · 14/12/2021 11:43

On a slightly different note I’m always astounded at how and why ‘step’ parents or new partners of parents are allowed so much access to children?

bluebellYellow · 14/12/2021 11:44

Brockhill deserves to rot! When I look at her and Tustin I just feel so sick and disgusted. It is so sad to see the pictures of baby Star with Brockhill, I bet she was terrified.

the80sweregreat · 14/12/2021 11:46

There are just too many children being killed and the whole ' lessons will be learned' never are.
It is just so frustrating and these poor children do not stand a chance.
It is beyond sad how they have been let down by people who are meant to care for them.
We live in a truly wicked world :(

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 14/12/2021 11:46

Good.
That poor child.

MondayYogurt · 14/12/2021 11:47

I'm a pessimist. Frankie will have more children. Predators always find prey.

stingofthebutterfly · 14/12/2021 11:48

Right verdict for Savanna.

Not sure about Frankie. I genuinely think she should have been found not guilty as I don't think she either caused nor allowed Star's death. There's no doubt she was a crap mother, but she wasn't charged with cruelty. Many parents have their children removed for that and don't go to jail.

However, I think she'll be in danger if she walks from court, so a short sentence is probably in her best interests.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/12/2021 11:53

She has an IQ of 70

IQ assessments are unreliable, and the result obtained by a psychologist retained by the defence may differ substantially from that obtained by another assessor.

For example Eric Smith (who carried out the assessment in this case) previously assessed Christian Darko as having an IQ of 65, whereas other testing gave an IQ of 85. These scores have very different implications.
