...what sort of clothes and accessories did you wear?

(Note: my username is coincidental and relates to my job!)

I found Miss Selfridge and Pilot to be a great source of thongs. Awful nylon things, some tied up with ribbon at the side. I am uncomfortable just thinking about wearing them now!

bizboz · 28/11/2021 08:28

Oh and combats of course!

itssquidstella · 28/11/2021 08:51

I was 15 in 2000 and a Greebo (Midlands term for skater/goth/emo). I wore enormous jeans that dragged on the ground and soaked up rain water to the knees with either a black hoodie with a tribal design on, or a baby doll tshirt and a pair of children's fairy wings. Accessorised with a spiked leather dog collar, of course. I had very short spiky hair too.

My friends were much more mainstream - there were a lot of Adidas and Kappa popper trousers around, along with oversized Helly Hansen coats that had one giant apron-style pocket on the front.

I forgot about Pilot! My things were l from Topshop.

I was 20. My bottoms were baggy and my tops were tight. My Wonderbra was a permanent fixture. If I was going out it was in something from Lipsy. Back then everything from there was clingy and thin.

I turned 15 in 2000.
Lots of this thread sounds familiar! I remember there were two distinct "camps" in terms of fashion, music etc... mainstream and alternative.
At school we all had (or wanted) Kickers shoes, it was cool to have shoulder bags rather than practical backpacks, and the choice of carrier bag was very important Grin
I can't remember a lot of what I wore then, but I was into hippy/grunge stuff. I definitely wore long flares that got wet up to my knees and worn/torn from dragging along the floor. I also remember wearing fishnet nights (I think I had a multicoloured pair), a big Rocket Dog ballet flats with criss-cross elastics, multicoloured patchwork corduroy flares, and a 1970s style coat that looked a lot like this... not all at the same time I don't think!

I had a coat like this too! I got it from a vintage store in Edinburgh and LOVED it. I miss that coat.
Misspacorabanne · 28/11/2021 20:23

I was a teen, and also loved the flared jeans, that soaked up rainwater and covered my trainers.
Kickers shoes with a bug chunky heel, platform shoes (think spice girls) or bright illuminous trainers in yellow Blush
I sometimes wore combats with the big pockets.
I'd wear the tops that look like a long sleeved top with a t shirt over it, but actually they were attached.
Coloured mini butterfly hair clips Blush
A fleece with ellesse on! Grin

@itssquidstella is that Dawson's Creek in the background?? Grin

@DukeofEarlGrey it is indeed! Dates the photo, doesn't it?! 😂

@SimpsonsXmasBoogie

Extremely wide, baggy jeans. You could have hidden an entire person in each leg. Then I'd wear a far too tight little t-shirt with some sort of obnoxious phrase written on it. Or a band tshirt. 5 or 6 bracelets on each wrist. Long stripey socks. Huge chunky trainers.

I've never seen this written down before. I think it probably sounds as hilarious as it looked!

My best mate and I DID use those jeans to hide things in. We were skint students and used to put knee high socks under them and then stuff bottles of vodka and cans of Red Bull from the cheap supermarket down our socks. We could then saunter past the security guards / bag check on the door at the Student's Union and get it all out in the girls' toilets once inside... Pretty classy stuff!
Sakura7 · 28/11/2021 21:05

I was 16 and wore baggy jeans, combats and those weird trousers with a flap across the front that was supposed to look like a skirt. Lots of fitted t-shirts and sometimes shirts. A lot of horribly shiny stuff!

felulageller · 28/11/2021 21:25

Very low rise jeans.
I remember pals having eyebrow rings and navel piercings. A line skirts and dresses. Platforms. Smokey eyes. Very narrow eyebrows. Rouge noir nail varnish. Butterfly hair clips. Scrunchies.

Oh god, of course, the eyebrows! I used to pluck mine to buggery.
