Social services seem to feel that if a house is clean and tidy and the child is well dressed, abuse cannot be happening.

It happened in Arthur’s case and it also happened in Star’s case.

TwinkleWilli · 14/12/2021 13:48

It's quite offensive how some people here look at folks with lower IQs. An IQ of 70 is very borderline and not some sort of heavily disabled robot who can't operate in the modern world. Even if they are operating at the level of a 10 year old, like a typical 10 year old people with IQs in that zone are usually compassionate, know right from wrong, and act normally unless you're giving them a logic test or something.

Saying this woman deserves some slack because of her IQ after being proven to have abused her child with sleeplessness, holding her under water, and all the rest of it is grossly offensive.

Livpool · 14/12/2021 13:49

@lemmein

She was also the one who shouted to startle Star when she was falling asleep with pure exhaustion - and filmed it, finding herself hilarious.

Don't understand the sympathy tbh - a low IQ doesn't excuse any of the torturous acts she did towards her baby.

Completely agree with this
boogiewithasuitcase · 14/12/2021 13:49

I don't think anyone on this thread has said that she should have gone free. Read the summing up of the case by the three lawyers involved to see how the jury would have had to weigh up the evidence with the assessments.

Well actually I find your attitude grossly offensive.

The water thing was not even likely to be true if you read the trial.

Itsnotover · 14/12/2021 13:53

People with a low IQ and a mental age of 9 usually would be compassionate. But how would they fare once they were brainwashed and manipulated by an evil sociopath?

Why do you think that schoolchildren often get involved with bullying? Even though they wouldn’t start it by themselves?

Soubriquet · 14/12/2021 13:53

What a beautiful little girl and I feel gutted that another child has been murdered by their step parent.

Glad she’s been found guilty but things need to be different for the mother. SS will need to make sure any other children she may have are not at risk again.

mydogisthebest · 14/12/2021 13:54

I think they should both rot in jail. If the mother does only get a short sentence and I bet she will she should never ever have another baby

LondonWolf · 14/12/2021 13:56

Seems many here would let her off, fortunately the court came to the right verdict.

Not one person has said she should be “let off”. Stop making things up. Everyone has said that the right verdict was reached, just as you have.

Parsley1234 · 14/12/2021 13:56

I read every day of the trial and am on the justice for Star Facebook page. All of the families and defendants Facebook pages were open there was a massive amount of support for SB from her family and community which was lacking for FS there was an outpouring of support in the court fir SB. The thing that struck me so much was the normality of FS family excluding her mum they seemed like a tight community lots of children who seemed close and a deprived area but no abuse apparent those people have lived through hell FS seemed very well supported and lived and the child was adored it’s truly awful. One question not answered in the trial was the puppy who had been allowed to be attacked under the watch of FS I was surprised not more was made of that ie showing negligence and the poster who said SB is with her cousin lording it’s up in HMP Risley is totally right she abd her scabby cousin are indeed running the wing

Itsnotover · 14/12/2021 13:57

If FS had another child, I would think that child would be removed. Rightly.

takingmytimeonmyride · 14/12/2021 13:58

My son has learning disabilities, though I'm not sure what his IQ is. He will never live independently though.

And yes, he definitely knows right from wrong. But he's also very vulnerable. So if someone told him he had to do something and kept repeating it, and it was someone he trusted, then he would probably do it. Obviously I would hope he wouldn't hurt someone, but there are awful people out there who take advantage of vulnerable people and these things can happen.

I have seen a picture of the bruise that was on poor Star's face and I don't understand how SS could have just written the call of as malicious if they saw that.

My youngest was very clumsy, and a climber. He fell down the stairs, he fell of a chair and hit his head on a wall, he fell over all the bloody time. None of these things resulted in bruises like that. At worst he had a lump on his forehead (almost permanently it seemed at one point)

And one time he did fall over and hurt his wrist I took him to the hospital even though I was certain it wasn't broken, but just to be on the safe side (it was fine)

I feel so sorry for Star's family who loved her and who would have looked after her, like they'd already done, if her mum had just gone off with that woman and left her behind.

AmberLynn1536 · 14/12/2021 13:58

@Justcallmebebes

Sorry but nah she doesn't get a second chance at life in my opinion. Low IQ or not, she was absolutely vile to her young child, and allowed her partner to torture the child. And kill her. I don't feel sorry for her

This. I'm shocked at how quickly excuses and apologies are already being made for Smith. She was just as culpable and will hopefully spend a very, very long time in jail now, or at least long enough that when she is eventually released she will be way past child bearing age

Exactly I can’t believe the sympathy she is getting on here.
didihearthatright123456 · 14/12/2021 13:59

This is just totally heartbreaking. There is a picture of Star online with a massive bruise on her cheek. I just can't help but think how hurt and upset she would have been when this happened (nevermind all of the other devastating injuries she had). She actually looks a little like one of my twin girls and I can't get this picture out of my mind.

Poor poor girl, may she rest in peace.

Lets hope that vile creature that did it suffers for the rest of her days

Nanny0gg · 14/12/2021 14:01

@LadyCleathStuart

I think they are the right verdicts. The fact that Brockhill was so arrogant on the stand and in her police interviews was ridiculous, there was CCTV evidence of her beating that baby and she still denied it. She argued with the prosecution about how snapchat works to the point they had to bring an expert in to officially rubish her claims. Unfortunatley she seems the type who will thrive in prison.
Depends.

That evil bitch who tortured and murdered Arthur isn't having an easy ride I'm glad to say.

LondonWolf · 14/12/2021 14:01

Also for those saying she waited 11 minutes to call an ambulance, FS is recorded screaming “call the police!” during the eventual call made by Brockhill and also attempted to text 999, which you can only do if registered to do so, clearly she didn’t realise that. I think the coercion and threats went on to the very end until Brockhill realised there was no where left to go.

And how much of that was coercion?

I know a number of NT children heavily involved with bullying because they were going along with a 'leader'

Itsnotover · 14/12/2021 14:05

An IQ of 70 is not borderline at all. 100 is average.

Dagnabit · 14/12/2021 14:10

@Itsnotover - thank you for sharing that point of view. I agree with you about Frankie not being evil. I also hope that she is not allowed to keep another child ever. I do understand why people would want her jailed though, it’s difficult to understand how anyone couldn’t tell what they did was wrong - even my children from a young age would have known. Poor, poor baby Sad

They need to take more notice of concerned family, they are the ones who are more aware of what's going on day to day. I wonder if that poor great grandfather had removed the child there might have been a better outcome for her? No doubt he would have been the one behind bars, easier than investigating his, and others' . concerns.
Parsley1234 · 14/12/2021 14:13

Sorry styal is where she is

Malibuismysecrethome · 14/12/2021 14:14

Just to be clear, iQ or not, I think she is evil. She made that baby walk up flights of stairs with broken legs. Fuck off with your apologising for her.

Absolutely this.
ToughTittyWhompus · 14/12/2021 14:17

I’m not making excuses. I’m saying that the jury felt there wasn’t enough evidence against her for murder or manslaughter and there was plenty against SB.

Does FS deserve the full 10 years? Absolutely.
