Things you enjoy which are supposed to be terrible

I'm inspired by a thread about ""Nice" Things That Aren't Actually Nice" over on the AIBU board.

I'd love to know about things you (secretly or not-so-secretly) love which you're "supposed" to find dull, inconvenient, or just plain crap.

For me: the cheapest tinned vegetables, replacement bus services (nicer view sometimes!), Travelodges.

Channel 5 films

@FizzyPink, I had root canal treatment recently and I dozed off. The dentist had to keep waking me up as my mouth was inconveniently trying to close 😆

In a similar vein, I also nodded off while having a tattoo recently. I was hungover. Yes, I know, I should not have got hammered the night before a tattoo.

rubydoobydoo · 08/10/2021 19:16

MRI scans - I find them really relaxing!

waterlego · 08/10/2021 19:23

Like other posters, I also like general anaesthetic. Best sleep ever, and woke up feeling super relaxed and chilled out.

I like those really naff processed packets of pasta that you add to a saucepan of heated milk/water.

I like doing push ups, squats and lunges. I don’t think that’s very unusual but I do know a lot of people hate them.

I like washing up (but wouldn’t want to do it all the time).

I like admin. Give me a few hours sitting with my laptop to do my accounts etc and I’m in a happy place. (Spreadsheet joy)

TedImgoingmad · 08/10/2021 19:24

Melissa McCarthy comedies - the ones that got panned. Love her, will watch her in anything.

Going to the osteopath. I love having my bones crunched.

EverlastingSatisfaction · 08/10/2021 19:27

Having the heating on. I hate being too warm. It was a massive bone of contention with XH as he was always turning it up (DC do likewise now). I like my bedroom to be icy cold.

labazslovesliving · 08/10/2021 19:28

RicherThanYew · 08/10/2021 19:29

Needles at the dentist, absolutely love them. I'm dentist phobic and it's awful but those injections are fab. Me and my Dad used to compete to see who needed the most Grin (I held the lead with 5).

Mydogmylife · 08/10/2021 19:30
@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll Grin good stuff!

There's also...

Tablet
Macaroon
Empire biscuits
Pizza crunch...

Be prepared to gain at least 2 stone Grin
Haggis pie
Bran scone
Square sausage

Scottish delicacies!

Graphista · 08/10/2021 19:31

Children at weddings

Yes! I was raised on "Peter kay" style family weddings everyone went babies and kids up to great grandparents

Had loads of kids at mine and everyone had a great time

I tried angel delight again about a year ago, it's rubbish now they've taken all the sugar and chemicals out!

Ori3 · 08/10/2021 19:35

Going to bed at 8.30.

Zoom meetings because I can turn my camera off & don’t have to meet people face-to-face.

Dying my own hair.

Tweaking my finance spreadsheet (family budget.)

Budgeting in general. Love it. It’s my challenge.

Eating Nik Nak crisps

Shaving my vag

Sniv · 08/10/2021 19:35

I love seaside-style amusement arcades and funfairs, especially after dusk. The lights, music, repetitive jingles and shouts of stall holders. I love the smell of candy floss and fried onions. I love watching rides and demos on videogames. I love feeding a £1 into a machine and watching loads of 2ps clatter out, and then walking round with my cup full of change working out which prize I'm going to win from the pusher machines. I love playing really old video games with nice pixelly graphics or blocky 3D.

AgathaAllAlong · 08/10/2021 19:35

@puppymonkey love that you specified Armageddon (the movie) and didn't leave us wondering why you love the end of the world!

Greggs (especially the bakes)
Gap jeans
Weddings, the more kids at them the better
Preparing fancy dress costumes for children

Snowisfallinghere · 08/10/2021 19:35

Cadbury's Dairy Milk in big slabs. I live in Switzerland now and I would happily swap Lindt and other nice Swiss chocolate for a big ol' slab of Dairy Milk.

Children swearing - okay, not at people, but saying "oh shit!" when they drop something or stub their toe etc, I find that harmless and actually kind of endearing Grin

Covid lockdowns!

Nottheduchess · 08/10/2021 19:35

Being poked and prodded by doctor/dentist/ osteopath etc.
marmite (obvs)
Cleaning very dirty things, car, patio etc

HarebrightCedarmoon · 08/10/2021 19:36

Processed cheese. I like proper cheese too. Just any cheese.

Pot Noodle and Super Noodles. I don't know when I last had them, but I bloody love them.

Adventing · 08/10/2021 19:40

True Crime
Brown bananas
Staying in
Storms
Badly behaved children

smallandimperfectlyformed · 08/10/2021 19:40

@Graphista this was in the period of 2000-2004 so I don't remember massively. I worked in Bakers Oven for a while and we didn't do them so I don't think it was Greggs either. Don't remember Auld's at all! I absolutely loved empire biscuits and have no idea why they aren't sold down South.

Benjispruce4 · 08/10/2021 19:40

Married at First Sight
Working with primary school children
Housework

HarebrightCedarmoon · 08/10/2021 19:40

I really enjoyed my last general anaesthetic. What a nice sleep. Apart from being sick after, they always make me sick.

FizzyPink · 08/10/2021 19:42

Those really trashy channel 5 programs where a rich family and a poor family swap holidays or they follow families with lots and lots of children

HarebrightCedarmoon · 08/10/2021 19:42

I used to love Greggs vegetable pasties, when they used to have a samosa-like filling. Now they have a mild cheese sauce and are not the same at sll.
