Who do you think will be the next Bond?

I think a Jamie Dornan is a good shout, but it may be a relative unknown.

Ten years ago my money would have been on Idris Elba, but I think his optimum age has passed.

I also think Tom hardy would nail it and be very popular.

BrownCurlsAmberEyes · 29/09/2021 20:57

Sam Heughan, Aidan Turder or Regé-Jean Page (for the win)

Bluntness100 · 29/09/2021 21:00

Stephen graham as bond would turn it into a comedy, 😂😏

“ At first he feels like a bit of a flirt and there's a little bit of sexual tension, but really you kind of fall in love with the guy and you see that there's a real deep emotional side to him.”

From Sam Clafin’s wikipedia page. Sums up the character of Bond!

sakura06 · 29/09/2021 21:07

If it can't be Idris Elba then I love the suggestions of Dev Patel or Henry Golding!

Sam Claflin would be brilliant too!

jillandhersprite · 29/09/2021 21:10

need to see the film properly not just little clips, but at the moment it sounds like lashana lynch could be a good call...
introduced in this film and ticks both the poc and female angle...

Standrewsschool · 29/09/2021 21:21

In the article above, it says they tend to choose up and coming stars, rather than established ones.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 29/09/2021 21:23

I think they will go for a black Bond next time

DrWhoNowww · 29/09/2021 21:27

I don’t think the franchise is ready for a female Bond. It’s too obviously a point scoring attempt now (plus Jodie Whittaker has bloody ruined Dr Who so let’s not risk Bond as well).

Not saying that Bond doesn’t need a good strong female character (remember when Judi Dench was M?) but I don’t think they need to be the title character - maybe an actual female villain rather than ones that are just bad because they’ve got daddy issues?

SleepingStandingUp · 29/09/2021 21:36

Ooh I'd pay to see Aiden Turner as Bond

Darklane · 29/09/2021 21:40

What this thread shows is what different tastes we have in what makes an attractive man Grin
I hate Daniel Craig as Bond, no sense of humour & too thuggish.
For me the best was Timothy Dalton.
I don’t really see how Bond can be a person of colour, he was from an aristocratic Scottish family.

You could start a new chapter with his son. The way he shagged around, I bet he's got a few.

The names Bond. Fabian Bond. 007.5

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 29/09/2021 21:46

@Darklane I thought he wasn't blood related to that family?

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 21:46

Grin I can assure you the genes of ‘aristocratic’ Scottish families are well and truly spread across the Caribbean islands …

Anyway, as I mentioned above, it’s going to be John David Washington.

AnotherEmma · 29/09/2021 22:03

Didn't stop them using a diverse cast in Bridgerton, did it? They have black aristocrats.

A black Bond does seem unlikely though, based on what everyone's saying about the Chinese market.

I have to say, I think Henry Golding could be good, but then the opinion of us Mumsnetters is hardly going swing it if they have a huge Chinese audience to consider.

If it must be another white man then please please let it be Richard Madden, I don't care if he's short! I still would Grin

SmellyOldOwls · 29/09/2021 22:06

@Patapouf

I've given it some more thought this evening and I've decided I approve of the following suggestions: Sam H from Outlander Aiden Turner Robert Sheehan

Definite no to the Bridgerton guy because he's way way too short.
Cillian Murphy has nice eyes but he's far too old.
Jamie Dornan doesn't seem right for the role at all.

I propose Sam Claflin.

Sam Claflin is a good shout. Cillian Murphy would be better as a Bond villain.
SleepingStandingUp · 29/09/2021 22:14

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 22:20

As I remember it, Bridgerton was very specifically not ‘colourblind’. They posited a change in the racial culture of the country consequent upon the royal marriage.

brokenbiscuitsx · 29/09/2021 22:20

I would love Henry Cavill to play Bond. He has the looks and the charisma (just watch The Witcher) I am sure though whoever they choose will be perfect. Daniel got so much stuck at first (the media were awful!) and now he is, in my opinion, one of the best Bonds.

They need to make more female characters like Vesper too.

CGI makes cars explode, and building explode it can conceal tattoos too
Richard Madden for me

Darklane · 29/09/2021 22:33

Fleming’s inspiration

felulageller · 29/09/2021 22:42

I think Jack Lowden fits the bill- Scottish, 31, over 6ft and not very well known.

Laughsaminute · 29/09/2021 23:16

Cillian Murphy and Aiden Turner both Irish, so not them.

Has anyone mentioned Eddie Redmayne?
