Who do you think will be the next Bond?

I think a Jamie Dornan is a good shout, but it may be a relative unknown.

Ten years ago my money would have been on Idris Elba, but I think his optimum age has passed.

I’ve been thinking about this —too— —much— over the past 48 hours.

I think it’s going to be an unknown male actor of unknowable ethnicity and sexuality.

I’ll cash my chips when his name is announced 😇

@Laughsaminute

Cillian Murphy and Aiden Turner both Irish, so not them.

Has anyone mentioned Eddie Redmayne?

Eddie seems far too fragile to pull off a convincing Bond.

I think Michael Fassbender has potential but is probably now too old and IIRC has made remarks about never playing bond.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 23:40

Even if years weren’t against it, Bond is surely meant as pure entertainment. If Michael Fassbender became Bond we would be obliged to feel things.

I hope they fully embrace the modern world and make Bond non-binary.

Broccoli

Barbara Broccoli, who has the final say, says that Bond will always be male.

What's them being Irish got to do with it.

LowbrowVictoriana · 30/09/2021 08:36

🤢🤮

Bond is a big, tough action hero who has the ladies swooning at his feet; Eddie Redmayne looks like a 12 year old schoolboy.

Presumably because James Bond is quintessentially English. I think Cillian can do a pretty good English accent though.

Spindrifting · 30/09/2021 08:55

As several previous posters have said, Pierce Brosnan is from Navan, and Sean Connery is Scottish, so there’s a precedent for non-English actors playing Bond. I don’t think either Cillian Murphy or Aidan Turner would consider it,though. And I’d be surprised of CM considered it if approached.

I did watch a behind the scenes Bond programme recently, and was struck by how different Daniel Craig looked when he was first cast — floppy, non-Bond hair, much gentler and less muscular and macho-looking. I think he’s added a kind of ruggedness to the role now that might be difficult to dispense with entirely, but it’s very possible that whoever is cast will not initially seem to have that, but will work their way into it via training, hair, costuming etc.

It's about time they made it clear that the persona / identity James Bond comes with the job and 00 rank, rather than Bond being an actual person. They should have done this with the Casino Royale reboot, rather than trying to have us believe that it has been the same person from Dr No onwards - Bond would be an OAP if that were the case! Also opens up the casting a bit.

TitilatedOcelot · 30/09/2021 09:17

I mean change it to make it clear - obviously for Fleming Bond was an an actual person.

Sulusu · 30/09/2021 09:58

Christopher Lee was a cousin of Ian Fleming, he was also a spy. It's rumoured that James Bond was inspired by Christopher Lee's stories to Fleming. Lee is of course also the best Bond villain.

So when taking that into consideration which actors can channel the cool suaveness of Lee. Not many.

Henry Cavill yes, Cwijtel Ejiofor, definitely. But many mentioned here could not.

I thought it was a complete reboot as in, taking it right from the start but different stories. Bond gets his 007 status in Cadino Royale and we are introduced to MoneyPenny in later films (we see her backstory as in, how she gets desk duty) maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I thought.

Laurence Llewelyn Bowen

brokenbiscuitsx - ah, that makes sense! Watched Casino Royale but haven't been paying too much attention to it since!

The one just out has confused me a bit now though. Especially to who will be next Bond. I’m not giving any spoilers but hmmmm.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 03/10/2021 23:03

Ok what about another Aussie? Eg Liam hemsworth? He’s fit and has been laying low… I don’t think any controversies? He’s young and beautiful which helps !

MrsLCSofLichfield · 03/10/2021 23:15

Russell Brand.

Zwellers · 04/10/2021 00:14

Ben willbond

Gothichouse40 · 04/10/2021 00:23

Sorry but I would not be interested in a female James Bond or Jane Bond. What about Zac Efron? Anybody think he'd be good, if he could do the accent. I had quite fancied Iain Glen for the part too.

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 04/10/2021 06:47

Someone unthread said James Macavoy…? Yes! Fantastic actor, sexy and charismatic! Ok he’s not a beefcake like Craig (who I think has been excellent) but they don’t have to have a beef cake and I reckon JMcA has the ability/intensity to pull off the fights/stunts without looking like one. Plus he has charm and a twinkle in his eye. Love him.

Tellmesomethinggirl · 04/10/2021 07:40

Call me old-fashioned but I think there has to be an element of beef-cake Grin. Bond is an assassin after all, with a license to kill.

MerlinsButler · 04/10/2021 13:02

Taron Egerton who played Eggsy in Kingsman would be great I think. Young enough to do a few films too.

Nipitinthebudlight · 04/10/2021 18:31

Now this is an interesting question only Barbara Broccoli knows the answer to!

TulipVictory · 04/10/2021 18:32

Sam Heughan please !!
