...what sort of clothes and accessories did you wear?

(Note: my username is coincidental and relates to my job!)

Mini cheerleader type skirts, baby doll dresses, studded belts and a million leather and rubber bracelets, DM’s or platform Mary Janes, hoodies and a scowl Grin

FuckingFabulous · 27/11/2021 20:41

Halter tops in that fabric that was one colour when you looked from one angle and a different one from another direction.

Glitter or hot glued diamanté on things.

O'Neil's bucket hats

Shimmer asymmetric hem dresses

Slashed back T-shirt's

crystal1717 · 27/11/2021 20:42

Glittery tops, midriff showing.
But mainly short floaty 'baby doll' dresses, tights and doc martins.
Also long loose knit jumpers with frayed cuffs and holes in hem and elbows, over mini skirts with doc martins.
Plimsoles in summer with same clothes.
I was in my 20s.

Pbbananabagel · 27/11/2021 20:43

Omg and how could I forget the ubiquitous’Barbie is a Slut’ t shirt!

inkworks273 · 27/11/2021 20:44

I was 13 and I think everything I wore came from JJB Sports. So trackie bottoms, ellesse jumpers, slouch socks and trainers.

I was absolutely clueless about fashion and only cared about comfort Grin

Bellfor · 27/11/2021 20:44

I just remembered a lime green handkerchief top I bought in summer 2000! 😳

Even worse... I wore it with Adidas popper trousers Confused

Yorkshirelass04 · 27/11/2021 20:44

I had a belted long cardigan with a fur trim round the neck.

Tank top with a photo print of a wave on it.

I hated the Adidas poppers at the time! (Why were they popular?)

Pointy toe stilleto boots - either from Faith or River Island.
Bootcut jeans, one shoulder tops.
Hoodies from Ted Baker, Bench and French Connection.

WinoAnon · 27/11/2021 20:52

Stand out items for me were the baggy jeans which would be dripping with filthy rainwater from me walking round with them dragging. I also remember the combats and trousers with skirts but possibly they were more 90s?

I remember having a bit of an obsession with tennis dresses too. Was this a thing or just because jjb sports was my only source of clothes for a while?

NerrSnerr · 27/11/2021 20:52

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

My main memory is of baggy jeans with the bottoms dragging on the floor and getting more frayed and holey on each wear.

(And my Grandmother offering to darn them!)

And when it rained they'd get soaked up to your knees!
RobinPenguins · 27/11/2021 20:57

I was 16. Tight tops with baggy or bootcut and low cut jeans was my uniform.

Ah yes, handkerchief tops! And pencil skirts.

I hated them because you "had" to have them and we couldn't afford them 😬 I did have a beautiful array of glittery hanky tops too as many pp have mentioned.

Oh and shag bands and glittery things everywhere, yes!

It was a terrible time for fashion and I blame the Spice Girls and All Saints tbh

SpookyScarySkeletons · 27/11/2021 20:59

Both me and DSis! We were into flared cords and "kooky" t shirts with fun slogans. Leather bracelets and neck chains with spikes. Lots of crazy coloured hair, I remember nagging and nagging my mum for those chunky platform heeled shoes for school. I'm amazed I never broke an ankle in them 😂

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 27/11/2021 21:04

The Adidas poppers started the trend of girls locally wearing boxers or shorts under our trackers because people would always open your poppers Grin

Moonlaserbearwolf · 27/11/2021 21:04

Cords from the vintage section in the huge Topshop in Oxford Circus
Fitted T-shirt's with slogans
Kickers shoes

Moonlaserbearwolf · 27/11/2021 21:06

And velvet or cord jacket
Different coloured nail polish on every nail
Gem stone necklace from a new age shop

Trousers with skirts stitched onto them, floor dragging flare jeans, pedal pushers, dragon logo vest tops, coloured snake print Confused, boob tubes.

FatPatsCat · 27/11/2021 21:11

Was this circa juicy couture velour tracksuit era?

OldClothes · 27/11/2021 21:16

I have heard handkerchief tops are coming back.

I had a lovely two tone denim pencil skirt l, I was 15. Miss that skirt.

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 27/11/2021 21:21

Mega low rise jeans with a huge flare on them. Big platform shoes or trainer and a g string with either the sparkly star or heart showing and tons of little butterfly clips in my hair. Or those little spring ones that had gem stone on them

Trousers with a skirt over them

School trousers were also mega flared and had lovely pink studs all up the legs much to the dismay of the teachers

I also lived in Addias poppers, Nike, Reebok, Ellesse and Kappa shit too. Must say though I much preferred the trainers then to what I do now.

Oh and the obligatory Barry M sparkly blue eye shadow. Teamed with blue mascara and pink lippy. I thought I was the bees knees. I'm certain now I looked a right twat Grin
