I don’t think I’ve really processed it yet. DH slipped down the stairs carrying DS and I saw him land on his head.

DS is only 4 months old. He’s had a scan on his head and has two fractures and lots of swelling. They don’t think he has brain damage. We’re staying in the children’s hospital overnight for observation. They have to wake him up every hour. I’m so scared, I don’t think I’ve left fight or flight mode yet.

If this happened to any of you how was the recovery?

AnonAnnie2977 · 06/11/2021 21:10

Oh no! Sending you your husband and baby my best wishes. A horrible accident- it happens . Babies are resilient.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2021 21:11

That sounds really frightening Flowers How is your DH doing?

LightsS0bright · 06/11/2021 21:11

Physically DH says he’s okay. Emotionally I’m not too sure, he’s only been allowed in with us for the doctors updates. He’s with family tonight so isn’t just at home alone.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if he has hurt himself but doesn’t want to worry me about it

my8thMNusername · 06/11/2021 21:13

Oh what a shock, sending a big HH. it sounds like your little boy is in the best place being well looked after. Hope he heals very soon xx

NumberTrain · 06/11/2021 21:16

A very dear friend of mine dropped her baby down the stairs four years ago. Multiple fractures including skull. Horrific for both of the parents emotionally. She started school September just gone and honestly she is just incredible. You would never know. Reading, counting, running, jumping. They are resilient little monsters! I hope everything goes well for your DS X

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 06/11/2021 21:17

Wishing your son a speedy recovery

ImUninsultable · 06/11/2021 21:17

Oh OP, this must be awful for you and your huaband.

You're in the best place possible and it sounds like you've had the best news possible. No brain damage. Baby will be OK, and you'll all be home again soon. Focus on that. Once you're home, please dont be afraid to look into counselling for trauma. I went through something similar with my son and I just couldn't get over it alone. Ask for help, cherish your baby and you and your husband support each other.

This will get better.

HollowTalk · 06/11/2021 21:18

I hope your son makes a good recovery. 💐

Thatsplentyjack · 06/11/2021 21:19

No but I do know a baby who feel off a high surface and landed on a hard floor and had a small skull fracture. They are a perfectly healthy 7 year old now. Hope everything is OK OP.

AmandaHugenkiss · 06/11/2021 21:20

No personal experience but my friends baby fell off his changing table and fractured his skull, had swelling, got kept in. Was absolutely right as rain. He was over it within a day, parents never recovered. 💐 for you. Hope it’s all ok.

NameChangeADHD · 06/11/2021 21:20

He’s in the best place. Cuddle your baby tonight and hug your husband once you’re home. You all need some support right not, including you

Sorry I have no advice

Piggy42 · 06/11/2021 21:20

So sorry OP must be dreadful for you and your dh. I hope your son recovers soon Flowers

Sending all the calming happy thoughts your way. Kids are remarkably bouncy. Look after yourself - make sure you've eaten etc.

HippyChickMama · 06/11/2021 21:29

When dh was 6 months old mil tripped on a loose paving slab and fell resulting in dh's head hitting the pavement and him sustaining a skull fracture. He never had any issues and is a normal healthy adult though mil still feels guilty 45 years on! I hope your ds is ok and that your dh is able to go easy on himself Thanks
