...what sort of clothes and accessories did you wear?

(Note: my username is coincidental and relates to my job!)

I am that age bracket but was deeply unfashionable so this thread is helping me remember what I "should" have been wearing 😂

Bootcut jeans, denim skirts, corset tops for going out, tiny butterfly grip things in many colours, hoop earings are all ringing bells. Short black (p)leather jackets too possibly. Oh actually a denim jacket with a cotton hoody underneath as a coat too. I think coffee/heather shimmer lipstick had passed by then?

Jericha · 27/11/2021 19:50

Buffalo platforms, feathered hair scrunchies, wide legged combats, flared jeans, sports coats with hideously huge logos on, black eyeliner on the waterline. I was 13/14 in 2000.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:52

@OldClothes

MaryAndGerry - you sound cool!
I was the least cool teenager ever! Grin I just tried very hard to convince myself I was.
Luckystar1 · 27/11/2021 19:52

Very, very low jeans, thongs became a thing. Having a bejewelled thong showing above your very low jeans.

Lots of slogan tops. Twisted hair. Above knee, slightly A line dresses (like baby spice).

Butterfly tops. Handkerchief tops. Very short skirts

OldClothes · 27/11/2021 19:53

This is bringing back some memories. Does anyone remember hair braids being a thing?

Oh the talk of cords has reminded me of the following year, I spent the whole summer wearing a pair of blue cords because I’d gotten a tattoo on my ankle and didn’t want my parents to find out. Cords on, socks pulled up and trainers on all the time. I looked ridiculous in the height of summer Grin

Minceandonions · 27/11/2021 19:57

A pair of Kappa tracksuit bottoms with poppers up the legs, a tight white vest, those foam platform slides, and a vintage looking Addidas zip up.
What exactly was I thinking!?

NutellaEllaElla · 27/11/2021 19:57

I was 14 and liked wide legged jeans, suuuper low rise. I also loved Morgan and Miss Sixty when I could afford it.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 19:58

God yes! I had some beautiful g strings! Grin it’s a wonder I managed to get beyond my front door. My dad mustn’t have seen them.

AdoptedBumpkin · 27/11/2021 19:58

I'm not quite the right age for this, but a younger friend of mine wore a hideous Kappa tracksuit.

YourFinestPantaloons · 27/11/2021 19:58

There's is more than one picture of me wearing a bikini top under a fishnet wife beater style coloured vest top, and low slung jeans. With blue mascara Grin

RandomUsernameHere · 27/11/2021 19:59

Jeans so wide and baggy they dragged behind me, usually with some sort of chain attached
Studded choker
Skater type shoes
Belt with studs or chains
Vest top
Eyeliner in blue or purple that went all the way to my hairline

I'm laughing just thinking about it, great idea for a thread!

RandomUsernameHere · 27/11/2021 20:01

Oh and bright blue lipstick!

SuddenSquawking · 27/11/2021 20:02

Either huge jeans that dragged on the floor and ended up wet up to mid calf when it rained and ridiculously chunky skate trainers, or bootcut jeans with blocky chunky heels. And always way too much on my top half regardless Grin

ConstantlyIrksome · 27/11/2021 20:04

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

My main memory is of baggy jeans with the bottoms dragging on the floor and getting more frayed and holey on each wear.

(And my Grandmother offering to darn them!)

All of this. My DGM would take them up and press them so I'd wake up to ankle swingers with a crisp fold down the front. And Punkyfish hoodies with the holes in the sleeves for your thumbs.
Quail15 · 27/11/2021 20:05

I was 15/16 and bought most of my clothes from Camden market 😅 - 'Criminal Damage' baggy jeans, chains on the belt loops/pockets, dark t-shirts and hoodies with pink streaks in my hair.

CauntDracula · 27/11/2021 20:11

I was 17. I lived in low rise bootcut jeans with tight lycra v-neck t-shirts, low slung belts with a huge buckle and black ankle boots. For the occasional night out it was the same tops and belts but with pencil skirts and strappy sandals.

mamaweebeastie · 27/11/2021 20:14

I was 18 then (😲🤯) baggy jeans/dungarees & combats. Short sleeve T's over long T's. Goth/Grunge was my style then & it's not really changed much, Maybe toned down a bit.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/11/2021 20:15

Pure mosh

EveningOverRooftops · 27/11/2021 20:15

I was a goth so anything black

But I did wear corduroy flares that covered my shoes, criminal damage jeans, had a few T-shirt’s with dragons in from new look and the odd item from Tammy girl.

I also wore air walk skate shoes. Doc martens and a big fuck off pair of new rock boots with silver flames all over them.

I did wear old black work boots fishnets and velvet hot pants too. Big bell sleeve tops.

My fashion choices were a mishmash of styles. I still have some of my jewellery bits from then too Grin

Sunshineandwiltshire · 27/11/2021 20:17

I was 16 and remember wearing trousers with a skirt attached. Oh how awful !
Big baggy combats and trainers. Looking like I was in all saints.
I also remember the kickers knitted jumpers that cost a small fortune.
Adidas bottoms. Ahhh what a blast from the past.

Daisychainsandglitter · 27/11/2021 20:17

I was 16 in 2000. As PP's have mentioned, flared jeans or cords, tight band t shirt, shag bands all the way up my arms and a velvet jacket.

BlowDryRat · 27/11/2021 20:18

Bootcut jeans and a t-shirt. Some of my friends wore those jeans with colourful fabric around the ankles.

Bellfor · 27/11/2021 20:20

I think I flittered between skater jeans & nirvana hoodie, black top held together with safety pins, Jane Norman dresses/tops (purely bought for the carrier bag) and those ridiculously tiny skirts with a ribbed/lace cami and hair straightened to an inch of its life with v.v.v.v pale pink or gold lippy
