HH please baby fractured skull

I don’t think I’ve really processed it yet. DH slipped down the stairs carrying DS and I saw him land on his head.

DS is only 4 months old. He’s had a scan on his head and has two fractures and lots of swelling. They don’t think he has brain damage. We’re staying in the children’s hospital overnight for observation. They have to wake him up every hour. I’m so scared, I don’t think I’ve left fight or flight mode yet.

If this happened to any of you how was the recovery?

I dropped my brother when he was about the same age. He also fell on his head when he was 6 (out of a tree). He was fine and celebrates his 60th birthday next year!

I have a 4 month old and I hate the anxiety of going up/down stairs.

My DH mother dropped him from halfway down the stairs and on to his head as a baby, that was back in the days when in her own words 'you just picked them back up and got on with the housework' and DH seems ok even though he got dropped a long way and had no medical treatment.

Their nonchalance while telling the story always freaks me out though.

I hope everything turns out ok for you.

hope things are going ok for you OP.
Adding my story too - when my oldest DS was 6 months old he rolled off a changing table onto a hard floor at nursery. He had fractured his skull and also had swelling. Spent 48 hrs in hospital for observation. He was fine.
He's now 23 and is very fit and athletic and last year graduated with first class masters degree in computer science from Cambridge - so he seems to have come through OK.

Hope you are home soon x

Thankyou so much everyone for your stories. I can’t believe how resilient young children are.

DS needs to stay in for another night, just for more observations he’s still happy in himself which is good to see. He doesn’t even seem like he’s in pain.

I’ve swapped with DH for a few hours so I can get some sleep before coming back to do the overnight. Luckily we had some milk in the freezer.

Thanks again for everyone’s kind words. DH is okay too.

Sounds like he is going to be fine, good that they are being extra cautious through by keeping him in another night.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/11/2021 15:29

Pleased to hear that he's doing well, and that your DH is ok too.
Hopefully you'll be home soon!
Thanks

So happy to hear he has progressed positively and no issues. I missed a couple steps and fell onto a concrete sidewalk carrying my toddler son-gave him a black eye and broke his glasses and I had bruises and abrasions. Felt horrific guilt afterwards. Wishing you three well

Lovely to hear positive news! ((Hugs)) for you. 🌻

And so do I. There was no need for that link on this thread. I'm glad to hear that your DS is recovering @LightsS0bright.

Fantastic news OP I’ve been thinking of you since you started this thread. Hope you get him home soon & the awfulness starts to wear off Flowers

LightsS0bright · 07/11/2021 22:53

Thanks @Glassofshloer his heart rate has been a bit low tonight, he’s sleeping well though. They’ve readjusted his monitor to so that it beeps at a lower level so that they can tell if it’s just a bit low or if it gets very low.

Still, fingers crossed that we can go home tomorrow.

I have reported that post and encourage others to do the same. It is only a few clicks and a sentence or two.

How has he been overnight? I’ve been in hospital with DD a few times for various things & remember the monitor beep dread very well 😒 hope you both got some sleep Brew

How terrifying.

Your poor husband.

It can happen very easily.

I have slipped on the stairs a few time, not with a baby, but only because it was a fear of mine.

Especially if you are tired or distracted.

I really hope everything will be ok.
