...what sort of clothes and accessories did you wear?

(Note: my username is coincidental and relates to my job!)

My main memory is of baggy jeans with the bottoms dragging on the floor and getting more frayed and holey on each wear.

(And my Grandmother offering to darn them!)

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 27/11/2021 19:37

I was 17/18 then and was going through my ‘Gap’ phase.

Cord flares, plain fitted t-shirts, argyle cardigans, converse. I also had a lovely 3/4 length brown suede coat.

mynameiscalypso · 27/11/2021 19:38

I generally wore bootcut / flared jeans, vans and t shirts. Not unlike what I wear now to be honest.

I remember them Grin

I remember wearing flares with a big butterfly embroidered on the bottom. Platform type trainers and long sleeve fitted t shirts on top. Lots of little clips in my hair. What a sight Grin

R0tational · 27/11/2021 19:39

Was fat. Hoodie. And wide leg trousers/combats.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 27/11/2021 19:39

I was 16. I remember bootcut jeans, denim skirts (I spent all the money from my part time job in Diesel), corset style tops for going out (and I had a great pair of leather trousers!)… can’t remember much else!

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:40

I was 13/14 that year.

I remember having button up Adidas bottoms and lime green trainers. Combats with a lovely Chinese dragon (I think) up one leg. Bootcut jeans that I used to wear with “fuck me” boots Grin my cousin and I both had them and dressed identically whenever possible. Those fake leather circle/hoop and tassel belts. Big hoop earrings. I had oxblood DM boots too.

MasterGland · 27/11/2021 19:41

I was 17. I wore jeans with slogan t shirts, saving the planet, not eating meat type stuff.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 27/11/2021 19:41

Yes, mainly long sleeved fitted t-shirts on top.

Eileen101 · 27/11/2021 19:41

Oh what a blast from the past.
Massive flare jeans, with embroidery.
Those trouser skirt things??!
The little butterfly clips in hair.
Glittery tops.

Etherealhedgehog · 27/11/2021 19:42

Long flared or bootcut jeans getting all raggedy on the bottom (horrible in the rain), fitted t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts. Skater style shoes. That sort of thing.

phonetica · 27/11/2021 19:42

A lot of what seems to be creeping into the shops/fashion now!

Snoozeee · 27/11/2021 19:43

Blue shimmer eyeshadow 🌝

Badabingbadabum · 27/11/2021 19:43

Wide jeans hoodies, vest tops, tshirts over long sleeve tshirts, vans and converse. I had loads of beaded, woven leather and friendship bracelets. I jingled when I moved!

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:43

Fwiw I am horrified to see bootcut trousers back in shops!

OldClothes · 27/11/2021 19:44

I definitely remember the Chinese dragon logo on trousers now. I had forgotten all about them.

Baggy trousers seem to have been a common thing.

Same. They can prise my skinny jeans off my ageing, slightly chubby arse.
Youngatheart00 · 27/11/2021 19:45

I was 17. Baggy low slung skater jeans with wide belts and frayed ends. Vest tops. Mini backpacks - kangol! The early days of going out. “Jeans and a nice top”. A lot of clingy material. I could pull it off with my figure from those days!

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:45

Oh I used to make eyeliner out of my eyeshadows so it would be green or baby blue or shimmer pink. Grin and I outlined my lips with a darker lip gloss than my lips which smeared like hell Grin

Imohsotired · 27/11/2021 19:45

When I was going out everything I wore was from Morgan, I don’t think it’s still around. I remember going to the store in Oxford Circus and getting my black boot cut trousers and boob tubes for the teenage disco!

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:46

Lots of studded belts. I remember a white one!

OldClothes · 27/11/2021 19:47

MaryAndGerry - you sound cool!

I was actually in my 20s but reading this has reminded me of my hipster burgundy velvet flares (hipster as in the style...not bearded man on a Dutch bike.)

TheCanyon · 27/11/2021 19:48

Baggy jeans/cords that were constantly soaked up to the knees Grin

I actually still have a lot of my clothes as my mum keeps bringing them through when she comes across them. They still fit but 35yo me looks daft as fuck in them. She also brought me a tiny age 10 Britney spears tshirt, could get it on but couldn't move or breathe, dd7 wears it now Grin
